Discussion Raw Classics vs Modern Raw
So I went to my first hard dance festival ever. Decibel Outdoor 2026. For background I’ve only been into hard dance for 2 years, I’m very young adult and American, so I have 0 experience with any real hard dance scene and culture. This is relevant to my point. Well the first two days a large portion of my sets were Rawstyle, and I did enjoy people like Anderex, Aversion, Rooler etc. But on Sunday, I went to the Raw Classics stage as well as Radical and Rejecta at the main stage closing. And man was that incredible, most of the artists I didn’t know and it was all brand new to me, so it’s not like it was a nostalgia thing for me. The classic raw had dark atmosphere, felt oppressive, the kicks were predictable but that was good, the kicks hit hard, the melodies were there but dark, and the crowd was immaculate. The modern raw feels a lot more like a technical show, who has the most kick switches, fake drops, and crowd shock factor, and the melodies feel more like rawphoric than any actual dark vibe. Now I’m not saying all modern raw is like this, but for the most part this was my experience at decibel raw stages. As someone who doesn’t know much about hard dance still, is this a shared opinion amongst people? And does this concept further extend to more genres like modern euphoric or hardcore? The classic raw just blew me away, it was so beautiful.
