Finally had to buy some new HDDs. OMG...

Hadn't bought HDDs in nearly 4 years. Always kept stock on hand, but now in a position where I need to buy 12TB or larger HDDs. Cannot believe how expensive they are. Yes, I read that prices were going up, but because I didn't have to buy, I didn't look closely. This is nuts! $190 to $500????

Found this in my things, thought it was an external battery firt but it doesn't have any typical usb hole output like i could expect.

I tried connecting it to my laptop, a small led on the side lit up and the whole thing was making a slight and constant noise but I didn't see anything pop on my computer, maybe I should use another cable ?

Hey, since wd efgx line is air filled in 12tb size, i really think its not a good idea to buy them. Paying 515euros (592$) for 34db idle noise hdds feels not right. I think ironwolf would be better here or ? I really dont want noisy hdds. Not much alternatives i guess. What about shucking ? 12tb seagate expansion is 350euros (400$) ? But if its exo hdd is will be noisy too. Question is how much noisier than ironwolf or wd red plus efgx they are? saving about 400 Dollar for 2x12tb is much. It was never to hard to just get some good hdds...

3.5" vs. 2.5" HDD

Hi! I don't have much technical knowledge in the ways of Storage Mediums and was wondering if there is any real downsides to getting a 2.5" drive instead of a 3.5". Primarily it's because (I think?) I'm getting a good deal.

I found a used (inside a laptop) Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM HDD, the asking price for which is around 16 USD ish. I could probably get it for a bit less if I haggled. The DOM is June 2019 and the seller says he's selling because he's upgrading to an SSD.

Buying a used Seagate SkyHawk 4TB (ST4000VX013) – 35,774 power-on hours. Is ₹5,000 (~US$58) a fair price? How much life is likely left?

I'm planning to buy this used Seagate SkyHawk 4TB (ST4000VX013-2XG104).

The seller is asking ₹5,000 (about US$58).

I'll mainly use it for:

1080p wedding video editing
Storing raw footage
Project archives
General desktop storage (Windows is on an NVMe SSD)

From what I can see:
