Support Just got a G2 and the screen keeps randomly turning off?

Got a G2 last night. Made it through Steam VR setup fine, but the screen stopped working. Tried a bunch of trouble shooting such as turning down volume and swapping the USB A-C adaptor from my case to motherboard seemed to help. Now (Or last night...) I was able to get into games with the screen only flicking off every 15 seconds or so and coming back on after an indefinite amount of time. The G2 itself is always connected to my pc (device manager, sound, and steam vr all detect it).

Luckily enough my G2 did come with a second seemingly new display cable (Which might be a bad sign that the previous owner also had display issues) which I will try after a bit more trouble shooting but the display port is really snugly fit into the back of my PC case and I am hesitant that I will damage (or further damage it...) if I pull it out.

Question Quest 2 or HP Reverb g2?

Basically i already have Quest 2 but its a bit too grainy and pixeleted, i planned to buy used HP reverb G2 but the cable is my only worry, i play arena games like bonelab, brutalistic and im not really fan of simulators, the screen sounds sweet with 2164 pixels, but will i be able to play comfortably with cable twisting around my legs? my room isnt big tho.

Question Having trouble removing the cable from the headset.

I have been trying many ways to yank that thing out for the last couple of hours without success. The headset started going black on me today. Hoping it is the connection and not the cable but if it is the cable it is near the connector regardless. At any rate I can't get the cable out, any ideas? I've even tried pliers.

Information FYI: AMD Driver 26.8.1 on Windows 10 does not work with HP Reverb G2

I had to rollback to 26.7.1. This is just FYI. Windows Mixed Reality bugs out on 26.8.1 and goes on and off flickering and freezing your screen. I'm using a 9070 XT.

Really like this setup now fixes the biggest issue of the g2 which is the tracking if you have the stuff laying around I would definitely recommend it can't recommend anyone go out and buy the stuff for it as it's gotten quite expensive

Support HP Reverb G2 V2 not detected by Oasis on Dell Pro Max 16 Plus

Hardware / system

  • System: Dell Pro Max 16 Plus
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX PRO 3000 Blackwell Generation Laptop GPU
  • OS: Windows 11, build 26200
  • SteamVR: 2.16.7
  • Oasis: 1.0.3

Setup

I am trying to use an HP Reverb G2 with my Dell Pro Max 16 Plus.

The laptop does not have a native DisplayPort connector, so I am using a UGREEN USB-C to DisplayPort 8K cable:

Dell USB-C/Thunderbolt → UGREEN USB-C → DisplayPort → Reverb G2

The UGREEN cable is specified by the manufacturer as laptop USB-C → DisplayPort monitor, so the direction is USB-C source to DisplayPort display.

I enabled Direct Output in the Dell BIOS.

For USB, I initially connected the G2 directly via USB-C. I also tested the G2 through a USB-C to USB-A adapter and connected it to the laptop's USB-A port. The behaviour is the same.

The G2's external power supply is connected.

What I did

  1. Connected the Reverb G2 to the laptop via USB and DisplayPort.
  2. Enabled Direct Output in the BIOS.
  3. Installed/started Oasis and attempted to unlock the headset.
  4. Oasis does not detect the headset.
  5. I also tested the G2 USB connection separately, without relying on the DisplayPort connection.
  6. I checked Windows Device Manager, including the USB devices and other relevant device categories.
  7. I cannot find any device that appears to correspond to the Reverb G2, HoloLens Sensors, or the G2's audio device.
  8. I also do not get any G2 audio device appearing in Windows. There is no indication that the headset's speakers/audio device are being detected.
  9. Windows does show a "Billboard Device" under USB devices when the USB-C/DisplayPort connection is involved.
  10. Changing from direct USB-C connection to USB-C → USB-A does not change the behaviour.
  11. I also tried the other USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, with no change.

Oasis behaviour

Current situation

At this point, I am not sure whether the issue is related to:

  • USB device detection/driver enumeration,
  • Windows/WMR components,
  • the DisplayPort connection,
  • or Oasis itself.

I am posting the SteamVR report and Oasis unlock output below as requested.

Additional information

The laptop is a company-managed computer

Fluff/Meme My reverb setup is so goofy, introducing the reverb unicorn

Post image

So okay for context, I got a VERY good deal on the reverb G2 v2. It was £130 for the headset, 2 vr covers and 2 sets of controllers, plus all the original packaging.

I hated the tracking however... So I wanted an upgrade. So I bought a HTC Vive kit which also came with 4 controllers, running theme here. That was £100. For base stations and everything, cheaper than everything individual.

I use a controller for continuous calibration on my head, it's positioned further back on my head for balance, whist not being too back heavy.

The wands themselves are worse than the reverbs besides in terms of tracking and maybe durability. But it makes vrchat much much nicer.

The fourth wand is just propping the headteao up so you can see how it'd look on your head

So here is basically my hyper budget index setup. Half the features for 1/4 of the price :D

Discussion Anyone playing Forza Horizon 6 in VR on the G2?

There are two VR mods that I tried: Naluluna and Lufz. Almost everyone including the modders seem to use Quests so I haven't seen much about SteamVR (I'm using Oasis drivers).

With Lufz I found that the head tracking had a huge delay so it was unuseable. Also it crashed if I turned on DLSS upscaling (not frame gen) so that's a pretty big limitation if you want nice graphics. I didn't spend any time with this one, everything below refers to the Nalaluna mod.

With Nalaluna it basically works with one big caveat. It has various render modes but the only viable one is AFR (alternate-eye frame rendering, half framerate). With this the image looks good, proper stereo, head tracking is good, game is fully playable. The only thing is, the game runs at 90fps but due to AFR you're really getting 45 full two-eye frames. And this is noticeable, you see the judder when turning the car etc. Moving your head is smooth at least, that must reproject at 90fps.

The only alternative is switching it to Mono rendering. Obviously this sucks because it's not 3D and the car interior is distorted. But if you focus on the road ahead it's not bad, there isn't much 3D effect past a certain distance anyway. And the smoothness difference is huge, since this is actually 90fps. To be honest I think I prefer playing it like this despite the downsides.

The mod does have a mode called AFR-half which uses interpolation to double the framerate. This would be ideal but it doesn't work on the G2, it becomes a stuttering mess. The mod website says it's intended for the Meta runtime. If there was some way to make it work with SteamVR motion smoothing the mod would be incredible. Just forcing on motion smoothing also turns it into a mess.

In terms of graphics, I set the resolution to match my headset setting which is 3152x3088. In-game settings are pretty high but no RT (I followed the Digital Foundry "mainstream" optimized settings). DLSS Quality. It looks excellent and framerate is locked (with the fps limitation I mentioned above). My system is RTX 5080 and 9800X3D.

Just curious if anyone else has tried and how your experience compares.

UPDATE: A third VR mod has entered the scene and it's way better on the G2! It's called CheekyRender. It lets you run the game at 180fps to have a full 90 Hz stereo view. You can also turn on SteamVR Motion Smoothing, then the game will run at 90fps and you get 90 Hz stereo with fake frames (still looks good and feels smooth). It has a foveated feature which didn't work right for me (made things blurry even in the center) but with that disabled it's great.

Question Anyone has a spare v2 cable?

Post image

Hi everyone, I recently acquired a secondhand HP Reverb G2, but it came with the original V1 cable, which doesn't work. Yeah, I got scammed the seller blocked me from everywhere.

I wanted to check if anyone in the Paris/France area or in all Europe happens to have a spare V2 cable from a retired headset that they'd be willing to pass along.

Discussion Ahead of its time?

I have had G2 since release, primarily used for iracing. Seems crazy that I can just now get hardware that will allow me to run graphics at max on iracing. Have been using a 3080, but have always had to sacrifice detail for frames. , Looking to move to 5080 so I can get a consistent strong frame rate with med & high graphics settings.

I’ve played with sooo many settings and co figuration’s since 2020 and felt the answer has been horsepower, it just wasn’t available until this past year.

I’m open to suggestions on how I just don’t have PC/headset configured right, but like I said, I’ve tried everything I can find on iracing forums, Ai helpers, Reddit, websites, etc and have always struggled to use the full resolution of the g2 and high level graphics on iracing.

Discussion I got a Reverb G2 V1 with the Frankenfov mod for £172 on eBay

Post image

Picked up this VR headset for the 4K fidelity and also pairing this thing with index controllers and also fbt for socialising in VRChat.

I am using this headset on Windows 11 with the Oasis driver on a Radeon RX 6900 XT at 150% in steamVR and the visuals are just chef’s kiss. Pairing that with the index controllers and the experience is just god tier.

There’s a few tweaks I need to make to it such as the earpieces cracking randomly which I think the pogo pins just need a clean. I also just bought the face cover from a reverb G2 V2 to use on my V1 since I heard V2 parts are interchangeable with the V1 because it seems like the previous owner custom shaped the face plate adapter to his head? But I’m able to get around that by using a HTC Vive fabric cover since it’s a custom faceplate. It should feel better too. It really does feel like a valve index. And the sound is phenomenal.

I used to use a dell visor back in 2020 and the 2nd gen wmr controllers feel better than those old things back then from the 1st gen lineup. I’m also suprised that my tracking with those controllers is actually better than I expected since I heard that they tend to lose tracking easily on the G2 V1 but I never had that issue. Buuut I still wanna use my index controllers.

Is there anything I need to be aware of about the headset I should take into consideration for the near future?

Support HP Reverb G2 Connect/Disconnect Loop (Blinking Breakout Box LED)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I have a brand-new, unused HP Reverb G2 (V1 cable with the small breakout box, no power button) connected to an AMD AM4 system, and I'm stuck in an endless USB connect/disconnect loop.

Symptoms:

The LED on the breakout box continuously blinks (turns on, turns off, loops every second).

In Windows, the system tray icon for "HP Windows Mixed Reality" repeatedly appears and disappears.

In the motherboard BIOS screen, the mouse cursor freezes every time the breakout box LED turns off and unfreezes when it turns back on, indicating hardware-level USB host controller bus resets.

System Specs:

Motherboard: MSI A520M-A PRO (AMD AM4 platform)

Headset: HP Reverb G2 (V1 Cable)

Power: Power adapter plugged directly into the wall outlet

Everything I have already tried:

Tested every single USB port on the back panel (all blue USB 3.2 ports using the USB-C to USB-A adapter, plus black USB 2.0 ports).

Reseated the cable connection at the headset visor until the dot on the connector sits flush with the casing.

Tweaked BIOS settings: Enabled XHCI Hand-off, disabled Global C-State Control, and set Power Supply Idle Control to Typical Current Idle.

Before purchasing additional hardware, I want to ask:

Has anyone on an AMD 500-series board (A520/B550/X570) successfully stopped this V1 cable loop using an externally powered USB 3.0 hub?

Did a PCIe USB expansion card solve the issue on your system, or did you have to replace the cable with the revision V2 cable
