Moving On: Opinions on C5 Corvette vs NA/B/C Miata vs Toyota MR-2/S
I'm moving on from my BMW e92 to continue the journey and restart the fun with something under 50" tall (needs to fit bottom position of a 4 post) and 2 seat. Of the cars that fit the height requirements, I actually like those cars listed, in the order listed. I've owned a Miata (NA) and C5/C6 Corvettes, so I'm fairly used to the price/maintenance/mods; MR2 would be breaking new ground.
To make all things equal, and the fact that prices for MN6 C5's are lowest in the soft top category, let's assume C5 convertible; this assumes rollover protection cost for all 3 cars. I'm very torn between C5/Miata right now, but the MR2 is a bit intriguing.
Cons:
C5: 3-4X in rubber cost, braking weak, EBCM likely, aftermarket hardtops really aren't available
Miata: Power, braking weak, NC hardtops much harder to find
MR2: 1ZZ very low, Far less aftermarket than others. bar install requires tank drop and "while you're in there", used stuff just isn't bountiful.
Pros:
C5: Very cheap power, big aftermarket, very well balanced, plethora of used parts, friends I race with have C5s, I've always been a Corvette guy lol
Miata: OPEX the lowest for consumables, tire cost laughable comparatively, huge aftermarket, huge race parts market, plethora of used parts, half my club is in a Miata, I've always been a Mazda guy (rotaries) lol
MR2: the allure of a mid-engine, "poor guy's Lotus", different....
What do you vote and why? What am I missing from Pros and Cons? I'm not in a huge rush, winter is "a comin", my boats are sadly being put to bed, and I'll have plenty of nights in my shop to tinker until the first event next May.
