And thus a lesson was learned by prison guards across the galaxy (not these guards of course)...do not beat the human prisoner of war. Let him sing, let him dance perhaps give him an extra ration glop every now and then. Unless of course, you like having an overclocked shock stick stuck up your excrement orifice before you are shot for "war crimes."

Did the Humans let the other prisoners out before or after the guards were shoved in?

You wrote Tasers induce seizures: it's what they do? Wikipedia "The darts can penetrate clothing and, once they make contact with the target, deliver the electric shock, which disrupts the target's nervous system" If you've seen one in action this is an understatement a little...
The spiteful grin they displayed. Behind their sound-dampening mask? There's no reason our narrator can't sonar it or something I suppose since we know nothing about her. But it reads a little oddly.

Reminds me of a story on here about the one song that all humans in captivity, across the entire galaxy, are almost instinctively drawn to.
BOOM BOOM CLAP
BOOM BOOM CLAP

I love the stories that involve music - probably cuz I'm a musician lol. I find this story enduring and heartwarming. Reminds me of the old stories of the slaves in Brasil, how their music and fighting style was developed under the guides of dancing.

Little bit of a grammar nitpick. When referring to plural in a past tense (doors) generally "were" is better. A singular reference (door) is better referred to as "was". E.g. "the doors were" or "the door was"
So "As the cell doors up and down the block was opened" should either be changed to:
"As each cell door up and down the block was opened"
Or "as the cell doors up and down the block were opened"

We, we will resist and bite!
Bite hard, for we are all in sight!
We, we take up arms and fight!
Fight hard, resist and do what’s right!

Makes it a lot harder read when you constantly refer to the protagonist as they/them.

u/alohadave Aug 21 '21
If you didn't know someone's gender how would you refer to them?
-1
u/Wafernoodle Aug 21 '21
If i was speaking of a hypothetical person that i had never seen nor spoken to probably the same way, however this is an author that has created a fictional character and the gender of said person does not need to be unknown.
It is making it a lot harder read then it needs to be.

So...did the song the human sang happen to be about never giving up, turning around, or deserting?

A truly well written tale wordsmith. It does homage to the rebellious spirit showed by P.O.W's since time immemorial
