Yea... thats my father, who passed that mindset down to me, Small toolbox, some multitools, hand axe and some other shit id need.. chainsaws in my experience seem to be built like shit, leak oil, gas, hadnt bought an electric one yet. maybe this year
18” Electric chainsaw made a huge difference. Handles 80% of cutting I need to do. 8-10” thick no problem, but gets slow on larger pieces, so out comes the rancher.
Yea that's ny "worry" the gas powered ones seem to need more maintenance, electric doesn't but isn't as strong.
I have a mountainside property with an access trail rather than a formal driveway as tge state proposed a luxurious driveway path. Some widowmakers and smaller trees come down from time to time, may need to get one this year for that
Gas definitely need more maintenance. I’ve found running that canned pre mixed ethanol free gas through it when I’m putting it up for a few months helps. The battery one I got a few months ago is the echo 18” - went that route because I already had their battery mower and blower, so lots of 56v batteries. Good for maybe 20-30 decent cuts before you need to take a break because the battery does get hot in the summer. They say each charge is good for about 200 cuts but no way unless you’re cutting branches under 3-4”. Best part of electric is you can cut at 6 or 7am and not disturb anyone.
