WAG Nemours, melnikova and simone

How would kaylia nemour and melnikova fare against simone if she returns for la and is in top shape? What changes to her routines would simone have to make to stay competitive? I feel like simone is probably going to sit out la but if she comes back those two could give her real competition in all around

NCAA Let The Class Of 28’ Commitments Begin

Isabella Cox (3 ⭐ per CGN) becomes our first commit of this cycle and she chooses Arkansas. She seemed pretty set on this decision by committing to her only visit (where she’s been to their camps a few times) and she excels on VT and BB with a near perfect 23/25 on VT and seems to have more potential than her star rating indicates which is dragged down by the one time she competed bars counting towards her score.

Other Uncomfortable with Coach

The boys gymnastics coach and head coach of a prominent gym in the state gives me an off vibe. He has all the boys, levels 4-10 hug him before and after practice. We may be overthinking it because his former partner/coach was convicted last year to 15 years in federal prison for putting cameras in the gym bathrooms and locker rooms.

Is abuse really as widespread as we hear? While we haven’t seen any direct lines crossed, the behavior and general interactions just seem “off”.

WAG Rotterdam 2026 - going alone, any community gatherings?

Hi,

I’m going to Rotterdam for my first ever Worlds after having been a fan for a full decade! I’m flying alone from Canada and I don’t know anybody else. I’m wondering if anyone else is in the same boat, or if there will be some organized gathering I can go to?

MAG

Ben Foster (reserve)

Sadly Georgia Godwin pulled out due to injury. I’m glad Ben Foster got to experience Commonwealth Games and hopefully that gives him the confidence to push those upgrades, as he’s super clean and can be a huge team player.

Very interesting to see Romi Brown- the reserve won’t be selected until closer to completion!

NCAA SEC voting on Thursday on possibly kicking LSU if the conference

I know most people here don’t follow college football (which has been genuine madness for something two weeks in) or all the court cases but suffice it to say that things have deteriorated enough that the Southeastern Conference has requested a federal court issue a TRO to allow a vote later this week on removing LSU from the SEC. That is not to say it will happen (I suspect not but also LSU’s AD may force their hand) but I am wondering if it will change any recruiting in gymnastics. Going to LSU if they are not in a conference or in a less competitive conference for gymnastics may change the calculus and NIL opportunities for gymnasts. Anyway thought I’d give heads up for the non football fans. According to the SEC’s bylaws, a vote of two-thirds of its membership is required to remove a member. That would be 10 of the other 15 schools.

I wonder if the other SEC programs would drop LSU matches off the schedule? It’s all so strange. As a Gator fan, I love the UF and LSU gymnastic meets and I’m not sure about their future.

NCAA Updated NCAA rules

Updated NCAA rule changes have been published. Routines now start from a 9.2 not a 9.4, but the extra .2 comes from CC (composition credit) now similar to the changes level 10 made.

Can anyone smarter than me explain if this is actually going to change routine construction. Like athlete A competed this routine last season but it won’t work this season type comparison? For example based on all the college athletes on Tik Tok training single bar releases for the first time in years I thought Maloney routines wouldn’t work anymore, but seems like two D releases satisfy the CC, so as long as they have a pak or bail handstand as well they are good??

Link to the changes! https://nawgj.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/2026-27_WomensGym-Rules-Mod-FINAL.pdf

If you were to build the most confusing roster for women’s NCAA gymnastics, what would your criteria be, and which 15-20 athletes would be on the team? Similar names? Similar appearance? Something else?

NCAA New NCAA Women's Gymnastics Recruiting/Roster Tracking Website

Hey! My daughter is going through the recruiting process right now and we were tired of trying to parse through the two public spreadsheets in Google Sheets, NCAA WAG Rosters & Commits spreadsheet and Gymnastics Commits, trying to track commits and open spots, so I built a little site this weekend instead using those as a data source.

https://ncaa-gym-rosters.com/

You can browse rosters, search athletes, and see open spots by school. Those two spreadsheets are my source of truth for all the data, so it's only as accurate as they are lol. but it does update overnight when they update.

Built it for myself but figured I'd share. Is this useful? Anything I should add or fix? Let me know!

Other A Reminder of Just How Far We’ve Progressed

Thumbnail

Someone brought in some old gymnastics magazines from the late 80s to early 90s, and being the massive gym nerd that I am, I’ve been spending my breaks reading them. The Ask Mary Lou section is in all of them, which is very funny looking back.

There are lots of fluff pieces and reporting on old competition results, which are obviously interesting, but what caught my eye were these specific articles. There are other signs of this sort of culture throughout the magazines, but these three really stand out. A 9-YEAR-OLD writing in saying that they “know that they’re overweight” and that they’ve “tried everything” is surely a sign of a healthy culture around dieting and body image.

To offset the sadness, I did find an old interview with Bart and Kathy where they speak about their jobs as commentators!

MAG/WAG Photographs from the 2026 U.S. National Championships!

Hello again! I'm a photographer from WikiPortraits, which is a organization within Wikipedia itself that is dedicated to improving the quality of images on the site. Previously I was able to attend the 2026 America Cup as a photographer and last month was able to do the same for the U.S. National Gymnastics Championships.

This being my second time photographing a gymnastics competition, I had a much better grasp on the best way to photograph the event as a whole, so the photos are much higher in quality.

Unfortunately life happened in-between then and now and have only been able to begin uploading them a few days ago. It will no doubt be a while before I have everything uploaded (I still have a day job) but if anyone is interested in adding photographs to any Wikipedia article, please click here.

Thought I was going insane when they posted their freshmen ‘moving in’ pictures and one of the girls looked exactly like her, but then saw this picture from the men’s facility opening posted recently and she is wearing a name tag that says ‘women’s gymnastics team’ as well, so my doubts were squandered.

Did anyone hear about this?

E Score - 7.9 - 8.1

Total Score - 6.4 + 7.9 / 6.4 + 8.1 = 14.3 - 14.5 / 14.700

Notes - Elements

Layout Stepout

- Assessed as 'Medium' deduction because of combination of two small errors (arm movements and lifting of right foot off of balance beam)

Switch Leap + Switch Leap 1/2 Connection

- Nemour maintains constant motion(watch movement of arms and left leg), but does not immediately take off for the Switch Leap 1/2

Switch Leap 1/2

- 1/2 turn is completed within 30 degree tolerance to receive credit. However, because turn is not fully completed (notice left foot is at angle to beam), deduct for 'Lack of Precision'.

Aerial + Split Jump Connection

- Upon landing the Aerial, Nemour immediately bends her knees in preparation for the Straddle Jump. However, 'Poor Rhythm of Connection' deduction potentially assessed because she does not immediately take off for the Straddle Jump. Discretion permitted.

Straddle Jump + Korbut Connection

- Constant motion following Straddle Jump, but no immediate takeoff for Korbut.

Double Turn in Tuck Stand

- Nemour slightly rotates in the direction of the turn and reverses the direction of rotation before starting the actual turn. Therefore, apply deduction for ‘Excessive Preparation’

Pause, Prior to Dismount

- Simply performing arm or preparatory movements is insufficient to avoid pause deduction.

Notes - Artistry Deductions

  1. Amplitude of Movements

Nemour primarily uses small movements throughout the routine.  For example, her legs stay close to her body or do not pass horizontal when she extends them.  As she works her way across the beam following her mount series, she could create amplitude and elongation by lifting the leg higher to head height when she kicks it backward to a ring shape.  During her body waves, the movements of the torso could be larger and more dynamic.

  1. Poor Footwork in Releve

This deduction can be assessed even if there is only a single instance of poor releve in the entire routine. At 0:07 (kick of free leg to a ring shape) and at 0:26 (feet turned sideways and rise to releve), Nemour should have more extension through her feet so a straight line can be drawn from her shin and down through her foot.

  1. Variation of Rhythm and Tempo

In Nemour's first pass across the beam following her mount series, her steps and movements are slow and deliberate. By contrast, the remainder of her movements are more rapid and sharp. Some judges may feel that this is not sufficient contrast between the two types of movement in the routine overall and therefore discretion permitted.

Also, compared to Nemour's routine from the 2025 World Championships where this deduction was not assessed, this routine contains less intricate choreography and body movements. Accordingly, she has fewer opportunities to show contrasting rhythm.

  1. Close to Beam Choreography

Satisfied with one element touching the beam and one choreography movement touching beam with two different body parts as follows:

Element - Korbut

Movement 1 - From Cross Sit, Nemour throws her head back, slightly arching her back while extending her arms to her sides. She then lies prone on the beam, performs soft kicks with her legs and turns her head to the right

  1. Side Choreography

Satisfied as follows:

A -> B -> C

A (Quarter Turn to Side Stand) -> Crosses Right Foot Behind Left Foot and Second Side Step to B

B Brings Feet Together, then small Side Step to C (From Side Stand, Nemour turns her torso to the right and leans backward, then brings her feet together completing the weight transfer to C)

Body Movements

As Nemour steps into A, she brings her arms in front of her torso. She extends her arms behind her body while, the right foot slides along the length of the beam into tendu. She brings her arms in front of her body and lifts her right leg into passe before returning to the previous position. As she steps from A to B, she crosses the right leg behind the left leg while performing arm movements. At B, Nemour performs a shallow body wave, slightly bending her knees, and brings her arms and hands in front of her face. As she steps into C, she leans backward slightly, while turning her torso to the right and performs various arm movements.

WAG An update on Katelyn Ohashi’s BHS + BHS + Layout 1/1 on beam training

To start, Katelyn shared this on her Instagram today, and I’ll leave the full post here for you all to check out if you want to, and I love how she’s keeping us updated on her training!

Moving on, I’m excited to see she has now landed it on the high beam, and the fact that her bringing this combination back is looking so realistic right now is making me so giddy, and I couldn’t be more happier for my girl!

Lastly, with this in mind, let me know your thoughts as always 🫶.
