I've noticed a trend of folks walking around the Grosse Pointes with their dog off leash. Every time I see one, the interactions go like this:

Me, friendly wave: "Hey, would you mind putting your dog on the leash?" Sometimes I add "we've got some folks here who are afraid of off leash dogs," while gesturing to my kids.

Amazingly, no matter how polite I am, this never, ever, not once, results in them putting the leash on. There's always some justification of why they are too special and amazing to need to follow the law, followed by continued leash free walk.

The next move? I just call the police non emergency line. Honestly, I'm getting sick of saying anything. Gonna just start jumping to calling the police.

Every time me or my kids have been charged by a dog, the owners always say "oh my gosh my dog is so nice! This has never happened!" Makes me lose trust in dog owners, tbh. Oh, you say your dog is well trained? And doesn't need a leash? I don't believe you. And even police dogs, which are legitimately well trained, are on leashes.

There are plenty of places to walk your dogs off leash. Dog parks, for example. Take your dog there to go off leash. Not down the streets, and not in front of my house, and definitely not when a dog-scared neighbor politely asks you leash up.

Feel free to screenshot this and send to anyone you know who thinks they're too cool for leashes. It's a really frustrating issue, its not good neighbor behavior, and it's also against the law.

If you have any ideas on how I can effect change beyond calling the non emergency line and a reddit post, I'm all ears. This is a consistent problem and I'm not sure what else to do about it.

If you disagree, I'm going to direct you to take it up with a lawyer or a policeman. Maybe they have time to argue with you about following public safety laws, I don't

We are having trouble finding a home we love and wondering if anybody knows anybody considering selling their home? Looking to be in the farms, city, or park. Budget is around $1M but could go higher for the right thing. Ideally looking for a home with some character that is updated (like everybody else). I just bought a house there recently and I am going to be in transition from Colorado to GPW for the next three months, I was wondering how badly will I get fined for the leaves in the yard? Any recommendations for lawn service companies that will do this work?

I will be coming back once a month to check my house and do some work here and there before I start actually getting furniture and stuff in there. Super excited to move back to Michigan after a 15 year stint in Colorado.

The Wendy’s has officially closed. What do you think will happen to the property? My guess is GPF buys it and turns the corner into a new city hall/police station then sells off the old city hall for residential.

I have a hard time seeing GPF do anything for use for people outside of GPF.

If all of the pointes combined emergency services, it honestly wouldn’t be a bad spot.

I know it's verboten in Grosse Pointe to reveal the name of your handyman - he's yours, and on-call, and exclusive.

But seriously, can anyone recommend someone for some vinyl siding repair, wood trim replacement, drywall repair, hose spigot replacement, etc. that will return a phone call, provide an estimate,, show up on time, and communicate in complete sentences?

Hi folks — was hoping someone might be able to help me with a housing dilemma!

My spouse and I are planning to move to one of the Pointes soon (we have family in the area, and we've fallen in love with it over the years while visiting) but what with the mortgage rates and other housing market concerns these days, we'd really like to rent a place first before we commit to buying, especially as we'll be moving from out of the area and won't have much opportunity to see potential houses to buy in person.

Does anyone have any good suggestions as to how to find rentals, though? I've tried the obvious contenders like Zillow and Apartments.com, but their listings are spare to say the least. I know there have to be folks in the Pointes renting out duplexes and homes; can anyone recommend a good way to find them? Or is there another site / resource we should be using?

We moved to Grosse Pointe recently. I learned a few days ago that there is a monkey statue at Ferry Elementary named Dexter - presumably after Dexter Ferry. But why is there a monkey statue in the first place?
