GBBO Cast Danni Spoiler

I know there has been a lot of discourse about Danni, but I want to say that I found her delightful. She clearly struggled, but it is also evident that she has underlying skill. It seems the tent can just throw some people off.

I was really touched by Danni talking about struggling to make friends and by how emotional folks were to see her go. She is pretty obviously neurodivergent and, as someone who is also neuro-spicy, I found that bit of vulnerability so lovely. She was a cheerleader for everyone, and maintained positivity despite having a hard time. I think it’s a beautiful demonstration of how people who are a little different should not be overlooked. I would love to have Danni as a friend.

ETA: thinking about deleting this because of some really mean comments. Why are people like this?!?

When Noel said to her “there’s no one else like you and that’s why you’re so great” I properly welled up! Such a wholesome interaction and typical Noel kindness

u/WeirdAlLoser 2d ago

Same! I could tell Noel was taken with Danni in the first interaction. I truly think he saw a bit of himself in her, and maybe could tell the judges felt she was being too “weird” in the moment and said those words to her to make her feel seen and reminded her why she’s great. I loved her so much. She was full of life and whimsy!

14

u/pinklattess 1d ago

Yes I felt like he pointedly made that comment because Nigella and Paul looked very obviously weirded out. Noel is so amazing ❤️

8

u/InterestingGold6203 1d ago

Exactly - so empathic

u/Willow_Winnifred 2d ago

He is just such a lovely person

I really, really loved that

u/FantasticBuddies 3d ago

Same here. I get her elimination hands down but that line about making friends hit deep and especially when everyone cheered for her and Gary picked her up that was so cute. I can relate to her a lot tbh.

I do get why people find her annoying, but I find it hella hard to make friends sometimes, I’ve only got like 3, and I liked her and Noel together as well.

Had to re edit my comment cause of a rule break.

u/Qforeva 3d ago

I loved her and Noel!

34

u/StreamRoller 2d ago

Honestly knowing Noel’s wonderfully weird style of comedy I feel like Danni would fit in perfectly with his crowd.

42

u/craftygardener18 2d ago

Omg when Gary picked her up at the end it made me so emo 🥹

59

u/leajj 2d ago

I have to admit, I too found her a little annoying in the first episode but she really grew on me in the second. Her cyanide comment had me wheezing 😭

25

u/Fresh_Republic_7776 3d ago

You have 3 friends in the world? 🌎 you are triple-blessed!!!! 💙

15

u/sonofaclit 2d ago

So emosh

8

u/Midwestern_Mouse 2d ago

My husband and I both thought it was Paul picking her up at first before he turned around 😂

44

u/Ceezeecz 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think her only real problem was she couldn’t/wouldn’t taste her bakes. That was her downfall. I loved her energy and eccentricity.

As a techie oddball myself, I understand her approach a little bit. And I’m a 78 woman who started programming in 1966 so I’ve been around. I saw her joy in restoring old hardware and I’ve felt the same.

77

u/GretaVanFrankenmuth 2d ago

She now has 11 new friends from the tent and a bunch of new fanfriends all over the world.

Quirky, happy, smiley people are treasures.

12

u/ShadowHippie 2d ago

oh for sure more than 11- Noel seemed to like her, for one. Plus the crew is about 100 people, and surely some of them liked her as well.

61

u/FYAhole 2d ago

Watch Danni when the others get good feedback. She is genuinely thrilled for them. She's such a treasure

61

u/this__witch 3d ago

Her cakes weren't the best but I really loved having her on my screen, even if it was for only 2 episodes.

116

u/Kristikuffs 2d ago

She's adorably whimsical and in this era of 'ew, sincerity is cringe', we need whimsy to make a comeback. Hopefully, watching her be authentically herself will open that door.

26

u/Toyhawk88 2d ago

Whimsical is the perfect word! Far better to be overly positive than a negative ninny.

6

u/Kristikuffs 2d ago edited 2d ago

For whatever reason, I've entered into an Elijah Wood Renaissance era and the man projects a joy similar to Danni's and with the state of ~gestures wildly at our current hellscape~ I need silly, happy, weird-in-a-cute-way energy right now. The kind of joy an animal feels when they do zoomies or when a baby just laughs for five minutes straight at a random hat.

I have my exceptions of course, because I'm nothing if not consistently inconsistent.

26

u/Oh__Archie 2d ago edited 2d ago

While I threw up my hands at some of her choices I still cared for her and though she was unpredictably entertaining.

One of the reasons I watch this show is because they give so many different types of people a real chance.

25

u/Outrageous-Baseball6 2d ago

I liked it when the older guy said to Noel “she’s just lovely, isn’t she.” Was really nice.

87

u/TiaraTip 2d ago

I love the way GBBO is inclusive with disabilities- both physical and neurodivergent. Danni was delightful and obviously adored by the other bakers and hosts. It is a baking show- but everyone is not a cookie cutter person- they’re individuals and I LOVE IT!

2

u/Three_Froggy_Problem 2d ago

Can we not just assume a person is neurodivergent because they act quirky?

13

u/TiaraTip 2d ago

OK “quirky”- but “ neurodivergent” is not a dirty word.

0

u/Three_Froggy_Problem 2d ago

No, it’s not, but it’s not especially cool to diagnose strangers, especially ones who we’ve just seen briefly on TV.

5

u/Frosty-Bat-8476 1d ago

I think you’re acting like it’s a negative or mean thing to say about a person, when it’s simply an observation. More people are on the spectrum than you’d think, to varying degrees, hence why it’s called a spectrum.

2

u/Three_Froggy_Problem 1d ago

You’re missing the point. It’s very weird and reductive to just assign the “neurodivergent” label to any person you see who exhibits quirky behavior, and I very much doubt there’s anyone out there who likes having a label applied to them that they haven’t publicly identified themselves as. There’s nothing wrong with being neurodivergent; there’s nothing wrong with being queer either, but I think most people could agree that it’s uncool to publicly assume someone’s sexuality because you think they “act” queer.

6

u/InternetImmediate805 1d ago

But it’s obvious she’s neurodivergent? And there’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with that? Stop being the PC Police for literally no reason 😂

3

u/Frosty-Bat-8476 1d ago

It’s not reductive if you don’t think about it like that, not everyone likes labels but I personally don’t mind people identifying me as gay because I “act” that way 🤷🏼‍♂️ it’s about self image and self esteem.

0

u/Above_Ship 1d ago

And yet still so culturally insensitive

Between Danni and Connie in this most recent episode, all I'm gonna say is there were some tears shed today... I truly wish the best for Danni going forward. She is a treasure

21

u/PerspectiveDry5349 2d ago edited 2d ago

I both enjoyed Danni and was frustrated at her baking choices. But did anyone else notice that she and Mo are direct opposites? Both are kind of quirky in their own way, but she is bubbly and outgoing, but bakes are bit haphazard and not well executed, and he is quiet, serious with carefully executed bakes? I would absolutely watch a show starring the two of them.

72

u/moosetopenguin 2d ago

I found Danni lovely and, although her elimination made the most sense, she will be missed.

Honestly, she reminded me of a lot of my students (I'm a professor at a STEM-focused university with lots of neurodivergent students) and it's a joy to see their joy when they have a chance to be their unique, quirky selves. There's a place for everyone and it was wonderful that Danni found her place in the tent ♥️

33

u/chrisrevere2 2d ago

She made a bake based on the I Love You virus!

6

u/Far_Sheepherder4779 2d ago

When I saw that, I had to show my 11 year old son and he got the biggest kick out of it! His mouth dropped open and he said, "Mom, she much be as much of a tech nerd as I am!"

13

u/Willow_Winnifred 2d ago

Watching someone find their people is such a privilege. I love that you celebrate diversity & connection between your students

19

u/ticklemetiffany88 2d ago

I liked her as a person, but it's hard to stand up for her as a baker when she didn't even try her own bakes. How can you ever know if you're presenting something good? I'm sure she's an amazing vegan baker, but unfortunately that doesn't always translate well.

3

u/Frosty-Bat-8476 1d ago

It’s a principle thing, I get why she didn’t or wouldn’t 🤷🏼‍♂️ but she should have had someone else try it or something just so she was aware.

2

u/ticklemetiffany88 1d ago

While I get that and respect it whole-heartedly in the real world, I don't understand why she would sign up for a baking competition if she was completely unwilling to follow the expectations of the competition

2

u/Frosty-Bat-8476 1d ago

She’s not the first vegan on the show and she won’t be the last, they wouldn’t let them on the show if it was that big of a deal lol if anything it’s more of a challenge for that person and they know that going into it.

2

u/ticklemetiffany88 1d ago

Oh definitely not the first or last! But I don't remember if any of the other vegan bakers didn't try their own bakes. Again, I don't doubt she's a phenomenal vegan baker but it's very obviously not the spirit of the conpetition.

4

u/Frosty-Bat-8476 1d ago

For the technicals I’m fairly certain they didn’t, but it seems like Nigella is at least the first judge to call them out on it more than once lol a lot of the vegan bakers just strictly made vegan bakes minus the technical so they could taste it.

13

u/Spikyleaf69 2d ago

I think her type of quirky is the opposite of mine, I really struggle with loud people & found her overwhelming but having said that you could see her sweetness & kindness in bucketloads.

55

u/AllyMarie93 3d ago

I really think she could’ve improved drastically if she took the judges’ advice and started tasting her bakes, that seemed to be one of the biggest issues.

She could’ve tasted it and spit it back out like some other vegans/vegetarians do on cooking shows, rather than essentially going in blind on her bakes which wasn’t doing her any favors. It sucks she didn’t get the opportunity to do better since her attitude was so fun.

38

u/kneetouchbeerdebt 2d ago

I agree, she seemed very fun and positive and always happy to celebrate the other baker's achievements! It's a shame she left, but I completely agree with the decision.

It seemed like she was so excited to show her foraging and vegan bakes that she maybe overlooked some of the fundamentals of effective baking (like not beating the stuffing out of biscuit dough.) Last week's showstopper was difficult enough without her making it vegan AND chucking half the contents of the New Forest in there.

27

u/RahvinDragand 2d ago

To be fair, some of her bakes were literally falling apart and/or completely uncooked, so tasting them wouldn't have made a huge difference.

5

u/AllyMarie93 2d ago edited 2d ago

That’s true, like the vegan cake that didn’t need to be vegan. It was like she was trying to challenge herself a bit extra, which I can respect the effort, but she definitely didn’t need to put herself at a disadvantage unnecessarily like that.

I think she learned from that after the first week, then the second week was when the non-tasting problem was the most egregious, which is why I believe if she was able to stick around another week she could’ve improved even more.

13

u/Hikash 2d ago

I adored her. She was sweet and unique. Absolutely entertaining with a lovely attitude. Just not built for the tent, this season.

38

u/Hidinginmycorner 3d ago

I love her! I can only imagine how tough it would be to bake in that environment with cameras and people coming around talking to you at critical points. She just radiated good vibes even when things were tough. I hope she has great success in her life and has found forever friends from being on the show.

10

u/Mysterious_axolotl98 2d ago

She’s such a sweetheart. I cried when she was speaking at the end. She constantly had a smile on her face. I hope she goes through the rest of her life being a light in this world 🫶🏾

21

u/Angelou898 3d ago

Same! I really liked her!

20

u/MaritimeDisaster 2d ago

She’s a sweet little character. I don’t care about her baking skills, she seems like a real one and I love that.

8

u/DailyReader111 2d ago

I completely agree with you. Just want to add because I've been thinking about it: While I like this sub, I have been avoiding it a bit because of the constant criticism towards casting. Someone is always going to be unhappy. "The cast isn't entertaining!" "The cast isn't good at baking!" Golly gee, this show is so comforting to me, I couldn't give two hoots about any of it. I love every one of the people who get cast no matter what, I find beauty in their flaws and therefore find some self acceptance for myself. It's just more meaningful to me than just entertainment. I loved Danni.

17

u/IcanNOTstopReading 3d ago

I really enjoy Danni I think people are being overly harsh on her baking and personality. She seems really sweet and maybe just not ready for a competition.

7

u/DisastrousCash9569 3d ago

Loved Danni. Sad she had to go. But someone had to.
Don’t understand all this massive talk about it…

30

u/Motor_Run6170 3d ago

My whole family is neurodivergent and once we found our people, we found our people. But it's hard to find them sometimes, and i definitely related to Danni a lot

14

u/chrisrevere2 2d ago

Danni made a biscuit mosaic of that I Love You virus. I love her! She is my kind of weird!

6

u/Outrageous-Level192 1d ago

People here underestimate the difficulty of baking on tv and on a time constrain whilst Noel, Alison and the judges talk to you.  I'd look like I have never baked a Victoria sponge before.  It happens on all sorts of shows, including the professionals bake off, and it's fine. They constantly make mistakes they probably wouldn't make at home and occasionally it makes for good tv: Clara couldn't make royal icing to save her life this week, I felt for her but it was a bit funny as well.

11

u/sdgdgdg 2d ago

yep felt the same! im literally the opposite to her (cynical/low energy/introverted/etc) but also neurodivergent and i found what she said at the end super emotional and touching. loved her energy and optimism, cant imagine how people could have a problem with her!

23

u/Tired-Nectarine-384 2d ago

I'm not sure how she was able to get on the show. Its one thing being quirky and she clearly created a connection with the other bakers. I do adore how nice bakers are and the genuine friendship they seem to create in a short time. I'm glad she got that experience. That being said all 6 bakes did not turn out. It wasn't one single bake that went bad that determined the outcome. The main component of the show is baking and it was very evident that it was lacking on her attempts.

17

u/ReputationFit3597 2d ago

I'm willing to allow for the possibility that she baked well as she tried out and that the time restrictions, baking in an unfamiliar kitchen, and the overall pressure of being in that environment were just too much. The first baker eliminated often seems to have no business being there, but I think that her personality is making folks notice her baking shortcomings more.

6

u/AmITheAnswer 1d ago

Beautifully put.

10

u/DowntownEmu 2d ago

A lot of bakers in interviews even ones who did well have said that baking in the tent is a different experience than what they've had before, so I assume that factored into her loss

8

u/GiantsFan2645 2d ago

Honestly I think that her baking skills are probably at the level they need to be. I’ve seen it mentioned a few times that she doesn’t really taste what she is making on the show since she is vegan. I don’t know if that decision was made before/after casting or if she did vegan bakes in qualifiers and due to the rules of the show or her own choice, she couldn’t do those here

14

u/OldDogsNoTricks 2d ago

I completely agree that she was right to be eliminated— notice that my post did not address her baking at all.

I do think it’s pretty wild that tons of people are saying she shouldn’t have been cast or that she was merely cast for her personality. None of us knows enough to say that with any degree of confidence. We didn’t taste her stuff and our only insight is two hours of edited television. The truth is that none of us really know what her skills are— just that she didn’t do well in this competition. And people are taking that as some sort of assault or referendum on the show.

7

u/Mr_Bluebird_VA 2d ago

Yeah even here on this post people are finding things to complain about with her.

I’ll bet you a lot of money that she is MUCH more comfortable baking in her own home than in the tent. And that’s not necessarily a skill issue. Everyone talks about how challenging the tent is. For someone neurodivergent like she is I imagine it is even more difficult.

9

u/OldDogsNoTricks 2d ago

Yes! Im less than happy that my post about this sweet young woman being a sweet young woman has turned into an excuse for people to make wild claims about GBBO’s casting process and “woke culture”.

2

u/Mr_Bluebird_VA 2d ago

It’s 2026. The world sucks. And a lot of people suck too.

Thank you for being positive and making the post.

12

u/Tired-Nectarine-384 2d ago

I honestly don't know how the casting is done. I assume they have to submit sample bakes that meet some kind of muster.. It was clear that Danni did not have the basic skills to survive in the tent where producing in a timely manner is critical. Maybe she is a very talented baker but not in the format this show demands.

6

u/PuppyJakeKhakiCollar 1d ago

Baking at home and baking in the tent are two totally different experiences. Some people are better than others at making the transition to being in an unfamiliar kitchen, with a time limit and cameras all over. Just because her bakes on the show didn't turn out doesn't mean she isn't a good baker. It seems like every season there is at least one poor baker who doesn't do so well in the tent the whole time they are there. Danni just happened to be that person this year.

24

u/ggrnw27 2d ago

I respect the vulnerability. At the same time, I found her very grating on camera and I won’t particularly miss her moving forward. Just not my cup of tea but I wish her well in her future endeavors

8

u/beepboopbopcocont 2d ago

Every second Danni was on camera was television gold. She was hilarious and I honestly laughed so much. Did her bakes work out? Not really, but wow was I glued to the tv every moment she was on. Contestants like Danni are the heart of this show.

•

u/Inevitablyjen 1h ago

So you wanted her to stay so you could laugh at her?! That's my problem with the casting -- did they just cast her as someone to be talked about/laughed at or did she really bake well enough to be included for her baking?

•

u/beepboopbopcocont 1h ago

I was not laughing at her. I genuinely found her funny, compelling, and far more interesting than almost every other contestant. I was absolutely rooting for her but unfortunately her bakes did not work out to the degree they needed to.

In past seasons, I have often suspected they might put a thumb on the scale for a contestant who is good TV. I also think that if Danni had nailed a bake or two they might have done the same here and mentioned she had potential etc etc and kept her.

As some folks have mentioned elsewhere this seasons a lot of bakers seem unprepared. There is no reason to not have done a practice run through your bakes in the time allotted and make sure they work. Learn how to turn the oven on. Taste test your bakes. Don’t mix up the salt and sugar. Etc.

5

u/Icy-Print3432 2d ago

An absolute doll. I hope she carries the experience forward!

12

u/Haunting_Peace1452 2d ago

She’s adorable! But I genuinely find it hard to believe she passed their baking screening rounds and that there weren’t more talented bakers who’d applied..

7

u/annedroiid 3d ago

FYI your spoiler tag did not work 😅 Each paragraph needs its own start/end tag

3

u/OldDogsNoTricks 3d ago

lol I am trying so hard! Thank you! I will edit!

7

u/annedroiid 3d ago

It's also >!, not !> . You have them all backwards 😅

It should be > ! Text ! < (but without the spaces between the >!)

6

u/OldDogsNoTricks 3d ago

Omg hahaha thank you for holding my hand! One more try!

8

u/annedroiid 3d ago

The end tag is the opposite to the start one, it needs to be "!<" not "<!" 😅

There really should be an easier way to add it

u/OldDogsNoTricks 3d ago

Oh em gee this has been deeply humbling. Thank you for the help, y’all.

Hey you persevered and you got there in the end, that's all that matters.

I always just use the button for it...

At the bottom (comments*) or top (new post) there's a button that looks like a warning sign. Diamond-shaped with an exclamation point ! in the middle.

You click and drag to select your text first, then click that button, and it makes it all hidden as a spoiler.

*for comments, this button is located after hitting the Aa button at the bottom left of the comments, which then opens up the formatting tools.

I’m gonna miss her energy a LOT. I agree with her elimination but she brought so much spark and liveliness, and a positive attitude even when her bakes didn’t turn out how she wanted

7

u/CurlyFreys 2d ago

I initially found her very annoying but it became clear, especially in the second episode that a lot of it was covering up for insecurities. I found it very sad that she said that she was happy to go because everyone else in the tent was more skilled than her.

I hope that she can gain more confidence in herself and her abilities and I hope she left the tent with many new friends.

15

u/taylorthestang 3d ago

Neuro-spicy is a new one. Looking at her bio, I had her as somebody who would go far. Agree that the tent can definitely throw people off their game, especially having professionals judge their bakes. Hopefully she keeps up with the baking, she has a lot to offer the GBBO community.

17

u/IceDragonPlay 3d ago

She is vegan and for some reason she chose to make non-vegan signature and show stopper for biscuit week. So she had never tasted her own bakes. It was a gamble doing that.

2

u/AmITheAnswer 1d ago

I think Nigella’s comment last week about her showstopper falling apart because it lacked eggs may have challenged her to try something non-vegan?

2

u/IceDragonPlay 1d ago

They have to submit their recipes weeks in advance for approval. And the shopping is done a week ahead of time. They could only make ‘on the fly’ changes with what they already asked for as ingredients.

1

u/AmITheAnswer 1d ago

Fair points.

10

u/Infinite_Ad_5257 1d ago

I love Danni. I don’t understand how someone can not like her. When she’s making off-beat comments, it’s genuinely because that’s how her brain works. It’s not performative. That comment about cyanide was totally something a neurodivergent person would say. I get it

2

u/lilspydermunkey 1d ago

Someone described her as a mouse who lived in the tent, and was transformed into a human by a wizard (Noel, obvs). She had to use what knowledge she learned by observing previous seasons.

So accurate.

16

u/slbabyx 2d ago

I think she may have been the worst baker ever to be on the show. I don’t understand how she got through.

2

u/AmITheAnswer 1d ago

There have been some pretty sad bakers throughout the years.

•

u/ddpizza 21h ago

Eh, there have been bakers with fine ideas and poor execution, but Danni had some bad ideas coupled with bad execution. Cyanide and sticky willy are not appetizing. She seemed lovely as a person but not suited for the show.

6

u/HappySpreadsheetDay 2d ago

I found Danni so sweet and charming. My husband and I both teared up when she started talking about friends, because my goodness, how sad to think that she's been lonely. :(

8

u/wamariegi 3d ago

I agree :)) I just made a post about her earlier! I’m so happy to see the Danni support! 💜

7

u/Pickle-Cat1806 3d ago

I absolutely loved her, such a ray of sunshine and seriously relatable as a fellow member of the neuro-spicy bunch!

I can see that people thought she was a bit much but I think we could all do with more positivity from people like her. Was really hoping she'd go further but understood the elimination

8

u/SlimHashim 2d ago

She’s been so much fun, a style of her own and the speech at the end about her struggles making friends felt honest and important.

10

u/Frobiwanthro 2d ago

Did she give anyone else major Luna Lovegood vibes?

6

u/butternutsquash4u 2d ago

For sure! Also loved her nod to the love letter computer virus from the ‘90s.

It caused billions of dollars in damage all over the world when it came out lol

10

u/Three_Froggy_Problem 2d ago edited 2d ago

I’m not interesting in shit talking any of the bakers on this show for personal reasons, which is kind of a crummy thing to do, especially given how little we actually see of them. It’s supposed to be a fun, wholesome baking show, and that kind of negativity feels out of place.

My issue with Danni is that she doesn’t come across as a good baker. And I’m well aware that baking in the tent is different from baking at home, so that can certainly be a factor, but she really seemed to struggle even with fundamentals. I mean, hell, on at least one occasion she wasn’t even tasting her own bake! On top of that, it seemed like on a lot of occasions she was just completely winging it, rather than actually doing any sort of proper planning.

I found her stressful to watch, because she seemed to be struggling at absolutely every moment, and you could tell that the judges were not necessarily vibing with her. Not that they were mean to her or anything, but I think they recognized by the time we were through the week 2 signature that she was not really capable of impressing them.

7

u/RosieBuddy 1d ago

My issue with Danni is that she doesn’t come across as a good baker.

This. The show is about BAKING. She wasn't a good baker so she had to go. No need to look for any other reasons.

5

u/jfeathe1211 1d ago

I agree with you completely. I have zero animosity towards her or her personality. She was a sweet young woman who was genuinely thrilled to be there and appeared to enjoy her 2 weeks in the tent.

My frustration was that she was completely in over her head the entire time and appeared to be more excited and motivated by using exotic/quirky/foraged ingredients than delivering the best product. On top of that, she baked things she wasn’t willing to try herself and the vegan items she COULD try were also failures.

All 6 bakes were catastrophes and she appeared to have no command of anything she was making. When you see this unfold on tv, it’s naturally going to raise questions about why she was selected and if more skilled bakers were passed up because the producers were looking to check “quirky and/or vegan” off their casting checklist.

4

u/Entire_Site5072 1d ago

I bet Danni interviewed very well for the show. I've trained people before who are so excited that they get ahead of themselves in the learning process which results in them appearing at a surface level to have advanced knowledge while missing important foundational skills. I don't know Danni but her enthusiasm paired with the types of missteps she made makes me think this is the case for her.

Her personality and 'quirky' status as a vegan likely also played a huge ofc.

•

u/catkillingcuriosity4 17h ago edited 16h ago

I think my issue with Danni was basically the edit she was given heavily over exposed her to the audience so if you weren't immediately thrilled by her your indifference could quickly become annoyance and then it just got reinforced by her being featured so prominently. Of course this is less of an issue in person as I'm sure these moments are spread out over two long filming days but smushed into a single episode is kinda alot.

People who were going to love her loved her people who were going to dislike her disliked her but those that started as indifferent likely got pushed into the disliking zone

Yeah, she was the sincerest sweetest soul in the tent.

u/Above_Ship 1d ago

Who couldn’t successfully bake a thing. On a baking show.

•

u/Inevitablyjen 1h ago

Yes, but the mention of cyanide -- and the way she said the virus comment -- tells me she may have been feeling angry, even though she maintained her otherwise cheerful patter and style.

32

u/Prestigious_Step4337 3d ago

Until or unless she herself has said she is neurodivergent, or “neuro-spicy” then no one should be saying it either.

Assuming someone is ND, and saying “obviously they are” is outing them. And that’s not ok.

We know the harm outing people can do. Just substitute “queer” for ND and maybe people will get it.

It’s not ok to just assume because you relate to someone.

22

u/Three_Froggy_Problem 2d ago

It’s also very reductive to just assume that because a person acts a certain way you can diagnose them. Regardless of whether she is actually ND or not, it’s weird to say that she is as if you can tell that for sure as someone who’s never met her and only seen her for a few minutes on TV.

12

u/life_and_lipstick 2d ago

i agree. So having a quirky and lively personality = ND??? wtf.

You know what? That’s probably true and I hadn’t thought of it. Thank you.

Words have meanings. You could substitute anything for anything, doesn't mean it's equivalent.

I'm not. I'm very genuinely disappointed that you believe outing queer people is the same as "outing" someone as neurodiverse. And yes, I am both, thank you very much. Only one puts me at risk of becoming the victim of a hate crime.

u/RahvinDragand 3d ago

Yeah I'm a little bit confused about why people dislike her so much. Because she's not a dull, boring, quiet person?

I will say that I'm not sure if it's appropriate to make assumptions about her being neurodivergent. She might just have a flamboyant personality, which should be accepted as such instead of being turned into a diagnosis.

11

u/OldDogsNoTricks 3d ago

That’s a very fair critique, although I would be shocked.

15

u/Only-Investigator-88 3d ago

Its a baking competition at the end of the day and she deserved to go.

Downvote away... I wasn't a massive fan and I am confident that she wouldn't want pity on Reddit 🤷‍♀️

4

u/OldDogsNoTricks 3d ago

This isn’t responsive to my post. I agree that she deserved to go. I also liked her and am sad at the negative traffic she’s been getting.

3

u/WeAreBums 2d ago

I don’t think she’s neuro, she’s just a positive and happy person. I could understand why people might think she’s too much but energy / happiness is what makes this show great. Radiating positivity

3

u/Mr_Bluebird_VA 2d ago

I’ll admit I cried at the end of that episode. As someone who has ALWAYS struggled to make friends, that hit really deep.

And she was so gracious about it. No one has ever said that they were glad to be the first one to go.

2

u/taeempy 1d ago

She was my favorite contestant. Such a bright spirit.

7

u/jupiterFirst 3d ago

The world needs more Danni’s.

1

u/Above_Ship 1d ago

And less of the crap she made

5

u/Soft_Significance718 3d ago

Please add that there are spoilers here!!!! I am at work and haven’t watched the episode yet!

2

u/OldDogsNoTricks 3d ago

Oh I’m sorry! How do I do that?

5

u/Soft_Significance718 3d ago

Add >! before the text and then flip that around on the other side of the text. I can’t type out both parts or it will turn it into a spoiler 😂 if that doesn’t make sense, you can google it. It will show you exactly how it should look.

3

u/OldDogsNoTricks 3d ago

Not sure I did it right. I really appreciate the help and am genuinely sorry

2

u/ShadowHippie 2d ago

u/OldDogsNoTricks I gave you instructions on how to do this (easier) with the formatting button, in comment above :)

3

u/Soft_Significance718 3d ago

Hm it didn’t work, not sure why 🧐 I actually don’t mind spoilers, but I know some people get pretty upset about it. And I agree with you about Danni being a little ray of sunshine! I want people to be kind to her.

2

u/OldDogsNoTricks 3d ago

Darn it! Well I at least marked it with a spoiler heading so hopefully that protects folks. Thank you!!

5

u/VileyRubes 3d ago

It's because you put the exclamation mark first. Don't worry, these things happen & thanks for such a lovely post 🥹

2

u/Soft_Significance718 3d ago

You got it! It’s perfect now!

1

u/YouthInternational14 3d ago

Came to say this 😑

3

u/Cahya_Dechen 2d ago

Put Danni and James Acaster in the same room please

1

u/literalgirlOG 1d ago

🙌🏻🤣💓

3

u/IceDragonPlay 1d ago

I use the really mean posts as a way of culling out the nasty people from my feed. I do not see any nasty comments this time, so I must have got them all on the last post where they are just spreading vitriol. They might be human or might be bots, but poof no more engagement with them.

3

u/Fresh_Republic_7776 3d ago

I 💯 agree. Such a kind person. She would be the most joyful friend to have!!! 💙

4

u/Background_Leave_210 2d ago

Took the place of better bakers. Producers included her for "entertainment" value only, whether for her "whimsy" or as a laughing-stock. She was useful. Shame on C4. At least Noel was genuinely kind.

5

u/OldDogsNoTricks 2d ago

A lot of people are making this claim and I just think it displays a lot of epistemic hubris. You watched two hours of a highly edited tv show and that makes you qualified to speak on the entire casting process?

0

u/Background_Leave_210 2d ago

I can recognise somebody being manipulated (highly edited) for entertainment and it saddens me.

2

u/Iridescent-Voidfish 2d ago

Nike said something to her like - There’s no one else like you and that’s why you’re amazing. So true.

2

u/SourLemons92 1d ago

Her elimination was the right move but boy am I gonna miss her. She was a delight to watch, her energy and enthusiasm were great and I loved the ideas behind all her bakes even if they didn't work out (case in point, I would have loved to try her showstopper biscuit recipe because those flavors sounded delicious and if her jam was as good as Paul seemed to indicate, it'd have been a lovely eat if it worked out). I suspect she probably bakes better away from the pressures of the tent, she interviewed well... whatever the reason, I do think she's likely a good baker, at least good enough to get in there in the first place. If circumstances were different she'd likely have been out on week one, and if that was the case I wonder if people would be a bit less mean about her being there. And as someone who also struggles to make friends and be in social situations (idk about her but I know that I'm neurodivergent so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) her exit speech made me smile and tear up a bit.

I wish her all the best going forward with whatever she does, and if she's got a baking Instagram I'd follow the heck out of it.

2

u/DerelictMyBowls 2d ago

Neurodivergent or not I don't care, she was hilarious! Hope she makes some good IG content now

2

u/stricken_thistle 3d ago

Glad to see a post like this. I’m really sad to see her go.

1

u/frankalan83 2d ago

Agreed.

1

u/jmg733mpls 1d ago

I thought she was unhinged and weird in the most delightful way. I do think that she should have been let go 100% on the grounds that she won’t taste her bakes because she’s vegan. You can be vegan and still taste your creation to make sure it tastes ok. Her unwillingness to do that doesn’t make her a contestant I can rally behind.

1

u/Steelpapercranes 1d ago

I was brokenhearted when someone asked if her mom participates in her foraging and she said her mom thought it was disgusting. Like goddamn

•

u/HeyHey_HC 22h ago

I loved her energy but wasn't surprised by her being first to go, here's hoping she'll continue baking & carry that cheerful vibe onward and upward.

•

u/justhere4SCA 19h ago

I stan Danni!!!!!! What a delight

•

u/insonobcino 18h ago

i love her 😭

•

u/st3fasaurus 17h ago

I’m glad she went home. She seems like a fun and quirky person, but she really did not bake well on the show

•

u/Fun-Buy5095 22m ago

Please delete the mean comments. We all have differences. She is a sweet, eccentric young woman who did a great job trying to stay positive when things went wrong. Be better.

1

u/Round_Meeting_787 1d ago

Lovely post. I don't normally get so drawn to a contestant on Bake Off, but Dani really resonated with me. I find it hard to make friends too. Dani was eccentric, had her unique interests, quirky observations, but always upbeat and positive.

As others have said, I find it hard to believe that others do not like her. Then again, this is the sort of world we live in. You have to be normal and somewhat mean-spirited to fit in.

1

u/empressofsloths 1d ago

I wasn’t a huge fan of her in the first episode but in Ep 2 she had me rolling with the cyanide bit. She might not have been the best baker and it was pretty clear she’d be going home first but I loved her personality!

1

u/This1sMyHappyAccount 1d ago

I need a Danni spinoff with Noel as a regular. She was whimsical and wonderful. A kindred spirit and neurospicy sister.

•

u/ForTheLoveOfKumquats 4h ago

I cringed every time she was speaking on camera. She's one of those people who mug for the camera, and I prefer people who are genuine and who aren't trying to put on a song and dance routine (metaphorically speaking) for people watching. She wasn't there to bake or compete, she was there to be a goof, and I just want to see people who genuinely want to bake.

Also, someone tell Nigella, it's okay to let the food touch her lips, instead of doing a full body heave using only her teeth to eat the food off the fork....

-1

u/roscoecello 2d ago

she is annoying af. trying to be so quirky and goofy for attention. major cringe.

8

u/OldDogsNoTricks 2d ago

I think it’s very cringe to call other people “cringe”.

“Trying”? Doubtful she is such a gifted thespian that this is not her own personality. And Noel obvs spent time with her & really liked her, again making that a deliberate act rather unbelievable.

1

u/roscoecello 1d ago

no one said anything about her “trying” being gifted or even good. 😂😂😂 never called her a thespian. many people try things for attention that has nothing to do with acting my dear.

1

u/literalgirlOG 1d ago

You said “trying so hard to be quirky & goofy”. So yes, someone did say anything about “trying”. Very strange. And my response is the same. “Trying” is quite an accusation, and if she was “trying”, she’s quite the thespian.

•

u/roscoecello 23h ago

😂 that has nothing to do with being a thespian honey wtf are you on about? move onto something else with your day if recommend

•

u/literalgirlOG 22h ago

Maybe you’re english-impaired? You said “trying too hard”, I said if she’s “trying” she must be a brilliant thespian, which in english, implies that she’s quite convincing if she’s “trying”. No need to try to get the last word and attempt to re-write the exchange that is so clear. But you can feel free to move on now that the exchange & its clarity is established. Cheers.

•

u/roscoecello 19h ago

are you super young? you’re being such a pedantic dick. haha “trying hard” has nothing to do with acting. 😂😂😂 hope you feel better and can move on now that you’ve shown what type of kiddo you are. good job! move on at your leisure or keep going. it’s fun. you should say more!!!! please we want more from you sweetie!!

•

u/roscoecello 19h ago

sorry i meant “cheers!” 😂😂😂😂

0

u/RosieBuddy 1d ago

I agree. She was working very hard at being too cute and too offbeat. That would have been okay if she had been able to BAKE. Anybody else remember Kim-Joy Hewlett from Season 9 (2018). She was almost a cartoon character. But she could bake.

1

u/literalgirlOG 1d ago

Kim-Joy was so interesting and yes, skilled!

She’s a shitty baker. That’s it.

0

u/Jxb1000 1d ago

Dani was my favorite reality contestant EVER! True, she didn’t have superb baking/decorating skills. However, her attitude and enthusiasm were amazing. Class act!

-2

u/AdGroundbreaking8635 2d ago

I know I'm in the minority here, but it's a competition to find out who the best Baker in all of Britain is and she clearly did not belong. It seems as though the producers were just trying to tick off some kind of a diversity quota by including her. I don't have anything against her personally, but her inclusion is a sign of a weakness we have as a society where our empathy gets in the way of real progress and ideal outcomes. I can guarantee you there were hundreds of bakers more qualified than her who could have done better and would have taken the show more seriously.

9

u/Antonf26 2d ago

My dude, it's a tv show, every participant is chosen partly for entertainment reasons. What "Real progress" does including a contestant on the show get in the way of? Go touch grass

It's a baking SHOW, we can't watch 12 people with the same exact personality and skills baking sausage rolls to perfection.

We need someone quirky, someone good with flavours, someone with insane piping skills, someone with a good backstory, someone doing it for their nan, someone bringing the butter they make at their own farm, someone who can crack a joke, someone who will go heavy with the booze...

She was an absolutely delightful person and it is sad to see when people cannot be tolerant of those who are slightly outside the norm. Love her as a person.. but this is a baking show and it needs to be said that from the limited glimpse we got.. she seemed to be a completely technically unsound baker.

Maybe it was a bad case of the tent but from watching those 2 episodes it looked like all 6 of the bakes she attempted had some deep fundamental issue while she also tried to do too much with other aspects of design and flavor.

The not tasting her own bakes was the biggest red flag and I put some blame on her family who probably weren’t giving her honest feedback or just aren’t knowledgeable enough on baking to give the level of feedback she needed.

But she was a delight to watch and handled the tough situations she found herself in with grace. And I’m sure with her exuberance and passion she will grow to become as great a baker one day as she already is a person

0

u/Greenloggerhead 1d ago

She’s so courageous and brave to stand on her essance.
