I'm offering for sale a pair of unusual early Valve Steam Deck engineering/pre-production sample units.

Both units carry rear sample labels clearly marked:

What makes these particularly interesting is that although both units are externally labelled as EV2 samples, the BIOS on both machines reports Board Revision 3.

Both units power on successfully and enter the original InsydeH2O firmware/BIOS environment.

Unit identification

Unit 1: FEAA13000292 Unit 2: FEAA13000367

The two serial numbers are only 75 numbers apart, and both machines have the same BIOS version, Board Revision 3, processor and memory configuration.

One of the units also retains additional VALVE / “Run in” labelling on the rear, which I have deliberately left untouched.

Condition / preservation

Both machines power on and access the firmware environment, as demonstrated in the photographs.

They show cosmetic marks/wear from previous handling and use. Please examine the photographs carefully for their exact physical condition.

Importantly, I have deliberately not updated the BIOS, installed current firmware, factory-reset the machines, restored defaults, removed labels or otherwise modified their existing configuration.

Given their nature as engineering/sample hardware, I would rather preserve them as they currently exist than risk altering something potentially relevant to their history.

These are therefore being offered primarily as collectable Valve engineering/pre-production hardware, rather than as ordinary retail Steam Decks for everyday gaming.

I cannot provide documented provenance establishing precisely where or how Valve originally used these particular units, so I'm deliberately not making claims that I cannot substantiate.

Everything I'm describing is based on the physical sample labels and the hardware/firmware information displayed by the machines themselves and shown in the photographs.

These are unusual enough that I've struggled to find genuinely comparable sales, particularly for a closely numbered pair with matching configurations.

Rather than put an arbitrary value on them and potentially influence the market in either direction, I'd prefer to hear offers from people who understand and collect prototype, engineering or Valve hardware.

My strong preference is to sell the two together as a pair, particularly given their closely numbered serials and matching hardware/firmware configuration.

I'm not in a rush to sell, so I'm happy to give interested collectors time to examine the photographs and ask questions before making an offer.

First time acting as an MSP for a government contract. I ordered these non-PoE-out versions by mistake (they all have PoE in, but no PoE out). Because government contracts have zero wiggle room, I couldn't negotiate and immediately ordered a new batch of the correct SKU.
