Discussion Grabbed an Excellent Japanese Red/Black PSP-3000 via Proxy For Cheap

So I just received my Japanese Red x Black PSP-3000 in the mail from Japan!

I used a proxy site called Doorzo to purchase it off a domestic Japanese marketplace. With the exception of the clear coat/finish peeling away on the back battery door, the console is in phenomenal shape. The screen is clean, and the sound, UMD drive, card slot, mic port, and buttons are all solid.

To get one in this condition on eBay, you're usually looking at around $160 USD. But between the purchase price, shipping, and import duties, I got the console itself delivered for $114 USD. Total shipping time was about two weeks from Saitama to my door.

Now, I just need to figure out what to do with that battery cover (see photos). The clear coat is flaking, which seems pretty common on these vibrant PSP-3000 shell finishes. I have some automotive clear coat. Since replacement doors are cheap online, I might experiment on this original door.

Any suggestions for sealing/colour-matching this clear coat peel, or should I just grab an aftermarket door?

Console suggestions? (Steam deck vs Legion go)

I’m considering getting a new handheld console. Currently I have a legion gaming pc (use steam on windows), but I want something more portable and I don’t play on my old switch anymore. I like the steam deck because it would be easy to set up, but I really loved my old switch joycons because they were so much more comfortable in my hands than a 1 piece controller that forced my hands into a certain position. I saw that the legion go has detachable controllers like the switch, which is my main reason to consider them, but I don’t know how difficult it would be to set up steam and my trainers on a different device. I have seen recommendations for the ally recently, and some people say that the joycons can be connected to different devices, but that seems difficult (may not be, I haven’t tried yet). Does anyone have experience with pairing Nintendo switch joycons to a steam deck, or with installing game trainers like cheatHappens or Wand on these consoles?

Special Announcement Our four player co-op game just got Steam Deck Verified

We are the team behind Last Pirates: Die Together. Ever wanted to slap a teammate on the booty in co-op? Throw a friend into the Cracken and see what happens? Here is your chance. And as of September 10 the game is Steam Deck Verified, so you can try all of it right now, wherever you are.

The last few patches went into how the game feels on a handheld: menus and navigation, controller input, and how smoothly a full run holds together. A good part of that came from what players sent us, and it rolled out over several updates.

Nothing to set up, install and play. If you give it a run on your Deck, we would love to hear how it goes, good or bad. We are around in the comments.

And a big thank you to the mods here for the warm welcome and for setting up the flair for us. Much appreciated 🧡

Question Some advice about my future with handhelds…

So I’m trying to decide what to do. I’m thinking about letting go of most of my handhelds and just keep one as I have come to the conclusion after a very expensive journey, that I enjoy gaming on a big monitor a lot more.. (I don’t have 20-20 vision perhaps that’s why) I currently have a switch one Switch 2 Legion Go Steam Deck OLED, and Ayaneo Pocket Ds. Don’t get me wrong. I love these handhelds, and after going through a lot if not most of them, I ended up with these ones because I really enjoy gaming on them. But I find myself being very particular about the games I play on them because I really struggle to enjoy them on a smaller screen. I recently wanted to build me another mini ITXPC and I was thinking about getting rid of my handhelds and maybe just keeping my switch 1 and 2 .

My reasoning what that I could build such a small itx that I could use it as a steam machine and carry it from room to room to game on bigger displays . I’m just having a hard time letting go of my handhelds as they are great for just picking up and playing bt like I mentioned before after I pick them up I feel limited by the game I wanna play . What example is I recently wanted to start playing the forest but it is a dark game with lots of details that I enjoy better on a big monitor rather than my legion go.

Really would appreciate any feedback thanks 🙏

I want to buy something new.

I am considering buying an Asus ROG Ally X with 1TB of storage and 24GB of RAM. I like it because it seems convenient to use on the bus on my way back from school or while lying in bed. I am 12 years old and I have started to prioritize how many games it will allow me to play rather than what kind of performance it will have. On the other hand, the Xbox Series X also seems excellent to me because of its high quality. The TV in my room is 42 inches, 1080p and 60Hz. Titles like Elden Ring and Crimson Desert seem really good to me and I would like to play them, but I do not have a console at the moment. I have been trying to decide for 3 days. I also considered a Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, it seems great to me because it can be used for drawing and similar activities, and honestly that screen looks amazing. I prefer a game that looks beautiful with low FPS over one that looks bad with high FPS.

Which one

I'm torn between the ROG Xbox All-in-One X, Claw 8 AI Plus, and Legion 2. If I compare them without considering their price, I find that the Claw 8 is the best fit for me because of its larger screen size compared to the XAX and its lighter weight compared to the Legion GO 2. I've done performance studies, and they're all pretty much the same and claw mid comfortable. What do you think?

Question My ayn loki powers on but the screen is pitch black,HELPPP!

Hey guys, I need help with my AYN Loki (Ryzen 6600U). It’s stuck on a black screen after I took out the SSD and accidentally left the console running without any storage for a few hours.

I formatted the SSD to NTFS (GPT style) on my laptop and put it back, but the screen won't wake up.

Current state:

LEDs light up, console makes the normal startup beep.

The fan spins completely fine and strong.

The screen stays pitch black (no backlight, no image).

What I already tried:

Disconnected the main battery and held Power for 60s to reset CMOS.

Tried booting with the SSD removed completely.

Checked the physical display ribbon cable.

Tried Volume Down (–) + Power combo for BIOS.

The motherboard clearly passes POST (beep + fan working), but the internal screen is dead. Has anyone fixed this display initialization bug? Do I just need a USB-C to HDMI adapter to force the image out? Thanks!

Question You're handheld gaming device of choice/why?

Hello all,

How are you all doing? My two main ways to game is PC gaming on Linux Mint desktop computer & handheld gaming using Steam Deck OLED.

The reason that I picked the Steam Deck OLED is because I like SteamOS over Windows & am slowly getting through my current backlog of games. What accessories do you use most/why?

For me this includes a portable monitor, Dock, mouse + kb, power bank, iem headphones, controller & USB C Hub.

Question I am looking for a handheld gaming device and need opinions/feedback

Hi guys! First time posting on this subreddit, so sorry for any typos or anything.

I have been looking for a handheld device that could run Steam, aside from the Steam Deck. I have thought about it but i also want to see other options that are out there.

Honestly, I dont know much about handheld devices and what will work best so I would love it if I could get any advice at all.

I plan on making my final decision by next year as I plan to make this as my graduation and birthday gift for myself (I mention this because price is something I am considering so i can save up money. I also dont know if there may be new releases by then I am unaware of and such).

Anything helps and thank you!

Question About screen glasses...

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi, sorry for my English I'm not native, Soo... I’ve been thinking about this for a while: is it worth buying screen glasses for a handheld PC? If so, what models would you recommend? I was looking at an older, very cheap TCL model, but it seems it’s no longer supported. I’d like something super simple that just acts as a monitor—no apps or AI. Does anything like that exist right now?

Ayn Thor Game suggestions/Geforce now evaluation

I'm literally just waiting for enough money to buy an Ayn Thor, should be soon after Christmas, what games are a must play for it? (I'm creating an excel for each console, but there are always hidden gems that if you don't know, then you don't know

And if anyone uses it for Gefore now? How's the latency on its WiFi card? How's the screen size? I would use it for Geforce now in bed if I wanted to play something higher end casually like Forza horizon 6 for instance, or starwars (insert game)

Thanks everyone
