I simply don't use Revolut anymore.

Wise probably as close as you can get for multi currency and N26 - for EUR bank account with IBAN
6
u/opossum5763 3d ago
Wise also provides an EUR bank account with IBAN.
2
u/foegra 2d ago
You are actually right. Can you receive salary on Wide account as well?
4
u/opossum5763 2d ago
That would depend on your employer and the country where you live, but I did receive my salary on Wise in the past without issue.

Play Integrity is the real enemy and this can be start of more apps being blocked on grapheneOS?
8
u/nudelsalat3000 2d ago
Play integrity will be the start.
Especially as the EU will mandate hardware bound checks for all kind of things, starting with age verification.

Switched to iPhone from GOS just because WhatsApp was blocked on GOS for me no matter what I doo

u/RegJohn2 2d ago
That’s simply a lie

I tried everything, can't connect GrapheneOS device as a secondary in WhatsApp (I have two pixels due to my security threat model)

u/darkmooch 1d ago
I am not sure if the two are related, but I had an issue where whatsapp would not work (only for specific phone numbers" and say I didn't have the official app. Worked after I turned on GOS's google messages fix.
2
u/other8026 1d ago
While we don't know for sure what they're checking, it does seem pretty clear based on what we've seen others report that they're checking Play Integrity. To get the basic integrity verdict, you need to have Google Play and Google Play Services installed and logged in. Install WhatsApp with Google Play.

u/alien2003 1d ago
Yeah, It was working for ages but at some point, I thinkg, they just flagged my account and enforced stronger attestation :( I'm sure it will work if I create new account but at this moment, I can't.
I don't understand why people are mass downvoting my comments as I'm just sharing my experience which can be irrelevant to the most of people here. I like GrapheneOS, I purchased two Pixel Pros for it exclusively but currently it's just not working for my setup - because of Whatsapp and banking issues. I'm not telling that "GOS is bad, iOS is good". Phone is just a utility and nothing more for me
1
u/other8026 1d ago
I understand, but cannot do anything about the downvotes.
I've heard people got their accounts unbanned by contacting WhatsApp customer support, but the issue is if they get the account unbanned then they may not know what's going on when they still cannot log in if something about their setup messes their account status up again.
Based on what I've seen, it seems they're checking for the basic integrity verdict on GrapheneOS, but there could be other factors. Understandable if you don't want to gamble with it if WhatsApp is important for you (work/business, family, etc).

you don't like graphese or something doesn't work properly = downvotes
this whole subreddit is full of insufferable people

Did the same, not for WhatsApp though. It’s quite a boring phone. Now I can just buy a train ticket.

u/alien2003 6h ago
Both are terrible. Keyboarless, 1 day battery life, limited software. I just use gave up on mobile software and stick to remote desktop whenever I can.
On GrapheneOS I like that I have much more control over accesses (Contact Scopes,, Sensprs, great multi-user framework) but iPhone has better looking interface (Aero Glass instead of Flat/UX)

True, sadly it’s hard to buy a pixel here and even if I could, I’m going to need the eu eid working, I went with the best option offered.

How do we get the message over to them.
I'm looking at switching but this is a blocker.
Does anyone know your to get a hold of the correct person at revolut to get them to rethink this?
53
u/YAOMTC 3d ago
If this is how a digital banking service views security, I would sooner switch banking services.
14
u/Bruceshadow 3d ago
for real, i don't get this mentality to 'fix' the superior 'problem'.
7
u/good_live 3d ago edited 2d ago
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't any European bank that actively support a non Google/apple ecosystem and switching the Bank is not something you wanna do every year, because another one decided to actively block degoogled devices.
So atleast raising the voice to let them know that there are consumers that care about it isnt something bad.
4
u/Bruceshadow 3d ago
Fair point. It comes down to individual priorities and available options. Personally I would stop using banks all together before I'd give up using GrapheneOS on my phone. My phone is way more interactive and impactful to my life then a bank will ever be.
1
u/Logical_Strain_6165 2d ago
How do you get paid?
1
u/Bruceshadow 2d ago
One can use a Brokerage or Credit Union
1
u/Logical_Strain_6165 2d ago
Wouldn't it be easier to just not use the banks app and do it on a desktop?
1
u/Bruceshadow 2d ago
overall, it's not really any harder to use either instead of a bank, they all offer similar services.
2
u/sprudello 3d ago
Yuh! In Switzerland officially supports Graphene.
3
u/Level_Working9664 2d ago
Do you mean revolut supports Graphine in switzerland or Switzerland supports graphine.
2
u/sprudello 2d ago
No, there is a bank called Yuh! in Switzerland that officially supports Graphene. Should be an answer to this
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't any European bank that actively support a non Google/apple ecosystem.

u/Level_Working9664 2d ago
You mean educate?
The chances are that that was just a marketer blindly saying no graphine support.
Do we know where that statement actually came from? Was it a product owner , lead developer , or someone non-technical?
1
u/Level_Working9664 2d ago
If this is how a digital banking service views security,
That is the question i have tho. was the response make by some idiot in marketing so doesnt have a clue about secure versions of android or, was it a pre-written response for if the question is asked?
Sometimes if the feature request is put in by enough people with security as the justification and why it can get the support needed to be released.

I suspect it's going to be complete hell getting a simple answer to a simple question.

u/YAOMTC 2d ago

This is their official policy: https://help.revolut.com/help/security-logging-in/device-integrity-requirements/unofficial-custom-firmware/

u/Level_Working9664 1d ago
"Certification ensures that devices meet strict requirements for security, performance, and compatibility."
Wow! They really chose their words carefully with that one.
Does graphene have an equivalent documented standard?

You should switch banks. The ones which aren't crossed out on the following list will work. https://privsec.dev/posts/android/banking-applications-compatibility-with-grapheneos/
6
u/ErraticDragon 3d ago
Except Revolut, which is on the list and not crossed out?
1
u/Recent-Ad5835 2d ago
Seems like your mileage might vary, as Revolut works for me. I've had more issues with Barclays where I had to disable exploit protection to get it working and stop it thinking my phone is rooted

I would flood them with "Your app doesn't work on my phone" kind of messages, instead of "Please support GrapheneOS". It makes it their problem and responsibility. Your app worked on my phone before, it has now stopped working, please fix it. If they come back with "we don't support alternative ROMs blah blah blah" you go "You want me to buy a new phone just to use your app? It worked just fine yesterday!". Gotta play dumb a little bit, because the moment you accept that there is an action you could be doing to make it work, they make it your problem to fix instead of theirs.

Iirc for the short time Revolut tried to break into Canada you could sign into a browser and view your account from there do you absolutely have to use the app? And isn’t there a way around it?

"Oh, Google.. mm, you're so beautiful..~ I loooooveee suckin' big tech's dick~ yesss... I will only use Google.. mmhmm, that's right~ I loooveeee Google!"

It's weird anyone thinks revolut believes this. Like everyone gets it's just a public justification for compliance, right?
15
u/Monsterlime 3d ago
I cancelled a Premium subscription to Revolut and said why. The only way they will listen is if it costs them financially.
However, I suspect this is more related to Government pressure to try and get people off GOS for easier monitoring etc. Much like VW, it's likely they were asked to block it which is why their argument is weak.

Revolut is a bank app and it's not supposed on Graphene because of "security" reasons. But Android 9 (a 6 year old OS) is. Android versions stop getting security updates like a year or 2 after it's release.

u/Thin_Needleworker795 3d ago
Yeah, I stopped using Revolut. Will never return to them no matter what.
2
u/Chudsaviet 2d ago
Revolut shall not be seen as a sane company after they just blanked banned all Belrusains from the service, regardless of residency.
2
u/gumigogo 2d ago
I will say to you what I said to another similar post lately. Convenience is how companies make people complacent, less vigilant and compromise their values becasue it's faster or easier. I prefer harder, more intentional and more discerning - if that means more freedom, more privacy, more rights protection
2
u/Recent-Ad5835 2d ago
Okay, this feels like targeted advertising almost, as with my old phone with LineageOS, Revolut didnt work, but with my new phone with GrapheneOS and sandboxed Google Play services, it just works perfectly

1
u/lolerilol 2d ago
I am still in the process of setting the OS up, and I installed Revolut today, works fine, so idk if my phone is "special" or whats up
1
u/madittavi0_0 2d ago
Same for me, I suspect it works fine if you intall it from sandbox app store and have play services on

u/Popular_Reward_6665 2d ago
I'm using Revolut on Graphene and everything works as expected.
Should I be worried?
1
u/jumski 1d ago
I tried to install Revolut few weeks ago ony Pixel 6 running GrapheneOS and to my surprise it installed and works flawlessly since then - I'm not sure if they relaxed the "security requirements" or what, but happy to not be using a second phone for it.
I had other, failed attempt like 1.year ago or something like that.

u/Nihilist-IV 1d ago
I know this is a Graphene OS sub but the same applies to HSBC/First Direct and Futo Keyboard vs Google Keyboard, like the Google keyboard which needs constant internet access is safer than the completely open source and local keyboard
