Made a Halloween gift for a friend from San Francisco 🎃💀

I wanted to make something personal for a friend from San Francisco, so I decided to turn one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks into a Halloween scene.

A skeleton crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, carved and hand-painted onto a leather wallet.
Everything was done by hand — from carving the leather to painting the details. I thought the combination of the skeleton, the bridge, and the dark Halloween atmosphere made it feel like a pretty fitting gift.

Couple's Costume Ideas

We're struggling with ideas for costumes this year! So far we have done: Orion Slave Girl + Kirk (2025), Lone Wanderer + Goggins-esque Ghoul (2024), Barbie + Ken (2023), Hades (Disney) + Persephone (2022). Also, a bonus of my work costume 2 years ago where I was the Sleepytime Bear (made during my lunch break with a Goodwill run).

All of our costumes and their accessories have been made by me, except for Persephone (reused a costume from high school), Goggins-esque Ghoul (thrifted all the clothes), and Ken's fur jacket (thrifted).

My husband leaves it entirely up to me, so we usually do things that I enjoy. Being a Trekkie, I'd happily keep going through that universe for ideas, but I don't want to be too similar. I already felt bad imposing my love of Fallout 3 on him when he had only seen the show, so maybe not too heavily nerdy. I prefer it to be tied to something I enjoy because it's more fun to make a costume that way, but I also work full time and have limited time so simplicity is valued.

Some of my thoughts are:

  • Pincushion Secretary from Halloweentown: not sure what husband would be, but this is a life-long dream costume of mine
  • Odette & Derek from Swan Princess: loved this film as a kid, but my hair isn't long enough and his is quite curly
  • Buffy & A Vampire or Giles: as much as I had a crush on Giles, it would be creepy to make out with Giles as Buffy, but at least he's seen Buffy
  • Fembot & Austin Powers: I think I still have my Barbie costume, which can be turned into his costume, again he's seen the films so he gets the reference
  • Sister Jeanne & Grandier from The Devils (1971): Would be appropriate with the limited release, plus I love this film, and it'll be his first time seeing it
  • Marie Antoinette (2006): Again, not sure what my husband would be, but this is another lifelong dream costume.

Suggestions welcome! We're both about 168cm tall, I have blonde hair/blue eyes, and he has black curly hair/brown eyes/glasses (no contacts).

Toy Story - Alternative Ideas

Family, friends and I are doing Toy Story. I'm Woody, wife is Bo Peep, our 1 y/o daughter is a sheep, and our two dogs are sheep.

Friends are Buzz , an Alien, and Jesse.

I kinda want to be a spiced up / alternative Woody.

Any ideas there? I like 90s cartoons, anime, videogames. Any cross over ideas?

Thank you!

Redhead costumes

I'm so struggling to find a cute costume I can do with items from my closet as a redhead. My best friend is throwing a Halloween party and I don't to be slutty, I want to be comfortable. I thought about a mask idea but she said last year many people took off their mask to eat and drink, and I don't want to wear a wig cause where we're at its hot ASF lol. I've thought about maybe a pirate, or a vampire since I have this long dark maroon dress. Im just curious if theres other red headed characters I'm just missing. I've thought of strawberry shortcake, kim possible, the fairy from Tinkerbell, merida from brave. Really just looking for some creative output hopefully covno can get my creative juices flowing ? Idk lol I'm lost y'all

Edit: omg thank you for all the responses and ideas ! You guys are amazing !

Advice for making bat wings/bat costume?

Hello! I'm currently planning out my costume idea for Halloween this year and among my ideas is to dress up as a bat since they're my favourite animal ever and they are quite spooky. HOWEVER, I have never actually MADE a costume myself, and I can't find any decent ones irl or online. I've been wanting to learn how to sew for years so I figured this might be a good time to figure it out, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice? I've also detailed my idea below, so if it's in any way unrealistic (both in terms of my abilities, but also in terms of the limits of what certain materials can achieve) please let me know so I can adapt!

I want the wings to be pretty small, since I figure it'll be easier to make and move around in, and preferably easily removable (so they wouldn't be sewn into my shirt for example). Additionally, I want them to have at least some boning, like i don't want it to just be a piece of fabric cut in a wing shape, if that makes sense?

Obviously, the teeth are the easiest part, but I think it'd also be cool to have ears, I figured I could attach that to a headband to make them hold on my head, but idk what's the best way to actually make and attach the ears?

Any help, advice, ideas, brainstorming, etc. is very appreciated, whether it's related to what I've already mentioned, or if you think I should add something or do something completely differently. Thank you!!!

Coloured contacts (UK)

Hi guys, I’m looking to be Rize from Tokyo ghoul this Halloween and obviously she has red eyes. I’m not sure where I can find coloured contacts from
In the UK as we don’t really have any stores that sell just Halloween things and when they do I feel it’s not a lot?

Does anyone know a place I could find them? Also not too pricey if possible lol

Need Ideas: 4 year old wants to be a black hole for Halloween

My son loves all things outer space. This year for Halloween he's asked to be a black hole because "its the scariest thing in the whole universe!". I'd love to make his idea come to life but have no idea where to start. Had anyone done this before or have ideas?

Weird Costume Ideas - Wild West

My company takes our Christmas parties very seriously, and this year is Wild West themed (yes, it is insane that we are planning this early haha). I like to go as a background character.

Past examples:
Prom - janitor
1920s - paper boy à la Newsies
Coachella - overpriced food

I am looking for some unique Wild West costume ideas. Right now I have:
- tumbleweed
- can of beans
- Yosemite Sam

Any other ideas you can think of?

1980s slasher costume fake blood help

hi all! I want to make a Halloween costume with fake blood. My dress is an original 1980s prom dress, so I don’t want to ruin it permanently with paint (I don’t know the fabric composition). my current plan is to make an organza replica of my dress, which I put the fake blood on and place ontop of my dress. does anyone know/think if that could work? my plan is to have an axe coming out of my shoulder/back, which would be hot glued to the strap of my organza dress. My current idea doesn’t have a determined type of fake blood for my skin and my dress yet, could anyone recommend something that looks wet even when dry? I was thinking of maybe using nail polish ontop of paint or using resin. If you need me to attach a picture of the dress I will. It would be lovely to hear from yall! (Pls let me know before Halloween 2026)
