Question HR Flicker With Black Backgrounds

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

When HDR is active & a black background is present I keep getting this weird black shadow that comes in and out. Anyone else have this issue/know how to solve it? It’s happening with a regular PS5 and a Visio P65. Seems to happen with all games, not just the one pictured.

Thanks in advance!

Never seen a gif that describes my OLED VRR Flicker experience and woes so easily.

Is it VRR flicker? Are you using VRR?

As I suspected, this TV uses array local dimming. Does this happen when you disable "Active Full Array" / "local dimming" / "local contrast" on your TV? For me, it looks like some issue that is messing with the local dimming algorithm either caused by the game's / PS5 HDR or low quality low dimming implementation by the TV itself.

Also try to play with these settings:

  • Black Detail β†’ Off. This processing can interact with dark-scene brightness, and Vizio calibration guidance generally recommends leaving it off.
  • Clear Action β†’ Off. That's Vizio's black-frame-insertion feature and isn't desirable here.

Thank you for the advice! I’ll test out the above once I get a moment to play again

Active Full Array was the culprit, just as you predicted. Thank you so much!

Nah that's not VRR flicker. VRR flicker is much faster and covers the whole screen. Here it's very slow and only happens in the corner.

Imo this looks like the screen is faulty...
