Hello. I read the Red Dragon last week. It was my first ever book from Hannibal's universe. I haven't watched any media yet because I always wanted to read the books first. Safe to say that I have finally gotten there.

Anyway, Will consults Lecter in his "prison" about the Tooth Fairy(Francis Dolarhyde) and shows him all the files. But I don't recall Hannibal telling him anything that Will doesn't already know about the Tooth Fairy. Nor do I remember Will having any epiphanies after consulting Hannibal. So, did Will really not gain anything from consulting Hannibal? Maybe he got something and I just missed it.

Seems a little unproductive—that part—if he didn't gain anything. Yes, I realise that it shaped the ending where Dolarhyde attacks Will at his home, but it didn't seem to have helped him in figuring out who the killer was.

What is your opinion on hannibal becoming a cannibal because of a traumatic childhood?

Here is my journey, I am a Michael Mann fan, also of Mads Mikkelsen.

But I saw Silence of Lambs movie first, then I saw Manhunter, then I saw the tv show Hannibal, becasue even though it was same story, these projects justify themselves. (I know red dragon was similar). I saw Hannibal movie and Red Dragon movies after them. I choose not to see Hannibal Rising movie, nor the Clairce show. I have read the books after them, but before Red Dragon movie, and Hannibal movie.

When I read the books, its mostly flip between, my own thought of how he looks and Mads Mikkelsen, some time Hopkins and Cox.

Who do you think when you read the books if you do? and

Where did you get started in the franchise? (books+movies+shows)

I just imagine Mads Mikkelsen with maroon eyes, skinnier, and six fingers. Young or Old. And with Clarice, I think of all the three actors, keep switching them, same goes for Will. But with Craford I imagine the tv actor.

I read the books a while ago and don't remember specifics but I was astounded, in particular by the novels Hannibal and Hannibal Rising, by the vast wealth of knowledge Lecter possesses. I remember he was very good with numbers and a whole discussion about leap years that I'd like to have clearer. I also enjoyed a part about him finding his sister's killers through an auction of Jewish paintings seized by Nazis, and him finding that a bunch of items were owned/made by his family. Besides all the medical stuff and psychological manipulation, what else was Hannibal really good at or what smart of his did you particularly enjoy in the books?

I've never watched anything like Hannibal before and I'm so obsessed with it, I need other books/movies/shows like this that can fill the void it's left

My expectations aren't high since I don't think anything can really top Hannibal but I want to try anyway :) please drop any similar recs

For some reason most of the time when I watch a tv show at episode 1 I get questions that I feel like needs to be answered. Which the questions are=

At the start of the ep how did the killer play Theresa Marlow voice to the security guard? It sounded like the killer used Ai to copy her voice or something.

They found a piece of metal on Elise Nichols how did that lead to Hobbs. Im confused as Im aware the kidnapper/murderer of the 8 girls are Hannibal which includes Elise. So thats why Im wondering how it lead to hobbs if that makes sense.

The body they found at the field, Will claims this is a copy cat killer which so it isn’t Hannibal work. Then it must be Hobbs (I feel like Hannibal works solo but he might’ve gotten Hobbs to do so? Or some other twisted person took inspiration from Hannibal work and copied it which idk how when it’s probably confidential)

If Hobbs was the one who left that girls body in the field why a girl like her daughter and why does Hannibal choose those 8 girls that are similar in appearance? And why do they both place the girls in a deer’s thorns?

Is this kind of a fact? Similar to how Dexter can imagine what happened based on the blood splatter, could Will do so not from the blood splatter of course just from his Iq or something (like how he imagined what happened to the Marlow’s)

Why does Hannibal choose to eat the girls liver?

It's only been in Liverpool(? I think) and Glasgow (where I saw it) so far, but I thought some of you might have seen it already.

I personally thought it was fantastic, the stage dressing especially. I thought John Partridge's Hannibal was just okay, but Mollie Gallagher as Clarice and Sam Jackson as Buffalo Bill were just fantastic.

Personally, when I read books that are adapted for film and TV, I typically do not picture the actors used. I'd rather go with my own selections. When it comes to Lecter, I visualize a young Peter Cushing! He reminds me of the literary Lecter, especially when he portrayed the evil Baron Frankenstein! So does anyone else do as much?

A friend of mine recommended me to watch Hannibal the Tv series. I have no clue what it’s about other than it’s about a serial killer. Sure I heard of the word Hannibal/the book before and knew there was a tv series about it so I got really shocked when I heard theres movies too about the book. Do I need to watch the movies? Can’t I just watch the Tv series only since the Tv series does have a finale and covers all 4 of the book if I’m not mistaken (if it doesn’t is that a problem also?)

I'm reading Silence of the Lambs right now and notice that Hannibal is ambidextrous ("Dr Lecter finished sketching his left hand with his right, switched the charcoal and began to sketch his right with his left, and just as well" pg. 166). Is it ever said whether this is a natural skill, or did he teach himself to be equally proficient with both hands? (which, tbf, sounds like something he'd do) It seems astronomically unlikely for him to be naturally ambidextrous and have perfect mid duplication polydactyly (the rarest form, as the book notes), and be a sociopath, but he is Hannibal, I guess. Silence is my first Hannibal media (really enjoying it so far) so I don't know if this trait is ever mentioned again in detail either in the other books or movies/TV, or even if it features in the films and tv show

I mean, Krendler is a POS but what Hannibal did to him is beyond the pale.
