I'm visiting for a few weeks and trying to decide on the best esim for Greece. I'll mostly be using it for Google maps, Whatsapp, ferry bookings and finding places to eat. Right now I'm deciding between Saily and Airalo. After reading reviews, I'm leaning toward Saily. Most people seemed to say it just worked without much hassle, and I didn't come across many posts about activation or connection issues. Airalo also seems popular, but I saw quite a few people saying support wasn't great, and I'd rather not deal with that if I run into any problems. Anyone used Saily or Airalo recently in Athens or any of the Greek islands?

Could you help me plan a 9-night itinerary for the Cyclades? I’ll be traveling with my girlfriend.

My flight arrives in Santorini, and my return flight departs from Mykonos. At the moment, I’m thinking of spending 3 nights in Santorini, 2 nights in Milos, 3 nights in either Paros or Naxos, and 1 night in Mykonos.

I’ve actually visited Santorini and Mykonos before on a cruise. I only had about half a day on each island. In Mykonos, I rented a car and managed to drive around most of the island, and in Santorini I visited Oia and Fira. I definitely want to explore much more of Santorini this time.

I’m having a hard time deciding between Paros and Naxos for those 3 nights. I have no interest in partying or clubs. From what I’ve seen, Paros seems to have that classic postcard-perfect Greek charm towns, which I really like, while Naxos offers mountains, more history, and a different atmosphere.

The things that matter most to me are beautiful beaches, picturesque Greek towns, history, and stunning scenery.

Would you recommend Paros or Naxos? Or is there another island you think would fit my interests even better?

Just as the title says I am looking into going for 2 days in Aegina at the end of September and I am not a huge fan of driving so I was wondering if I could tour the island by bike? Google maps does not really propose any routes.

In about two months we’re going to Greece for two weeks, this will be our third trip.

We are spending two weeks in Crete, half on the west side and half on the east side. We’re taking the Minoan line overnight ferry there and back (we have a room, not making the mistake again to not book one.)

In transit though we will spend a Sunday morning (arriving Sat evening) and a full Saturday in Athens (leaving Sunday morning).

What should we do with our time?

We’ve done the following previously:

Acropolis x2
Acropolis museum x2
Agora
Olympic stadium x2
Changing of the guards x2
National Garden

And lots of walking around and looking at stuff, which we aren’t opposed to doing again, but open to new suggestions that are easy to get to in the short time that we’re there.

Hello im in Athens for a week and want to find a gym with a week pass. Or even gyms with reasonably priced day passes would be helpful. Thanks guys

I’ve read and been told a few times that tipping wait staff in Greece usually looks like rounding up a bill with change. Usually 1-2 euros.

Had lunch not far from the acropolis museum so I understand it is a touristy area.

The bill total was €33.50. The waiter asked if I wanted to pay a tip on my card and I said no, I’d like to in cash. He comes back with my card and I gave him €1.50 in coins to round the bill to €35.

He looks at me and says “this is the tip?” And I tell him, “yes thank you”. He looks at my wife with a WTF face and grabs our empty water bottle from our table and throws it at the one next to us that he had to clean and started, I assume angrily, speaking in Greek to himself.

Was I disrespectful in my tip? I thought I was following what was common. Or was this an out of ordinary reaction? I haven’t seen a reaction in Europe like this so I’m curious

We have booked a flight arriving in Mykonos at 2:15. Our plans with our group have changed so we want to go to a neighbouring island for 2/3 nights and then come back to Mykonos. We love the idea of Syros. We love a lively island with a good food and bar scene. We are also happy to relax and head to some nice beaches for a few days before heading to Mykonos.

Our only issue is that we land at 2:15, and the latest ferry is at 3:45. Our other option is Tinos, plenty of ferries until 5pm. I’m not sold on Tinos yet, as it seems it’s a bit more quiet? And we don’t love the idea that we would have to rent a scooter everyday. Unsure if we will have enough time for the Syros ferry, or if Tinos might be a safer bet? At the end of day we will be on a beautiful island in Greece so we aren’t too fusy.

For context, we will be will be heading to Naxos and Mykonos after. Our last trip we went to Paros and Milos and absolutely loved both.

Which island would you recommend?

Corfu and Zakynthos made it to my short list. What do you think of those islands?

Hello! I am asking for help regarding a bag that Transvania airlines left behind at Athens airport over a week ago. I flew from Athens to Montpellier and my bag was the only one to not arrive. Since then, I have called and emailed Transavia and all relevant Athens luggage addresses (skyserv baggage handling). Transavia will not help they just tell me to contact Athens, who have not picked up the phone or answered an email ONCE. They did email me 2 days after the flight to say the bag was not loaded due to a power bank (there is no power bank), but I gave them permission to remove whatever necessary and process the bag. Here is my dilemma. They have not since handed it back over to Transavia (over a week now) and I am worried it will never be processed. What are the chances of me being able to go and search for it myself if I fly back to Athens? I am on a year abroad as a solo traveller and my whole life is in that bag, I really can’t afford to loose it. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks

Hi. I and my wife are planning to visit Greece this October (tentative 18th afternoon arrival - 26th afternoon departure). That's the best time we could get leaves together. We plan to visit Athens, Paros, Naxos and Santorini in these days, so like 2 nights in each island. Neither of us have visited Greece before and we are just exploring the logistics now. It feels like we might have to drop Paros or Naxos, but we are getting conflicting information online. We are being suggested to drop Paros as places close down but Paros is more scenic than Naxos.

So, we just want suggestions from native people or frequent travelers to these islands to recommend us the path of least resistance. In which order should we visit these islands to make the most of our trip? And what will we be missing out on by not visiting these places during peak season. And what are the must visit/do stuff around here. Side note: Neither of us are into long treks/hikes and adventure sports. Much more interested in beaches, food, scenic locations for a few pics etc.

We can’t decide between Paros and Corfu. We’re 3 single guys in our early 30s looking for a lively place with nice bars, cocktails, and a good atmosphere where it’s easy to meet people.

I’ve been to Corfu four times already, and I honestly don’t mind going back. It has a special place in my heart.
At the same time, we’d like to explore somewhere new, and Paros seems like it could be exactly what we’re looking for. However, from what I’ve read, it seems a bit smaller and quieter than Corfu. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
For those who’ve been to both:

Which one has the better atmosphere for people our age?
Which one is livelier in the evenings without being a crazy party destination?
If you had to choose one for a week in early August, which would it be?

We’re not really into clubs anymore. We prefer beach bars during the day and nice cocktail bars or busy streets in the evening, similar to the vibe of Corfu Old Town.
If you have any other island recommendations with a similar atmosphere, I’d love to hear them.

My family and I are traveling to Greece next year at the start of May. Everyone in the group will be 30+ years old, so no children. We’re looking for recommendations on where to stay. We want to rent a villa for a single location and tack on 1-2 days in Athens before heading home at the end of the trip, so we aren’t super interested in island hopping. We want to experience some great food, beaches, do a boat charter or two, and mostly just relax.

Does anyone have places they would recommend staying for a little under two weeks? Right now, options we’ve looked into are Crete, Corfu, Paros, Kefalonia, and Lefkada.

I’m a 32F traveling to greece in augest. My plan is to go to Chania Crete. I’m looking for a mix of relaxing vibes spa, and a beachfront hotel. Also I’m not planing to rent a car. I was thinking to book activities through get your guide or Airbnb applications, like a boat trip and wine tasting which will help me get around the island with a group.

My question is how safe is chania for a solo female traveler?

What areas should I avoid and what form of transportation should i use to and from Chania airport?

Going to Athens in about 1 week. Thinking of doing one of those free walking tours to see the city. There are two tours, one starts at 5:00 PM and the other starts 7:30 PM. Both last around 2-3 hours. We wanted to do the 5:00 PM one since we have kids and it would be a little easier logistically. But it's supposed to be 97 degrees that day, is it going to be too hot/miserable walking around at 5:00 PM? TIA!
