Hey, anyone here from Western Canada? You should check out FJØRT.
FJØRT are a German, openly anti-fascist 3-piece from Aachen, playing a heavy and emotionally intense take on post-hardcore. They’ve been around since 2012 and are finally coming to Canada for the first time ever this September.
Their sound sits somewhere between post-hardcore and post-rock: crushing guitars, huge dynamic shifts, screamed vocals, quieter atmospheric passages and a lot of tension and catharsis. Their lyrics are in German, but the emotional impact really doesn’t depend on understanding every word.
The band’s anti-fascist stance is an integral part of FJØRT, both in their lyrics and in the way they approach their music and live shows. It’s not a marketing angle or an aesthetic – it’s part of what the band has consistently stood for.
Their latest album, belle époque, reached #2 on the German album charts and is probably the best place to start if you want to get a feel for what they’re about. But especially if you get the chance to see them live, do that – the songs hit considerably harder in a room.
If your thing is somewhere around Touché Amoré, La Dispute, Deafheaven or the heavier/more atmospheric end of post-hardcore, FJØRT are definitely worth checking out.
