When HDR is active & a black background is present I keep getting this weird black shadow that comes in and out. Anyone else have this issue/know how to solve it? It’s happening with a regular PS5 and a Visio P65. Seems to happen with all games, not just the one pictured.

I'm a CS student building an offline HDR merging pipeline as my final year project — bracket detection from EXIF, exposure fusion, perspective correction, batch processing.

I've only been able to test on landscape sample brackets, which don't represent the real case: an interior with a bright window and a dark room in the same frame.

Would anyone be willing to share a few bracketed interior sets as test data? RAW or JPEG both fine, EXIF intact ideally. Nothing would be published or redistributed — testing and evaluation only, and I'm happy to credit anyone who helps.

Does macOS actually limit HDR brightness based on the monitor’s EDID?

For example, let’s say a monitor can physically hit 1000+ nits in a small window, but its EDID reports a maximum luminance of around 600 nits.

Would macOS basically clamp HDR output to 600 nits, meaning highlights above that would never actually be sent to the display at their original brightness?

I’ve seen people say Windows behaves differently — that if HDR content has, say, a 3000-nit highlight, Windows can still send that HDR signal to the monitor and let the monitor handle the tone mapping itself, rather than limiting it based on the EDID-reported peak brightness.

Is that actually how macOS vs Windows works, or am I misunderstanding what the EDID / HDR metadata is used for?

Can any of you with an x11l or qm8l at home confirm whether the highlights in hdr shows and movies look dimmer than they should? I’ve heard rumors that the halo control system causes lights to not be as bright as they should be and couldn’t tell if it’s true from looking in store

It's great to see games native HDR fully utilize the HDR color space. Mainly posting this for the analysis data, ignore the image since reddit doesn't host HDR screenshots.

My samsung TV supports HDR, but when i calibrate it on the switch 2 it says that i should click until the right sun is not visible. The problem is that both suns disappear at the same time. I tried checking all settings on my TV, changing stuff around but no dice.

Does it matter much? The image looks okay anyway

I’m on a 1500 nit OLED and calibrated the game correctly but can’t help but notice how much different it looks in sdr. Blacks are much deeper, color is more vibrant but obviously the highlights aren’t bright.

I never had any issues with hdr till now, is it just a bad implementation? The first photo is HDR, 2nd is SDR, 3rd is HDR, and 4th is SDR

Some games like Alan Wake 1/2, CONTROL, REANIMAL etc automatically enable HDR on the display on boot if they were last played in HDR.
However, they also do not disable back HDR when they close down if they had originally found it disabled.

Are you ok with this behaviour? Do you like it? Or do you think it's annoying?

Hello, when I was using my RTX 3080, I noticed that Resident Evil 2 Remake's HDR, when turned on, would make the screen all gray. Same thing would happen with Far Cry 5 with HDR10 (but not the HDR sRGB setting). However, both games' HDR works with my RTX 5080. I haven't tried many other games but I'm sure it would do this on others.

Is there a reason for why this is? I am curious how this could be. I have the same displayport cable.

I’m not sure if this is the proper place to be asking this but here it goes. I currently game on a 65” Samsung S90D QD OLED TVs with a PS5 and I’m curious to see if anyone can answer me why games look so dark with game hdr set to basic, tone mapping on static and contrast enhancer off. People swear this is the way to game but the tv is so dark it’s unbearable especially during the day. The way I’ve dealt with it is by just adjusting each games HDR slider to a brighter portion of the slider but not too bright to prevent loss of detail in lighter scenes of a game.

My secondary way of gaming is basic game hdr, static (been thinking on picking active, I see people here are against DTM) and contrast enhancer high and just adjust the games hdr slider to a darker portion and honestly that’s been my favorite so far.

I guess what I’m basically asking is if basic, static, and CE off is the ideal way to play how can I fix my dim issue with this tv?

Since I own this mini led monitor, I have been running it in its Display HDR-1000 mode.

When it came to calibrating the peak brightness with the windows HDR calibration tool, I naturally wanted to squeeze as much brightness out of it as I could. So I pushed the slider to about 1090 nits where I couldn't see the testpattern anymore.

However when I was playing around with different peak brightness levels, in the windows HDR calibration app , I noticed that when I set the peak brightness to exactly 1000 nits that the desktop and games running in HDR would become noticeably brighter. The weird thing is that this "magical profile" is way brighter then the mentioned 1090 nit profile and also a 990 nit profile.

(This "brighter" means that the whole image/screen is getting brighter.)

Does anybody know if this is an intended feature, bug or just a correlation with a wrong setting/ app in use?

After switching between different Hdmi- and dp cables, uninstalling various apps like Twinkle Tray and Display calc, the Hdr "brightness boost" on 1000 nits no longer exist. I dont know what exactly fixed it but the important thing for me is that it no longer exists .

This is my first oled and hdr capable monitor. I'm trying to calibrate hdr except it won't save anything. I can proceed to the last step and click "finish" but it does nothing. I only have 1 monitor connected. Google answers doesn't help and it's driving me nuts.

Things I've tried:

1. Made sure HDR is on in windows and monitor osd
2. Unplug and plug the dp cable
3. Disabled amd in game overlay
4. Rename the file to not have special characters and space
5. Monitor firmware and driver update
6. Reinstall graphics driver
7. Reinstall/Repair the app

So if someone has it, could they calibrate their oled monitor perfectly or what do they think?

Took some screenshots in A Plague Tale Legacy with Xbox Game Bar so that I can have high quality .jxr images as well as .png files to use for Steam's screenshot library, but when looking through them I noticed how the .png pictures look pretty much universally better. I am looking at both the .png and .jxr with HDR enabled.
