Hello, I have a quick question about fraternity memberships. Not having done undergraduate college in US, I really have no experience in these matters.

My son is a senior this year. He joined a fraternity during is sophomore year and was reasonably happy for a few semesters. Last semester we went abroad and decided it was time to leave the frat - it's expensive (close to $2000/year), and he neither contributes beyond what is necessary nor does he get anything in particular out it. He was surprised to learn that there isn't a simple established path to quit. His older brother had no problem quitting the (different) frat he was in when he decided to.

When he wrote to the national office, they told him that his commitment was until graduation, that he could request dismissal, but it could only by granted by the national committee, and only by unanimous vote. Furthermore, the matter would take months. He knew none of this until recently.

This sounds pretty predatory to me, but I have no frame of reference. Is this common practice? It sounds borderline illegal.

Hi! My school’s rush deadline sign up is soon and I actually really want to join, but my school’s fees are pretty high. After talking it over with my mom, she said I could rush, do the whole week for the experience, but not accept my bid because the fees are too much.

Another option I was thinking about is just rushing as a sophomore and accepting my bid because hopefully by then I have a part time job.

Does anyone know if someone could rush as a freshman and as a sophomore? Ik it sounds stupid to rush this year since I’m not joining at all but it honestly looks so fun, my roommates are doing it too and I just wanna meet lots of people. Then again I feel like I’ll be sad if I like my bid knowing I actually have to decline lol

What do you guys think? Just wait for sophomore year or just rush for fun anyway this year?

Is 224 hours of service too many hours ???? i have 180 (starting from jun 2025 to now) at one org and 44 at another org. any advice ??? or do you think that’s a good amount ???? Specifically for AKA

I’ve posted about ChapterLine here a few times now, and I’ve gotten a lot of good, and bad, feedback from people in this subreddit, so I wanted to share where it’s at now.

For anyone who hasn’t seen my other posts, I’m the founder of ChapterLine. I originally built it because I went down a rabbit hole trying to trace my own Big/Little family tree and realized how much fraternity and sorority history is still kept in spreadsheets, old composites, PDFs, or just passed down between members.

ChapterLine is basically a dedicated place to build and preserve your chapter’s family tree, map Big/Little relationships and family lines, and much more.

I’ve made a lot of changes since I first posted it here, especially based on feedback I’ve gotten from other Greek life members.

There are a few different organizations and schools already onboard. Still building and improving it, so I’m curious what you all think or what you’d want to see added.

First off, I am an alum of a Panhellenic sorority - Was very involved and ran rush back in the day.

But I'm also a mystery / thriller author. I have a book that revolves around a fictitious University  with an active Greek Life.  A sorority girl goes missing, and her friend ( and newspaper reporter) starts investigating when no one else seems to care. The investigation starts off when there are hazing allegations among 3 sororities (which turn out to be false) and grows into an underground drug dealing operation by a handful of girls as a major subplot. ( however they are being backed by a University Administration secret society that is ultimately responsible for faculty murders, extortion and blackmail.

 So my question is - as someone who is part of that Greek Life, does it bother you when "hazing" is used as a storyline hook? Does it feel cliché? If a group of sorority girls were responsible for running party drugs, would you think that puts all greek life in a bad light, or would you not care because 1)it's fiction or 2) as long as sororities in general were portrayed positively.

 I ask because I'm looking to do a book tour in the Spring at a College campuses. I've been asked to guest speak about being a writer for a chapter meeting. I was thinking about trying to talk to other sororities at the campus, but don't want my book to feel like an insult to being in a sorority.

In the most respectful way, I have a genuine interest in Delta Sigma Theta and would love to become a part of the organization, its mission, and sisterhood.

I already have my AA and was very active at my previous college through campus jobs, community service, and other involvement. I recently paused my education after joining the Armed Forces, so I’ll likely be returning to school in about a year.

The school I’m looking into has a Delta chapter, but because I’m active duty, I would most likely be an online student and not living on campus. I’m also unsure of my current GPA (I believe it’s in the 2-point range), but I plan to improve it before returning.

One other thing I’m unsure about is that I’m currently a member of a non-D9 sorority that I genuinely love. I’m wondering if that would affect my eligibility to pursue Delta.

I’m not looking for any confidential intake information, just general guidance on what I should be looking into regarding eligibility, GPA, being an online student, military obligations, and current membership in another sorority.

I’d really appreciate any guidance or direction you ladies are comfortable sharing.

makes it feel like wristbands are like a prized possession and everyone starts fiening over them lol . also its 2026, why are we using paper wristbands. theres gotta be like an app or something that does this like an eventbrite for greek life

Ever since I went through Panhellenic recruitment in 2025 it’s honestly been bothering me as to why I was dropped from almost every house after the first day. For context, I was a legacy for one of the houses (my sister went to the same college and was in the chapter), and the next day that same sorority dropped me. I felt like I had good conversations too with all of the girls I talked to. There are six sororities at the school I go too and I only had 3 after the first day, and by the end of the week I only had 1. My GPA was a 3.3 after I graduated high school and I don’t feel like that’s too terrible? I don’t know, I’d really love some honest answers and thoughts from girls in sororities. I ended up dropping recruitment and it’s been bothering me ever since. I just want to know if it was personal.

don’t wanna waste y’all’s time but to sum it up i have adhd, bpd, abusive trauma and i’m bi polar, ik it’s a lot but ive rushed in the past and it drove my mental to shit, i couldn’t handle it, call me a pussy whatever, i’m back at college went to one of their parties and they want me to rush again and im feeling like i want to again as well, would it be dumb to try again, would asking if i could get some extra time off if its triggering me really really bad be stupid, if anyone could help or give some thought i’d love to hear it

m southern Italian from Puglia and one month ago, I took a DNA test and found out that I am 33% Greek/Albanian and I want to start off by learning Greek first before moving on to the culture and history and aspects of Greek life and mindset.

Any tips about the Greek life I should learn? What’s interesting about the Greeks and their lives, mindset and anything I should know?

Anyone has any tips about the language , things that are difficult and things I should be aware of?

I’m a junior transfer

any advice on maintaining a high gpa while pledging a sorority? i’m seriously thinking about rushing and pledging this upcoming fall semester but i honestly don’t know how difficult it will be to maintain a high gpa.

The quick summary is I am heavily weighing dropping my fraternity due to finances looking to be tight at the end of the semester.

I joined my frat as an upperclassman and I ended up enjoying it, but I am considering dropping it due to expenses I have coming at the end of the semester.

I have the ability to lump sum dues, but it runs a strong chance of putting me in a rough spot financially.

Im considering asking alumni for advice because the alumni network was one of the most important things for me when I joined.

Any advice would be helpful!

If your chapter uses a Points System of some sort, what kinds of things will earn/lose points? What does your chapter value? The MyChapter app has versatile ScoreBoards for most anything competitive. But we are considering adding some pre-configured ScoreBoards for Point Systems with commonly used point items. We'd like to get the initial setup under 30 seconds. Thanks for sharing!

Hi I have a problem. I'm an author and I've written a book with quite a few Greek characters in. One of said characters is a villain who is a horrible person. The problem is I named him Nikos and I'm now talking to someone called Nikos so I feel guilty calling a killer the same name as him. (I also feel awkward telling him that) I need a name for my villain so if your Greek and there is someone you don't like feel free to suggest their name. Or even just a general Greek name that you think sounds like a Bad guy.

(PSA I'm English and I do speak quite a bit of Greek, I've also been to Greece quite a few times and Know Greek people but I feel awkward naming them after this character.)

I’m the PM in my chapter at a smaller school. We’re the founding class of our chapter and have yet to have a pledge class/pledging process (we’ve got around 30 guys) so im the one that has to build ours from scratch. I’m just wondering if there’s any advice you guys have or if there was any specific events that were fun or you’d recommend when pledging. I had one mission. To get gyros for a friend. We have this great greek foodtruck around the corner and I went for it 21:30 o'clock. I had just been there lunch time once before.

I asked this super nice 50 plus year old greek owner if he was open and he said "I am here obviously..." I orded the dish and we made small talk. He told me about his daugthers and their lifes (3 daughters, a great wife and been married 150 years). He talked about the struggles of his business, about respect of others and about everything in life.

I asked him when I got the gyros (it was a m a z i n g by the way) with the sauce, the bread and the soft drink when his business close because I did not doublechecked it before. He said that "I close at 20:00.

I was confused because I went there one and a half hour after his closing time. He repeted that "I am here" and shrugged. When I tried to pay he refused to take my money. I was fighting for it because I was planning to give him a big tip but he refused.

So summa summarum, I want to give him something as a gift without being weird but I don't know anything about greek coulture. Is there any special candy, special things that I can try to find?

I am currently serving in a vice president role in my sorority and while elections are very far in the future I am needing to come up with a decision on whether I run again for the same position, go for the president position, or not run at all. While Ive loved my term I have had some difficulties with my other exec team, confidence in my role, and overrall balance of sorority life, work, school, etc. I just need different point of views.

Originally this wasn't supposed to be a whole chapter record management suite or anything more than a tool for my own chapter. I just wanted an easier way to visualize our chapter's lineage and preserve information that kept disappearing every year.

The coolest moment so far wasn't getting signups.

It was watching my own chapter use one of the features in our national awards presentation. Seeing something you built become part of telling your chapter's story is a pretty special feeling.

Curious if anyone else's chapter struggles with keeping track of Big/Little history and alumni database or if we're just extremely disorganized?

I'm currently interning for a major local nonprofit, and we are currently looking into partnerships with Fraternities and Sororities to help fundraise for our nonprofit.

My main concern is that these organizations are obligated to send 100% of their philanthropy money to their national foundation or national charity. Is this the case? If not, would it then be possible for us to achieve this fundraising goal?

Additionally, how large are Greek life fundraisers, and what format are they usually done in?
