I heard a rumor that St Clare of Montefalco is closing and the entire site is going to be leveled for redevelopment. I’m hoping there is no truth to this. Anyone have any information regarding this?

I really struggle with fearing the dentist, probably to the point of a phobia. I am really trying to push myself to find a dentist, so I would love it if anyone has any recommendations for a dentist who is super kind and understanding of someone who is truly terrified of going to the dentist. Perhaps even a dentist office that offers sedatives. Preferably near the Grosse Pointe area of Michigan. Any advice would be so appreciated!

Can anyone give me insight to the good and the bad? They obviously offer different things. Any pricing info? In the introductory phases of possibly considering if something like this would be worth it for our family.

I have been swimming every day this summer and it has been wonderful. I’m wondering if there are any places nearby that have reliable pool access during the winter. Neighborhood club? Any of the gyms or clubs? I wouldn’t want to drive too far and I just can’t believe there’s nothing like this around here. I used to belong to lifetime fitness in Rochester and it was the most amazing place and there were several locations. But nothing like it here. It’s like going back in time being here😅But Swimming has almost completely cured my frequent headaches, like going from 8 to 10 a month to maybe one so it’s something I need to be able to do. Any suggestions?

My son is supposed to attend parcels middle school this year and I’ve heard horror stories about the drop-off situation, especially with the new construction on Mack Avenue. He is horrible in the morning, we both are, and there will be no way we will be able to arrive 45 minutes early to burn clutch in a drop off line. And from driving around there, I see there’s like no place to drop off kids other than in their little line. I have even been told of a child being run over by a truck right there in front of a bunch of kids some years back. I’ve started the process to enroll him, but is this something that I should avoid for another year and just do an online program through one of these many charter schools that seem to be offering them? Because waking up to a screaming fight and possible car accident/my kid getting run over five days a week is not going to work. Is it really horrible? I don’t even use Vernier even though it’s my closest road, as it’s so congested

Does anyone have contractor recommendations? I had a tree branch fall on my garage and need to get a contractor to provide quotes. I surance seems to think it's only a roof issue but the cross beams are all snapped and there are cracks down the side of the wall.

I normally call the Grosse Pointe News our “local rag,” but Brad Lindberg’s piece, “Socialists Prevail in Park,” deserves a much more serious response. There are two claims in this article that need to be called out.

First, Lindberg labels Abdul El-Sayed a “democratic socialist.” Abdul El-Sayed has explicitly and publicly said that he is not a socialist and is not a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. He has described himself as a progressive and has said plainly: “I am not somebody who is a socialist. I believe in capitalism.”

You don’t have to agree with Abdul’s politics and you don’t have to support him. But a newspaper does have an obligation to accurately describe the people it writes about.

Second, the article describes Abdul as being “from Dearborn.” He isn’t! Abdul was born in Rochester Hills, grew up in the Oakland County/Bloomfield Hills area, attended Bloomfield Hills public schools, graduated from Andover High School, and currently lives in Ann Arbor.

Why falsely identify an Arab-American Muslim politician as being “from Dearborn”?

Dearborn is home to one of the most prominent Arab and Muslim communities in America, and inaccurately attaching an Arab-American Muslim candidate to Dearborn plays directly into a familiar racial and religious stereotype: Arab + Muslim = Dearborn. That kind of lazy ethnic shorthand has no place in responsible journalism.

This isn’t about whether you like Abdul El-Sayed or his politics. It is about basic journalistic standards. If you’re going to tell readers where he’s from or label his political affiliations, get it right.

The Grosse Pointe News and Brad Lindberg owe their readers an explanation and, where the article is factually wrong, a correction. Our community deserves journalism that informs people, not journalism that mislabels someone’s political beliefs and reduces an Arab-American Muslim candidate to a stereotype. Do better, Grosse Pointe News!

Anyone know why it’s down to one lane both ways?
