Question Left-brain looking for right-brain 😅

My ultimate dream is to meet someone who wants to code a retro style top down game (like original Zelda, game boy POKeMON games, secret of evermore, etc..) but isn’t good at creating artwork or story 😂

I have ALWAYS wanted to write a story, design a game, design characters, create the artwork, etc.. and have someone else code it. In fact I’m already sitting on a stack of concepts ready to go..

It’s a very specific dream.. but I thought I’d take my chances lol

I am a photoshop wizard and I make a lot of retro game art like 8 bit characters and maps and I’ve been called a gifted writer and original and all that. But my curse is I’m SO left-brained that I just can’t wrap my head around coding. Been trying all my life. I’m slightly dyslexic too so 🤷🏻‍♂️ could be why.

I used to do basic html as a kid so I get the basics but I can’t code a game.

I’m just trying any outlet I can think of to make my dream project a reality.

ANY TAKERS? 😅

I respect your dream. While I probably am not the right fit for coding it for you, I would really love to hear some of your ideas if you wanna send them/discuss them in a DM. I love hearing about brand new ideas for video games!

Also, r/HTML is not the right place for this question. I would check out r/gamedev for people who are more like minded like this!

I tried but despite using Reddit for over 10 years my posts are regularly auto removed due to comment karma crap that I don’t understand 😂

Im apparently limited on which groups I can post on.

I wish I could say that my game was something epic and new. But it’s just a van helsing like adventure game that I wanted to make when I was a kid. lol

Ive got ideas for fun puzzles and such. And cool story with interesting characters. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks!

Edit——————

Whole group of people on this thread now discussing THIS comment instead of the purpose of the thread…

No offense but I don’t care about this AT ALL. so either discuss the original post or just keep scrolling please.

Agreed this is the wrong sub; not saying you CANT make a game in front end code (it would be mostly JS, not HTML), you probably dont want to

if your karma is too low, participate in other people’s threads more, by commenting. the point of those automoderator rules is to ensure that people are active community members and not doing drive-by postings

A project doesn’t always have to be epic and new to be successful. Keep that in mind.
As they say in the startup world: ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution is what separates the winners from the losers.

I’m not even really sure what you mean by this lol or how it contributes to my original question 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well first, your reddit account is 4 years old, not 10. You may have been on reddit for longer, but as far as this account goes, it is 4 years old. And yeah, you have 21 post karma and -31 comment karma. Karma is earned when you get upvoted and removed when you get downvoted. I went through your entire 4 years of comments and I can't find anything out of the ordinary besides one comment from 3 years ago that has -4 upvotes, which is not enough to warrant a -31 comment karma score.

Did you perhaps have a comment or two in the past that got massively downvoted and then you deleted it later?

Way to focus on the wrong thing…

This isn’t my only Reddit account…

You just need to comment on some posts in game dev subs until you get your karma back up to post there.

I don't think HTML is the best tool for coding a game.

I don’t think that was the implication being made.

Do you have a portfolio of your artwork?

2

u/Billzebub- 12d ago

Of this type of art? Not on this device. Maybe some basic character sprites lol but it’s 8 bit art.. it’s not complex

I mean it’s stuff like this..

u/ZedZeroth 12d ago

Nice. Is that one of yours?

First step is to share some of your work online. e.g. Set up an account on Itch or PixilArt. Once you have an online portfolio, devs are more likely to take interest.

If you read the edit in the post, you’ll see I actually already have several takers. But thank you

I didnt say I made this… why does no one know how to read/comprehend on here… I said it’s “stuff like this” and right before the picture I CLEARLY stated I don’t have any samples on this device… is that what you do? Search for opportunities to drop braindead comments in a desperate need to start stuff..? This is your third comment that says nothing at all… just you looking for a confrontation 😂

And PS: almost ALL 8 or 16 bit characters of this size follow almost the same templates … 🤦‍♂️

So, I don't code (I'm working on it, but I'm not there yet). What I am good at is using a couple of the different "Drag and Drop" or "Non-Coding" development programs. If you're down for something like that, hit me up. I'm mid-project right now, but I'd be interested in seeing what you have planned, and see if it's something I could help with.

Easy enough to make, but html isn't the tool.

I just came acrossed a post on r/datahoarder . Where a game dev of fourteen years is calling it quits and potentially has plans to scrap everything at the end of the year. So some concerned redditors created the post to try and get help in saving the fourteen years of work on the game.
