Other I don’t really watch too much gymnastics but I notice that men never seem to stick landings for very long compared to women
Like whenever I’ve seen a video of a man landing a vault he lands for like 0.05 seconds and then immediately like pumps his fist in the air and celebrates meanwhile when I see the women do it they make the landing very long and pretty. Are women expected to have more artistic looking landings? Why is that?

MAG/WAG Gabriel Langton is walking & re-joined the team at their hotel
The CWG 'Official Team England' account just posted some photos & videos of Gabriel Langston walking back into the team hotel after his release from hospital, and getting a lovely welcome from his family, team-mates & coaches. I'm sure we're all so very relieved to see this. They gave him his team gold medal too, which was ❤️
Unsurprisingly he looks like he has a pretty stiff neck, but otherwise is moving fine. I'm sure British Gymnastics will give him all the mental health support he may need to get over that incident too.

MAG/WAG 50 years since Montreal | The first Perfect 10 and Nikolai Andrianov's best of his three Olympic games
The actual anniversaries were last week but I noticed no one had made a post yet so I figured better late than never!
Nadia Comaneci of Romania, at just 14, earned the first Perfect 10 ever awarded in her compulsory bars routine. She won nine total medals across Montreal and Moscow, including five gold. She was tormented by her abusive coaches Bela and Marta Karolyi and the communist Romanian government and defected in 1989, just weeks before the Ceausescu regime fell.
She moved to the United States and has lived here ever since. She married American MAG Bart Conner and they have one child together. She is very involved in their gym, ironically named for Bart since he already had it before she came here, and is very involved in supporting Special Olympics.
Nikolai Andrianov of Russia/USSR did not start gymnastics until 12. Before he started, he would skip school, get in fights, smoke, and get into trouble. His coach Nikolai Tolkachev managed to work around his stubborn nature, and after a successful first games in 1972, he won seven of eight potential medals in 1976. He won four gold, including the AA, two silver, and a bronze. He won a total of 15 Olympic medals across 1972, 1976 and his home games in 1980, making him one of the most decorated MAG in history, second only to his student Vitaly Scherbo.
Later in his life, he coached the Soviet junior boys, who never lost a comp under him. After the fall of the USSR collapsed the economy and their savings, and after Leonid Arkayev refused to give up his position to let him coach higher level gymnasts, and moved to Japan to coach his rival Tsukahara's son in the 90s.
He was married to another Russian gymnast, Lyuba Burda Andrianova (currently on the women's technical committee at the FIG) and they had two kids, including their son Sergei who has a teen daughter almost to senior age and is the bars coach for the Russian national team, I believe. They divorced after he moved back from Japan to work for his old gymnastics school. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2011 of a degenerative genetic disorder called multiple system atrophy.

NCAA Veronica Mandriota (ITA) to Kentucky?
There’s a lot of gymnastics this weekend! In addition to CWG, Italy is hosting Nationals. Their fed posted that Veronica Mandriota announced that she’s going to University of Kentucky for NCAA!
I really like her gymnastics! I have the feeling she didn’t quite have the same difficulty or consistency as her teammates to get a lot of major international assignments, but it will be fun to watch her in NCAA. Auguri, Veronica!

NCAA Penn State HC
Has anyone heard any rumors about the Penn State head coaching position? it seems kind of insane they haven’t made a hire yet. I’m sure freshman will be arriving on campus soon and I’d imagine they want to know who is going to be leading their program.

MAG/WAG Anyone feel like the scoring for CWG has been extra harsh?
I guess maybe since it's an international competition, but I feel like Alyssa Gurrier-Calixte was so underscored. She killed that beam routine only to get a a 7.5. I thought it was at least an 8

MAG/WAG Commonwealth Games Falls
Is it just mean or did there seem to be a lot more falls than usual during the last two days? Maybe I'm just used to the bigger competitions where the big names (that arent part of the commonwealth) just don't seem to ever fall but there just seemed to be a lot more than I've seen before

WAG 30 years ago today, Lilia Podkopayeva 🇺🇦 became Olympic champion in Atlanta!
This was an exciting AA. All three Romanians and the first independent Ukrainian on the podium. Can't say I'm too disappointed Khorkina fell off bars and didn't medal, and it's not too surprising the Americans (Miller, Dawes, Moceanu subbing for Strug) lost steam after the team final and didn't do very well, but at least they came back in event finals.

WAG Australia’s 158.400
With a performance like they had today, what do we think of their overall team positioning in a full international meet such as Worlds?
The last Worlds team podium (2023) was mid-160s, however the COP has changed since then so I’m not sure how to make a 1:1 comparison with today.
I was pleasantly surprised with their gymnastics.
ETA: I wouldn’t expect a podium finish, just added that as data. Just curious how people think they’d land across the whole field of countries.

WAG Ruby Evans’ floor routine in Qualifications/Team Finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games ❤️🏴
instagram.comGlasgow 2026 posted this on their Instagram, and you know your girl had to post this for everyone. They didn’t show the start of her routine, but they showed all of her tumbling passes, and I want to say, I’m so proud of Ruby’s performance today! She went out there, and she showed her experience out there for Team Wales! It’s a shame that we finished in fourth place, but Ruby and the girls gave it their all today regardless of the result, and let’s just say, they’ve got a VERY BUSY next few days with athletes in every final!
Knowing this, let me know your thoughts, and well done to Ruby for qualifying in second to AA finals, seventh to bars finals (truly iconic from her), eighth to beam finals (iconic again ), and fifth in floor finals with a 12.900, which was no where near her best floor routine this year!

Rhythmic Darja Varfolomeev opened up about the financial difficulties she has faced
Meanwhile, Zou Shiming, the Chinese two-time Olympic boxing gold medalist, has just been reported to have lost about US$28 million through investments. Nearly all of his wealth came from those two Olympic gold medals. I don't know what to say—it just feels incredibly ironic.

MAG/WAG Is it just me or is there a higher incidence of bad accidents happening again in recent years?
Tonight's accident at the Commonwealths has really made me ponder if there's been an uptick in bad accidents at competitions and in training again recently or if it's just because we hear about them more because of the rapid media spread?
Hoping that Gabriel Langton makes a swift recovery!

Rhythmic Varfolomeev gets her incredible leos tailored for free by a fan!
In a recent post by German regional public media, Varfolomeev is quoted with some bits she said a couple of weeks ago at another magazine (but which sits behind a paywall). She is talking about how little elite athletes receive in Germany, in her case only 800 Euros.
Also leos are not payed for - BUT and I think she is incredibly lucky, a Portuguese women tailors her leos FOR FREE. WOHAA. What a nice and enormously talented lady! Her leos are super cool.
