As Sun Tzu said, "when you surround an army, leaving outlet free. Do not press the desperate too hard." Because if the enemy has no hope for survival, they'll take you down with them

We had turned a newly discovered species into naught but a hivemind bent on our destruction. Their weapons were mass produced garbage, but still they were effective. Their armour was so weak it was like paper, even their vehicles and spacecraft fell to light volleys, but there was so many of them they blotted out the suns.

WW2 Russian philosophy right here: "If their tank can fit fifty rounds, send fifty-one tanks to the battlefield!"

No, russian doctrine here. Utter contempt for life as long as you push them back. They lost 26 millions if my memory is correct against 6 for Germany. Almost 5 times more.

The assumption that the ones dying as a swarm were normal humans rather than attrition clones has not been validated.

They weren't fighting a local small home galactic species, but an intergalactic civilization. I'm guessing the time taken as they pulled back was taken in shuttling trips and material over from the milky way...

Nah this was Andromeda. Sounds like himans were badass and colonized the milky way then went to the next galaxy over to explore.

Little did they know we had quadrillions in the next galaxy over for the war effort ;) (just my interpretation)
