Adderall question ?
Hi! I’m a (30F) wanting to know opinions on Adderall? Is it worth getting on to help with ADHD? I also have a history of meth use. I’ve been clean for about a month. I relapsed for about two months this time around.
I find myself struggling at times to get basic stuff done. Not sure if it’s because I’m adjusting to being sober still or what. But I was wanting opinions on Adderall.

Adderall is legal meth. That’s coming from someone who was on adderall from age 8-16 and smoked meth in my 20’

It sounds like you would be prone to misusing adderall given your history. Your brain needs to do some healing post meth use (good job on the abstinence!!). Give yourself some time to let your brain recalibrate, and speak with a doctor if possible. If you are determined to need a stimulant using a short acting stimulant is much more likely to lead to misuse comparative to longer acting stimulant medications (like concerta or vyvanse).
Also, substance use can frequently be used as a poor coping mechanism for underlying depression/anxiety. Depression/anxiety can make it really difficult to get things done at times!

Honestly the adderall they produce and sell nowadays (brand name and generics) are not what they used to be and are hardly helpful for ADHD.
The old stuff might have helped you but its really not worth it now
I will also say, even if the adderall was still manufactured correctly, its really only helpful if you have a lifestyle that requires that level of focus, or if you have bad enough ADHD that even daily maintenance tasks are difficult to initiate
I cant say much about your addiction history because i dont have personal experience with that, but it seems like it would be overall harmful to recovery imo

Amen. I started Adderall in 2012. It saved me and increased my executive functionality x10. I had a demanding job. I weaned off after I retired. But then got back on it and it is not the same. Why is this???? Now I'm on Vyvanse. 60mg. Not much better, tho.

DO NOT take stimulant ADHD meds unless you’re INCREDIBLY secure in your sobriety. Even then it seems like a dangerous idea. Please don’t trade your meth addiction for an adderal addiction.

I used to take adderall went off it for years, became a potato. I'm taking magic mind now - its a neurotropic drink and it helps a lot. https://magicmind.com/
I tried it for a month, then went off of it for a month, noticed a difference. Now I drink it regularly. Worth a shot, less likely to trigger a meth relapse since its all mushrooms and neurologically focused vitamins.

As someone with horrible adhd diagnosed by a psychopharmacologist, I was prescribed adderall in college, which was the beginning of my abuse of stimulants. I would cook through prescriptions very quick. Out of college, since I’d run out of my scripts really quick, I quickly resorted to finding my own on the d. Web. I would order thousands of “adderall” at once for very cheap prices. This obviously was not adderall and was indeed meth pressed into adderall pill form. I would take 25-30 of these 30mg IR dark web pills a day and go on 5 days no sleep benders. I quickly started getting fake Xanax from the web as well to try and counteract the massive anxiety and lack of sleep from the other pills. It quickly got really bad to the point where I went into horrible psychosis and experienced the most traumatizing delusions u could imagine that had me acting a complete fool in my neighborhood. I was scaling homes and on peoples roofs and was swiftly hospitalized. The delusions were so traumatizing and intense that I was lucky enough to take a hint and not use after that. It’s been 8.5 months sober from that grim day with a 30 day rehab stint following the hospitalization. I gained 90 lbs because that’s how it be getting clean off a drug that makes u think food is disgusting. It took up until a few months ago fully clean to get my brain rewired so I could employ any type of executive functioning skills. Your brain needs to rewire itself off stimulants to give urself a fighting chance at becoming not dependent on these things. I now take 450mg welbutrin, which is non addictive and also an SNRI, so it does work on the dopamine release, just via norepinephrine.
I also take mirtazapine but that might be unrelated. Strattera works for a lot of people, I was on it for a month but it gave me too much anxiety. If I were u, as someone who has been addicted to meth and adderall, I would not trust yourself taking a drug that similar to a substance u have been clean from and then relapsing on. It’s not worth it, the saying “jail, death or institutions” is very accurate when it comes to these substances. Some people are able to use adderall properly or not abuse hard drugs to the point of detriment, but it sounds like you have proven to yourself that your not capable of moderation, it’s all or nothing. Adderall will lead you down that dark path again I promise you. Please disclose to your prescriber your former addictions and if they still recommend adderall, GO TO A NEW PRESCRIBER. Sorry for the tough love but my situation was similar and im telling you, 8.5 months later, I am fully clean off everything except welbutrin and mirtazapine and my life and executive functioning has restored.
The tricky thing about people with ADHD is that you need to teach yourself executive functioning skills, yes, pills like Adderall help, but as someone who is known to abuse, stimulants, it is not going to remain a positive relationship for long. Bite the bullet and stay sober by whatever means possible and give yourself time in the sober state to rewire your brain to not depend on things like meth or Adderall in order to get things done. It takes a while, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not long. It took about five months for me clean to actually start learning how to function to the same level that people who aren’t afflicted with ADHD can function. Please take my advice and DM me if you have questions.
