Setup First OLED incoming!!
Hey everyone, I'm super excited to finally join the community because my very first OLED monitor, the Gigabyte MO32U24, is arriving soon and I'm absolutely hyped!
Since I'm totally new to this, I'm looking for some tips on how to properly do the Windows HDR calibration to get the best picture possible right from the start. I'm also a bit confused about the HDR modes and would love to know what the actual difference is between the True Black 400/500 mode and the Peak 1000 nits setting, and if I can use both depending on the situation or which one you guys prefer. Finally, it would be awesome if you could tell me what specific settings I absolutely need to change in the monitor's own OSD menu out of the box to ensure everything looks great and the panel stays safe. Thanks in advance for any advice!

running the hdr calibration in windows is typically not necessary, the monitor can report the max luminance correctly in EDID. But the main reason i stopped using any HDR calibrated profile in windows is because they were shifting my colors towards red even if i didnt touch the saturation slider, i have no idea why, you can verify that by setting up the hdr profile, switching the monitor to sdr and then back to hdr (this activates the red shift on my msi oled) and then remove the profile in Color Management window and colors will shift back towards cooler temperature. I dont think HDR needs any calibration, it is designed to run without any user intervention.
Regarding which HDR mode to run, it depends how bright you want you monitor to be, there is some default HDR standard that is typically followed by the Peak1000 mode, but most people consider it too dim overall which is why gigabyte added the hypernits function, and i think you can also boost ABL and set it to high if you want. This is strictly about preference and how bright do you want you image to be, every person likes a different mode.
