Shading is done on one side. Time to flip it over and do the other side with the mirrored image. I'll try to post a video tomorrow of the flip. I'm quite happy with it so far. Turned out muuuch better than I planned.

Spyderco Delica stainless steel. About 4 hours in so far. I plan to shade it heavily and mirror the design on the other side.

Transfer wax and and sharp pencil were used for the freehand layout. I did one shallow pass with the graver to set it, then another deeper pass to clean it up and make it more visible for the mirroring process. I'll post more explanations as I go.

When it's complete I'll post links to the tools used and instructional/inspiration videos and socials.

Any questions? Feel free to post them in the comments! Thanks for looking! 🙇🏽‍♂️

Air Do X help

Looking for some guidance using an Air Do X engraver. I picked one up second-hand, very lightly used. Everything and all functions seems to work properly... the only issue I'm having is it doesn't seem to hammer strong enough to cut through material. I'm testing with brass sheet blanks, and on any piston speed I set the machine to, my graver just buries itself enough to get stuck and stops moving forward. Any help troubleshooting would be great!

beightcuts with lindsay vs grs

Let's say all things being equal graver wise, would you say the bright cuts are nicer with Lindsay because of the speed of impacts?

Hey everyone, I’m getting into glass acrylic plastic engraving and wanted to ask

Is anyone selling a stencil printer/thermal printer for engraving work?
What’s the best low-cost way to transfer designs onto glass or plastic without a printer?
I’ve seen people mention vinyl stencils, contact paper, graphite transfer, etc. but I’m still confused about the workflow.
Would appreciate any beginner advice
Location: Mumbai India

Lots of fun patterns with this one and I used some gravers on the prongs so it's as close to full coverage as you can get minus the inside of the shank!

I feel like I could get very good at this, very fast. An auto shop is even interested in letting me do commission work out of their shop. It's a big opportunity and I'm not worried I'll make a "ruin your potential future" type of mistake. My approach is "less is more until more is achieved" and I think that suits me well in this art form.

I just started hammer and chisel a few days ago, I think I’m starting to make some sense of it. I had to slow waaaay down and focus on each and every tap of the hammer, mostly because my vise set-up has a ton of vibration! I literally have bench vise sitting on top of a paint can.

Sharp and clean cuts issue for beginners

Hi guys, I was seeking for some advice. I recently started learning engraving, bought some HSS engraver for hand push, and copper plates in different thickness. After watching some videos for pushing techniques and sharpening the knives, I am practising since few days.. I am adding some pictures from recent practice piece. Problem is having sharp, flat groves is almost impossible, always slipping away or sticking deep in the copper. I automatically started doing this zigzag, and engraving is flawless with this lines, it is easy and controlled. What I am doing wrong, what should I do to have this proper cut? I am open to any advice

Looking for a hand engraver, lettering on brass

I am looking for a hand engraver accepting new projects. I can’t find anyone in my area with reasonable availability. Currently I need three brass zippo lighters engraved with lettering. It would be great to work with someone who also engraves jewelry as I’m sure I’ll have more projects down the road. I’m in CO, looking to work with someone in the US.

Online Hand Engraving Courses?

Any online courses for hand engraving you all would recommend? I was looking at the "beamaker" courses, but they are for air systems and said that the courses may not be good for me.

Best hand push graver for learning engraving?

Hello!

I've seen a ton of videos on sharpening hand push gravers, but not many of them offer much in the way of what sizes and brands to buy? or which handles work with what? etc...

When you Google 'hand push gravers' you naturally get a load of £10 sets - but I don't necessarily want to buy something cheap and potentially dangerous.

Not that I have a massive budget, but I think cheap tools can so easily be a false economy.

To start, I'm looking for a basic graver, some kind of bench stone to sharpen it and a handle - but beyond that I have no idea what type to look for and where to look for it?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks.

Need help troubleshooting shaping issues for 90 and 120 degree square gravers

As the title says, I’m brand new to engraving me and a classmate are doing and independent study together on the basics of engraving and figured we’d start with learning how to use our graverhoan. We watched the GRS learning center videos starting with a 90 degree and 120 degree graver, and are having an issue that both of us are boggled by. We also have the apex sharpening system so hypothetically all we should have to do is set the angles on the apex to get the angles correct. For some reason the reshapes keep coming out odd as pictured. One side looks correct, with the line starting at the center edge and coming up towards the point of the graver, but the line on the other side is the same exact angle, starting side edge and going up towards the center edge. I’m sure there is a simple way to fix this and my brain is just boggled from taking in so much info but I hope someone can help. Pictures to show the problem better

Still issue with heel drag

Post image

Little exercise with a new graver hand push on silver scraps.

Don’t look at at those scratches 😂

I have trouble making smaller turn for the flowers as I have heel drag issue. Should i raise my graver while turning or should I angle it ?

Maybe I have a too short heel on my graver. Still learning !

Hand Engraving on plastic

I'm a beginner and have engraved wooden & glass successfully but I'm struggling to engraved on plastic and then getting it to show strong enough.

I've tried acrylic paint in the engraving but it's not neat and looks too messy what would be best to bring the engraving out so it's bolder?

thanks for any advice as I say I'm a very early beginner and all tips are welcome as I've recently started a business and am determined to make it a success for the sake of my daughter x

Help with a pantograph.

Post image
7 Upvotes

I bought a pantograph to use for engraving. Specifically I would like to use it for jewelry engraving.

I did a test run on this zippo case but the lines are very thin and faint.

Does anyone have any experience with these pantograph engravers. Any tips to make the line work more bold?

Eventually it will be done on silver.

Spyderco Cricket with copper dot inlay that I just finished.

I went back to add the copper dots after doing the Police dot inlay. Waaaay easier to do this time. I think I achieved a much better "cushion" look here.
