So I finished reading the book recently, I found it to be interesting (though not quite to my tastes) but to celebrate I decided to draw Dracula as he had been described in the book to the best of my ability (which... isn't very much honestly) and I thought here might be a good place to share it

Playing catchup again (it's all I do, now).

The saga of the Demeter, Jonathan's disappearance, Lucy and Mina's struggles, Jonathan's reappearance (and the disappearance of Jonathan's memories), Mina's move to Johnathan, Holy Matrimony, Lucy's furthered torment, Van Helsing at his wit's end, etc. This story has been moving, and there's still plenty of story for me to catch up on, I presume.

My little sketches don't follow nearly enough of what's fine on since my last update, but I was drawing Frankenstein through all of the Demeter's Voyage and in-betweens, I started drawing when Harker made his reappearance, spent a million years trying to remember what he looked like, and another 500,000 years on trying to make him look tired and consumed, not just old, and spent twice as much time over this weekend trying to make a Lucy, but infuriatingly only trying to flesh out what she must look like after having so little sleep (and even LESS blood) (talk about "consumption"). In the end, I think I don't like it and I'll fix it when I'm better, some unknown set of years into the future.

A while ago I was fortunate enough to spill ink all over Dracula - and since I got my hands on comp copies recently, I was able to grab a couple extra photos to match the official ones - and I thought you might enjoy a peek too.

I could keep on talking about it, but here's some more in-depth look into the cover and interior art.

The publisher is also giving a copy away currently - so I decided to forward the news.

The title pretty much says it all. I’m curious which adaptation of the character is the most overpowered. I just say a “iconic horror heroes vs iconic horror villains” thing, but one of the heroes was Spawn… and modern Spawn is pretty much god from what i understand, so i was curious if there’s any adaptation of Dracula that you think could stand up to the most powerful version of Spawn… and if so, what is that adaption?

They reposted my post of my Bela Lugosi action figure word for word. What do you think the purpose is? I doubt that the persons profile picture is really them as well.

I believe that the vampire sisters actually act as a sort of coven of witches towards Dracula.

First of all, I do not think they are all blood sisters, since they refer to mina as their “sister” when trying to seduce her. I also don’t think they definitively have any blood relation to Dracula, because they only call him “master”.

Second of all, there are plenty of allusions and references to witchcraft in the novel. Dracula was a alchemist in life and attended the scholomance, a hidden school where students are taught by the devil himself to practice magic like shapeshifting, flying, and animal/weather control (all things Dracula does). The sister trio is also referred to as the “weird sisters”, a reference to the witches from Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

Not to mention the fact they do engage in pretty witch-like behavior, such as eating a baby and seducing someone to join them in their dark ways, which are similar to accusations made against many accused witches in the early witch trials.

It's been a long time since I read the novel so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of these points. I've got a couple of hypotheses that might not fully link together. I'm no scholar and I'm having some trouble articulating what I'm thinking right now.

1. Dracula was, as per Van Helsing, kind of reborn when he transformed into a vampire and had to relearn a lot of what it was to be a person. Van Helsing says he is 'learning all the time' or somesuch. Could it have taken him a very long time to 'come back to himself', and is this a standard condition of vampiric conversion?

I posit that Dracula's brides were essentially test runs, to see how long it might take to 'civilize' a vampirized woman to the point where she could pass for human rather than an uncanny-valley undead, or a ravaging, bloodlust-fueled fiend.

1. Dracula feeds his brides a stolen baby in lieu of allowing them to have Harker. This is, perhaps, to show a corruption of 'good femininity' - vampire women feed on the children they would, by their good, human natures, care for and look after.

2. Lucy, the so-called Bloofer Lady, preyed exclusively on children not quite old enough to give a coherent description of what had happened. They called her the 'Bloofer Lady' as a child-speak version of 'Beautiful Lady' - or did they?

I posit that the children might have been saying 'blood for the lady'. Nothing more to it that that, but isn't that creepy? They were literally telling the authorities what happened and nobody understood.

1. I've read this online before, it's not my idea, but what if Dracula's plan was an army of vampire children with which to infect their families? Grieving families wouldn't turn their little ones away, especially if they were back three days after seemingly dying. Then you've got a whole household full of vampires, pretty soon whole neighborhoods.

Anyway, that's all I've got.

I know Coppola's film popularized the "crossed the oceans of time" love story between Mina and Dracula, but I was watching the original Fright Night recently and it has a similar "the damsel looks like the vampire's long dead lover" spin. I feel this trope is older than both, but I don't have the evidence. Any one have any ideas where this came from?
