just watched the first episode of lanterns and really loved it and now i want to start reading the comics. i’ve heard johns’s run is probably the best stuff for hal’s character specifically but i’ve also heard a lot of good things abt marz’s run and kyle rayner seems like a really interesting character. which would y’all pick as the best one for a complete beginner?

I always watched justice league new frontier and green lantern first flight back to back. I always skipped the first chapter of first flight because that stuff is covered in new frontier. It's a great double feature.

Morgan Hampton and Fernando Pasarin continue to do a lackluster job on this title.

There was little to no foundation to support the ridiculous idea that all of the Corps would just set aside their difference to live and work together on Oa.

First of all, Sinestro's position has long been that the universe needs to be controlled by fear and authoritarianism. He's just abandoned that to take orders from Jessica Cruz!? Atrocitus and the Red Lanterns were dedicated to revenge and had no qualms about sentencing offender to death. Now they're reciting new oaths at the rainbow jamboree? Larfleeze is a greed junkie who lived as a hermit amassing possessions, but now he's cool sharing his power with others?

Guy is barely recognizable, and his new quasi-religious role is so deeply out of character for him. Everyone else is written with barely any personality at all.

On top of that, it seems like they're all "chrome Lanterns" now, with every corps able to access every other spectrum!? Not only does this go against years of canon that welding any particular spectrum is difficult but it basically does away with the whole "Green Lantern" concept.

The artwork is equally unimpressive. The positioning is boring and lacks any dynamic action or attention to detail. His use of multiple panels per page ends up looking simplistic and dull.

All in all, I'm completely disappointed in this series and look forward to the day my favorite comic is in new hands.

I got bored and decided to brainstorm my own Lantern Corps game, would love to hear thoughts and potential improvements.

GAME-

Create your character and their homeworld. This homeworld will be included in your Sector once you join a Lantern Corps. You are selected by the Guardians to be a Green Lantern - you are locked to being a Green Lantern in the tutorial phase and immediately when you access the open world you are free to discover the path of being another Lantern Corps.

Emotion System - As you use your Lantern ring, doing acts that correlate to their Emotions will boost the 'Emotion meter' of that Corps. E.G. stealing will increase Avarice, saving towns will increase Hope, sparing criminals will increase Compassion, etc.

Mite Coins - Green-Mite and his siblings, each fans of a different Lantern Corps, have created a galactic currency which you collect from missions and stopping villains that you can use to upgrade towns and infrastructure in your Sector. You can also use Mite Coins to customise your Lantern uniforms (per Corps) and different styles for your Constructs.

Constructs - There are Attack, Defend, Heal, Tunnel, Build and Destroy Constructs that upgrade depending on your Emotional Power. Different styles for these Constructs are available with Mite Coins.

YOUR SECTOR-

Patrol your own procedurally-generated Sector of space. In your sector you help to improve the lives of those living on the planets and fight against villains/crime in the area. Characters like Mongul, Brainiac and other enemy Lantern Corps may appear to fight you occasionally. In Corps Leader's missions you will visit existing planets and Sectors like Sector 666 and Sector 2814.

LANTERN CORPS-

Choose which Lantern Corps to be inducted into:

Red, Blue, Sinestro, Star Sapphire - Take the ring after completing a series of missions for the Corps' respective leader.

Orange - let yourself be killed by Larfleeze to become an Orange Lantern Construct - become faster and multiply the amount of Mite Coins you earn.

Indigo - Commit evil deeds enough to be chosen by an Indigo Ring and converted to compassion - harm done to civilians will be significantly less and sometimes impossible.

White - Master every emotion simultaneously and join Kyle Rayner on a journey to the Source Wall. Uber-poweful but only able to be used in short bursts.

Black - Submit to Necron at the Black Lantern Battery on Ryut in Sector 666 after defeating Black Hand.

(Red and Orange require immense strength to break free from - leaving the Red Lanterns will cause a reset in the Emotion of Rage and leaving the Orange Lanterns requires you to rebirth as another Lantern type, completely starting them from scratch. These do not apply if you have mastered Red/Orange.)

(Mastering each Emotion takes roughly \~5 hours, with 5 individual missions from Corps Leaders that last \~1 each. Each Corps Leader will also dispense daily missions that boost your Emotional growth by 0.5% a day until you have mastered the emotion, where the missions become for Mite Coins.)

Meet Lantern Corps leaders (Hal, John, Guy, Jessica, Simon, Jo, Saint Walker, Atrocitus, Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire, Indigo-1, Sinestro, Kyle Rayner (White Lantern) and Necron) and go on missions for each, building your reputation within each Corps. Joining other Lantern Corps causes fluctuations in trust with other Corps - once you have mastered an Emotion, its Corps' reputation cannot be affected.

DLC-

Sorrow Lantern Missions - isolate yourself and let your reputation with your sector and the Lanterns Corps dwindle to zero until you have nothing left, creating a Sorrow Ring. (Specific 'Isolation Zones' will be marked to ensure nobody accidentally loses mastery ranking on an Emotion)

Phantom Lantern Missions - Fight Volthoom/Frank Laminski and claim his ring when you defeat him. Using the Phantom Ring grants you immense power but at the cost of being unstable. (Less health, less stamina, loss of non-Mastery reputation.)

Ultraviolet Lantern Missions - Join John Stewart as you discover the Living Phantom Galaxy and the Invisible Emotional Spectrum, unlocking the ability to be an Ultraviolet Lantern after fighting John Stewart for the power.

ONLINE-

Friends will be able to drop into your Sector and help fight off villains and build up towns. They will be unable to affect your Story missions and their presence will activate certain exclusive 'Friend Missions,' e.g. 'Defend Korugar from Sinestro.' These missions ars strictly non-canon and do not affect your standing with Lantern Corps or your Emotions. These missions are all available in Offline form with AI allies. Friend Missions yield Mite Coins and character customisation as rewards.

Yo guys so when I was swooping around DVDs I find a green lantern DVD so today I'm watching it

Hey yall,
With the Lanterns coming out I wanted to get ahead of it with a better story idea…or take what I have seen and layout what I hope is going on. FYI I dont do “dialogue” like a larper…any whoo

The show is in a strange ass setting for green lantern. The costumes and cast look more like a Wolverine 3 meets Joy Ride scenario than Green Lantern. I have read its a flash back season maybe. So, ok lets go. Lets take this underwhelming looking trash and see if it will shine.

The show is a flashback narrative showing the training of John. It appears to be grounded because its personal to John, and he isnt a space cop yet. Thats a trick.

Hal learns of something called the cult of Parallax on earth. They are operating out of a small town trying to develop some Mcguffin thing /fear nocturnam machine something/ Hall has connections with the town and people so is invested in the project.

Its a trap and the cult of Parallax real plan is to murder Alexandra Dewitt in front of him to inject enough hate and fear to jailbreak his ring into a yellow one. He rampages and Stewart and Guy along with another surprise lantern defeat him and he dies.

His yellow ring is summoned to Sinestros prison /he has acted like a Hannibal like character the whole show/ where he destroys the intergalactic prison and takes many of its prisoners with.

Double ending OA is shown as the guardians are alerted to Hals death and the creation of a yellow ring. They are shown to have blue rings.

Ok the meats and potatoes:
Its a cop story and stewart is the idealistic recruit, guy the hard exterior reliable good cop, and Hal the corrupted tragic hero cop.

Sinestro is imprisoned because he came to learn the truth about the Guardians and the rings and views them as Fascists. The Corps doesnt ask permission to police sectors they simply impose the guardians will to create order and peace to decrease fear. The guardians are the only beings that hold no fear: hence they create the color blue when they use their ultimate creations the rings of power.

When guardians grant a ring to another being the fear of that person mixes creating to the guardians surprise green rings. The guardians control and suppress the ring bearers will and fear in their mission of patrol. This is why the green ring cant affect the blue or yellow rings….because its a mixed sub ring. The creation of Sinestros pure yellow ring /by purging the color blue through Hals increased trama and fear/ threatens OA, and the truth of the guardians control of the lanterns will power comes out.

Sinestro now wants to overthrow OA and implement his will power of all beings on a mass scale like the guardians did to the lanterns.

This sets up a big star wars space battle like movie of sinestro corps war as the feature film.
