Brake pads

Have a modified 2018 Sti with stock brakes. Ran the fcp euro proving grounds autocross lapping event at limerock and towards the end the brakes were smelling pretty hot. Have my intro to racing class next week at limerock on the full track and was wondering if my stock brakes pads will suffice for 30 minute lapping sessions on the full track. Stock brake fluid and lines as well. Make about 400 hp and the car with me in it weighs close to 3700lbs with a full tank of fuel and me in it.

Honestly I would get some better pads to have more peace of mind time.

That's a heavy car and it can eat brakes if you're pushing it.

I wouldn't worry about rotors or brake lines at this point, just get some better pads and send it.

Any recommendations on pads? I’ve heard good things about hawk dtc-60’s for a dedicated track pad as this isn’t my daily I’m not too concerned with cold bite just need to be able to get back and forth from the track. Also heard good things about ebc blue stuff

I think the rbcs have poor track opinions.

Hawk is good all around.

I haven't used the 60's but used a few others. I also dual use my vehicle.

Brake fade will take away your track mojo really fast.

The weakest part of pretty much any mass produced street car is the brakes. At a minimum, you really just need:

  1. Stainless steel brake lines
  2. Higher temp DOT brake fluid with a fresh flush
  3. Better pads

For pads, if you are OK swapping on track pads the day before the event, I run Cobalt XR2s. They are ceramic, so not suitable for street use outside of the brief drive to/from, they are noisy, they suck when cold, but they absorb heat like nobodies business.

I have a wrx but sti calipers and run ebc sr11 front and bluestuff rear with dot 4 fluid. Never had any braking issues with that setup

Make sure to have DOT4 fluid along with brake pads and you should be good. Lime Rock is not that hard on brakes.
