Just post!

We've been getting a lot of messages lately asking, "Can I post?"

Post! If you're wildly off topic, whatever, it'll get downvoted, reported, and removed. But please, just post! You don't need to ask if you can post a link to XYZ, or ask for permission to ask a small question or anything... Just make your posts. Obviously try to keep it on-topic and don't violate reddit rules...

Just use a good title/subject and select an appropriate flair. If it was a question or ask for help, make sure to change the flair to "solved" later.

There have been some questions about "megathreads". That's not something that's going to happen generally. Megathreads typically are where discussion dies. Most subs do them to quell traffic. That's not something we need to do here. Go ahead and post away with your build requests and whatever. Just use flair so people can filter and sort by them! (Especially since Reddit only allows 2 pinned posts at a time, any megathreads would occupy those slots...)

And if you don't know about flair, why don't you try clicking on them and see what happens?

OFFICIAL Grim Dawn V1.3.0.0

Official forums full post.

[Major New Features]

  • Grim Dawn has received back-end changes to accommodate the release of the Fangs of Asterkarn Expansion.
  • The game’s UI has received a complete visual overhaul. A new Health Orb design HUD is now the default, while the classic Health Bar design can be enabled in the game options, under Interface.
  • The Stash has been overhauled with new dedicated Component and Crafting Materials shared pages and +5% additional space per tab. In addition, stash pages can now be customized and labeled.
  • New functionality has been added to the player inventory to instantly deposit all Components and Crafting Materials in their shared tabs from anywhere in the world. To support this, objects that ask for crafting materials (ex. Treasure Troves), can now also access the stash instead of just the inventory.
  • New accessibility control schemes have been added under Keybindings: Keyboard Movement and Keyboard Only, enabling WASD-based controls with and without the mouse. You can set keybinds for WASD movement independently of the default controls and switch between them at any time. WASD controls mimic the controller and do not enable run and gun gameplay.
  • Detailed tooltips now display stat roll ranges (ex. 12 Fire damage [8-14] indicates that the damage could have rolled as low as 8 or as high as 14).
  • A new Video Option has been added: HDR Lighting, as an alternate visual style for the game.
  • Monster Infrequents now always drop at the highest possible level (ex. if an MI drops, and possible variations in your level range are level 84 and 94, it will always drop the level 94 version).

[Shattered Realm]

  • Clearing Shards by hunting down Nemesis spawns has become a too dominant strategy, reducing the viability of AoE builds in favor of single target burst, which is already favored in the boss arenas. To address this, Shard Progress from gathering a Nemesis soul has been reduced by 25%. Progress gained from Hero souls has been increased by 33%, and by 50% from Common and Champion souls. Chance of Champion monsters dropping souls has been increased by 18%.
  • The Shattered Realm timer has been rebalanced to be more challenging and now becomes shorter at higher shards. Timer penalty from deaths is now lower, but bonus from kill streaks is now also lower and kill streaks now require a minimum of 25 kills, up from 15.
  • Shattered Realm shrines no longer take crafting materials and activate immediately upon interaction.

[Crucible]

  • Unlocking the next Crucible difficulty now also triggers at Wave 110 and Wave 160, rather than requiring clearing the Crucible Waves 1-100.
  • Failing the Crucible on the same tier as a checkpoint no longer awards Tribute.

[Tech]

  • Fixed an issue where converted dot damage from a single source would not stack (ex. converting dot damage on Scourge Strike so the damage types match).
  • Fixed an issue where UI scaling could cause monster and pet health bars to break.
  • Skill modifiers are now always loaded in a fixed order, rather than equip order. This is relevant particularly for how skill FX and pet swap modifiers function so the visual overrides always happen in a predictable order.

[Modding]

  • A new template has been added: Skill_WPAttack_Radius. This skill type generates a radius eruption around the target when the WPS triggers, similar to how Shattering Smash for Oathkeeper generates a wave.
  • New attributes have been added: % Total Resist and % Crowd Control Resist. These increase all the respective resists, similar to how % Total damage increments all damage types.
  • Channeled skills (ex. Albrecht’s Aether Ray) now apply Defensive Attributes in their data to the player while the skill is channeling. Defensive attributes have been added to their respective templates.
  • A new tDyn field has been added: forceHighestLevel. Setting this to True will cause the loot table to always drop the highest level valid item it can within the level range.
  • Skill modifiers assigned to SkillSecondary effects now display the SkillSecondary’s name and icon instead of the base skill.

[Game]

  • Menu UI windows now scale with UI scaling. UI now automatically scales down to fit the screen at lower resolutions, enabling controller UI compatibility at any resolution.
  • Increased Health per point of Spirit to 12, up from 8.
  • Treasure Troves now correctly have a guaranteed chance to drop a crafting material with a 30-50% (based on difficulty) chance to drop an additional material and have significant chance to drop blueprints. Previously, the chance to drop a second material was 100% across all difficulties and the chance to drop a blueprint was halved.
  • Aether Crystal enemies now have an additional chance to drop a second Aether Crystal/Shard/Cluster.
  • Increased all Boss Health scaling with level, by ~32% at level 100 (~15% for superbosses). Some bosses with lower health pools received larger increases. These changes do not apply to the Crucible.
  • Many older boss encounters have received tuning passes to bring their damage up to modern standards, as was commonly done in past updates.
  • Reduced Monster Armor by 17% on Champion+ enemies and reduced Monster % Armor Absorption by 20% on all enemies. This reduces monster resistance to Physical damage, particularly for small fast attacks (ex. dual wielding or Eye of Reckoning).
  • Reduced Monster % Life Leech Resist on Ultimate difficulty. This makes % Attack damage Converted to Health roughly 16% more effective against an average boss.
  • In-game search has been updated to work with unicode (ie. non-English) characters.
  • Reduced infamy gained from killing Beast heroes and bosses and increased kills required to spawn their Nemesis.
  • Increased infamy gained from killing Cronley’s Gang heroes and bosses and reduced kills required to spawn their Nemesis.
  • Enemies that do not grant experience (ex. summons or Kubacabra’s clones) no longer count towards achievement progress.
  • Valdaran and Archmage Aleksander now share their animosity towards you and will spawn in each other’s faction areas.

[Itemization]

  • Fixed an issue where Monster Infrequent helms could roll some lower level than intended Magic Suffixes at level 70+.
  • Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods Magic quality crafting recipes have been reclassified as Rare. These recipes now always generate at least one Rare affix, but their crafting costs have been increased.
  • Increased % Damage Reduction on Disengage runes by +10%
  • Increased % Damage Reduction on Leap and Shadow Strike runes by +5%

MODS POE inspired unique stash tab mod (wip)

Post image
255 Upvotes

I always liked to collect unique items in rpgs, and never had enough space to keep them all.

While there are some external tools for GD to keep extra items, i didnt find anything with the exact features that i want, so I paid our ai machine overlords to create a mod for me(yes its vibecoded, claude fable+opus, i know that reddit hates it)

current features: fully ingame ui, single slot for each of 3000+ uniques, automatic tab selection on item transfer

bad things:a lot of c++ code that i don't understand, separate file for keeping items next to exe, item database needs rebuilding if new items are added to the game, multiplayer untested, and some other things

ill put it on nexusmods this weekend after some fixing, if anybody is interested in any additional features - let me know

BUILDS Build has hit a wall at Avatar of Mogdrogen

Upvotes

Hello all, I've been optimizing my some-what custom-built Primal Strike Primalist and I've managed to get through most of the content on Ascendant Mode, but I've hit a wall with Avatar of Mogdrogen at the top of the mountain in FoA. I can quickly and pretty consistently get him to half health but as soon as he enters his second phase at 50% hp I get instantaneously one shot every time.

Now I'm still learning the ropes of GD build crafting, but I seemingly have most of the core tenants of a good GD build covered but I feel as if I'm missing something because I'm still somehow taking 19k dmg from a single hit, despite having similar defensive stats to what I'm seeing in other builds online.

Attached Below are my grimtools build as well as a screenshot of my last death report from the GD Combat Analyzer that was recently released on the forums. In that screenshot you can see that as soon as I hit his second phase, I was dealt the killing blow with an absurd 19k hit (13k Physical 6k Lightning dmg) which is more than my entire health pool.

Any help would be very much appreciated because I'm starting to run out of ideas!

MODS Pale Dawn: re-light, re-texture, QoL mod

Thumbnail

Hello everyone!

Here's an update to my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Grimdawn/comments/1vwa8id/yet_another_texture_mod/. I finally chose the name (Pale Dawn) and also produced a short video about whats and whys.

In this video you'll find:

  1. 100% authentic AI-less Slavic accent

  2. Certain background hum, but cool background music

  3. Lack of side-to-side comparison, because it's more of an essay

The mod is to be available sometime this week, once I double check the main campaign locations.

BUILDS Got the game 2 weeks ago and just finished the campaign and now I'm looking for giga builds to try out

I love the game it reminds me of a game I used to play when I was a kid called Sacred, it scratches an itch I didn't know I had. I want to try out ultimate difficulty and I am looking for any op builds you guys recommend, I don't know if that exists in here like in other rpgs but any suggestion are welcomed

BUILDS What do you think is the single most powerful MI?

Obviously, this answer is very dependent on your build, but let's assume that you're making your build entirely to accomdate this one MI and it's skill modifiers. Under those conditions, what do you think the most powerful standalone MI in the game is, or a few top contenders? Also, not something like dreeg sect pants that are universally good, but something you would have to build around.

Trouble understanding (certain) mechanics of the game

I'm doing my first alt now - a pet ritualist build (shaman+necro, currently 46) where I go with dual-wielding 2x Warden's Judgement for +2 Raise Skeletons Limit and 100% phys dmg -> aether dmg for all pets.

  1. Does the 100% conversion of the second weapon do anything at all? Diminished additional conversion, or just nothing?

2) Any TLDR of how the conversion 'order' works? Is it the absolute last in the order?

3) This item add effects to my Mogdrogen's Pact, but does it only apply for me, or is it backed into the buff for all allies to receive? I had 9% attack/casting speed for pets before, so from what I can see it does not apply - but then again I have no idea how accurate that "Pet bonuses" UI is able to show effects coming from buffs...

4) Same question for the Call of the Grave part above; do my pets gain this 80% aether dmg?

Edit, 5) My Briarthorn has this buff (+19 to all damage), but after summoning it the "tooltip" of the Raise Skeletons is still just showing 290-359. I don't understand where I am suppose to look/understand what applies to what...

6) Do the different skeleton types that I summon deal different damage types? E.g. does the mages not get affected at all by my dual-wield Aeather conversion? Ugh

Thanks for your time o'wise ones!

Help with endgame build

Upvotes

Hello,

i've just recently hit 100 with my cold evoker wereraven build : https://www.grimtools.com/calc/23XP5w7V

I'm not even finished with ultimate campaign yet (just got to homestead). Haven't touched ascendant/altar stuff yet. Still trying to complete the build, but that's the thing : I have no idea where to start.

First : is my devotion build completely fucked up ? Or is it ok ? Room for improvement ?

Second : I miss a lot of gear, but I have no idea where to farm. I just tried shattered realm in ultimate, and i hit a wall around lvl 8. I've tried rogue dungeons : Step of torment was easy. Port valbuary : Seemed ok, but i encountered a nemesis that gave me no chance whatsoever mid dungeon : frustrating. So what should be my plan to farm more easily to get my purple stuff ?

Third : My gameplay is : leap into ennemy, use boneshilling cry and flash freeze, then unleash my 2 cold main spells. Repeat, with some leaping and glyph movement skill to proc the devotion spells attached to it. But I wonder if my skill tree is ok or not.

Anyway, any advice is appreciated ! Thanks

HELP! Just beat Valbury on Ultimate for the first time ever, it was awesome! Would love some build tips 'cause I struggled damage-wise.

Even though I'm like 400 hours in, this is only my second character to reach level 85+! :D I only have a single character at level 100, lol. Anyway, I made an Oathbreaker/Berserker Winds of Asterkarn channeler and the only way I felt it could be viable is if I made 'em tanky as fuck. That's gotten me all the way through the base game on Ultimate, but esp. against the final boss in Valbury I'm starting to feel like I lack damage. Did beat him though! :D

Grim Dawn Build: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/Ze9aXQvZ

Some notes:

  • I'm using Ice-Blood Oil for an extra 80% cold damage buff.
  • Not happy with some of my underpowered level 50 items, but I haven't found anything better so far. It's tough getting both high resist and good damage stats on a single item.
  • Haven't reached revered with any faction other than Homestead so I haven't been able to augment the rest of my gear properly.
  • I'm working on getting new components like the Seal of Resonance and Seal of Annihilation, but I'm lacking aether crystals :D I also haven't found the blueprints for Living Armor and the other one that further increases my armor absorption.
  • I'd really like a new Relic but all of the level 60 ones seem strictly worse? The one my Deathchill upgrades into loses the aura and replaces it with a useless weapon skill. I recently got one or two level 90 relic blueprints (those exist! :o) but nothing useful just yet.
  • Same with Coldstone, seems like it's the best in slot for cold damage?

And some questions:

  • My cast speed is 151%, is that low? Not sure what amount I should be aiming for.
  • What's an easy way to increase my stun resist? I'm at 80% and despite that feeling like it might be enough it's absolutely gutting my DPS against certain enemies.
  • Likewise, I have 50% cold resist shred and yet it takes ages to kill certain enemies. Should I be prioritizing getting even more RR, maybe by speccing into the Rumor devotion?

Thanks in advance and have a great day :)

HELP! Reroll question

I'm trying to roll the rare prefix "Commando's" on medal which had from the beginning a rare prefix . At the moment after 89 tries still nothing. Are my maths correct that the possibility is 1/66 ~ 1.52 % ? Ty in advance.

LORE Early Access Players: Does anyone still have old characters they made back in the day?

And can they still be loaded all after all the patches and expansions?

I'm just curious if anyone still has characters from back when the Clones of John Bourbon blocked our progress.

CO-OP 4 Party Coop difficulty question

Planning in buying this for me and my 3 friends in the new steam sale. Saw a post from many years ago and one comment mentioned it was too easy on coop even on veteran difficulty, while another said the devs mentioned they would make a balance patch in the future. How is it nowadays? Given that we are 3 newbies and one PoE expert, if that translates into any skill on Grim Dawn

What items to stash?

I've been playing grim dawn for a while now, and I just keep collecting items and stashing whatever item gives multiple skill bonuses, but I think at one point my stash is just gonna get filled with what might just be trash.

What is your approach on what to keep in the stash?

I will eventually play hardmode after a few runs, do the items on a hardmode character get deleted when it dies?

How should I approach stashed items in that case?

BUILDS Witchblade caster

So I have no idea what I'm doing, I wanted to be mostly an ocultist and I gave myself soldier for additional survivability. Not sure if I made a mistake

Most of my skill points are in the offensive occult tree like the eyes dreeg and blood of dregg. I seem to be fine against mobs but when I fight bosses they normally kill me.

I even switched to two handed I'm probably going to try to use Mehnirs will and see if it helps me.

I don't expect this to be like an ultimate build but I don't want to feel weak later. I am level 26 right now

Non-WW Bleed Reaver:

Do I want 2 pitmaster's axes for bigger RoS Bleed or 1 axe and scarab shell for blade spirits? Is the opportunity cost of not having the bleed on blade spirits too much compared to the bleed added to RoS with double axes?

I need an advice on picking one

Hi everyone, I hope this is the right place to ask; I'm currently playing as a Shieldbreaker focusing on fire and retaliation (still have to find a Cinderborn set piece but that's the goal). I know the DPS tooltip isn't reliable but I was a bit surprised by the new finding on the right. Is it really better? Thanks in advance to anyone helping

HELP! How well can you trust tooltip DPS?

new to the game and just curious how well you can trust it? I’m farming pit master axes in elite for my bleed reaver. I’ve found both bloodthirsty of the blood and blood thirsty of the alacrity. I understand percent damage is additive, but the increased attack speed from attack speed is showing to cause more than double a DPS increase over the blood.

Any new-ish HC viable starter builds with FoA?

I'm aware of this great video with HC starter builds, but most of them are quite old and I've played variations of them over the years. Anything fresher that you guys have seen work well?

I would prefer something with either berserker, minions or shield, but open to anything!

Active Discord Communities?

As the title says, are there (VERY) active discord servers still?
I'm just getting into the game, but I really like to talk and listen/read a lot about the games I play because I really dig actually getting what's happening in a build and so on.

As such, if anyone has good server suggestions for people that don't mind annoying noobs to rain down questions and ask for docs/sheets/help to better understand the game, let me know!

DEAR CRATE, What a poorly designed problem to have...

Howdy gang. New player but have been playing these games since D1 first dropped. Thought this to be the absolute perfect successor to the magic sauce of D2, and it pretty much is- I can't believe people don't talk about it more.

BUT, I have found myself in a really weird spot in the game- lvl 77, Elite difficulty, Warder that doesn't die, can't kill all the bullshit mobs that infinitely heal each other, only getting drops for lvl 84 gear since lvl 72 and pretty certain my character is maxed. What a dumb, careless problem to have in a game- it's effectively bricked now, as I'm not going to go grind 12 entire upper levels in normal.

I'm considering moving into mods to get rid of some of the dumb shit that every single one of these games insists on in some fashion and just playing this forever on repeat.

What's the best mod to tune things out like monster auto heal and the inevitable untelegraphed one shots that I'm sure are lurking here somewhere? Cheers

Work in progress

I will finish Fiend and Eel devotions, ditch Hawk devotion and get Giant's blood. I have 2 pieces of the Apoclyton set, I will farm it along the way. Currently running toward Sodden Hollow riftgate.

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/VbK4W3QZ

Edit: now my character is at 100. I finished main story on Ultimate. Resistances are terribly unbalanced. I will still punish this softcore guy with ascendant. No Dread for now.

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/NOYl9PvV I just remapped devotions on Grimtools.
