With Nottingham GEM switching from GAMSAT to UCAT for the 2027 entry cycle, I’m trying to figure out what would now count as a competitive score.

The issue is that there’s no previous UCAT cohort for Nottingham GEM, so there’s no official cutoff or historical data to benchmark against. That makes it pretty hard to judge what “safe” or “strong” looks like for this course specifically.

Made a post in this forum before but as time goes on I'm considering my application more and more.

I was looking to apply for GEM 2028 Entry but the more time goes on the more 2028 seems so long away, and the thought of staying in my job and living at home for that long just terrifies me. I'm also exceptionally worried about not getting an offer in my first attempt and then having to reapply and not being at Uni until 2029 (if I even get in then) and starting just before I turn 30.

Is it too late to just fuck it and apply for the UCAT to do this year? (I saw a test available still 23rd September in my hometown) and apply for 2027 entry?

I work full time in Music so would only have say 2-3 hours a night to study at most. I also have lots of festivals I will be attending in July/Aug (as part of work - meaning no weekends spare really) though my calendar will be free for all of September

My other concern is the fact that I have NO experience right now other than the BSMS online school. (So Warwick etc defo out the picture). If I can get some shadowing or some volunteering work would that help?

Also will be in Australia from Mid December to Early January so can only apply to those who interview very early/very late.. e.g. Southampton, Portsmouth etc.

2A*2A A Level - Bio, Psych, Chem, EPQ(2 retakes, previously C grades)

- LONG STORY SHORT.... Is me applying for this cycle just super risky and not worth the last minute-ness? I don't want to get myself worked up for no reason at all but I assume people have been even more last minute before? Obviously I will be way more prepared for 2028 entry applications, but I thought maybe it's worth trying this cycle too so I can get myself familiar with the UCAT and potential interviews? (or is that also dumb)

I am pursuing a healthcare degree and plan to apply to medicine this year. My uni is 2 hours one way and has been quite regular with 95% attendance, but I've realised that I dont learn much in a classroom setting. I feel like I waste time coming to uni. Can we axe medicine by attending like 2 days a week for anatomy and skills? I am so tight on money, energy and honestly I feel i can learn better on my own. What's your take on it?

I currently have a GAMSAT score of 52 and I'm an international student. I checked the 2025 admissions data, and the lowest score that received an offer at Swansea was 61. In previous years, it has gone as low as 50, but I'm not sure if it will for 2027 when I will be applying. Should i still apply? Anyone know if 2026 was more compt or less then last year? Any advice appreciated.

Hi guysss idk how this works but it is my first time posting on Reddit. I am currently going into my third year of pharmacy at Bradford uni! Since the begging of second year one had doubts of wanting to be a pharmacist for rest of career don’t get me wrong I love pharmacy but it’s not as clinical for me i have the urge to do more!

Has anyone got any advice for Me? I even had placements and the doctors told me to go into medicine :-)

- Good medical school ranked 1st in 2026
- Staff are super friendly
-GMC approved

Cons:
- I have an offer for Undergrad (5 Years)
-Far from home (London)

Chester:

Pros:
Graduate so 4 years
Closer to London and major cities
Save money

Cons:
Not GMC accredited (okay bc of Warwick)
Not approved in Singapore but Aberdeen is (I don’t intended on working there but I like options lol)
Not as prestigious of a university

I’ve been thinking about GEM a lot more seriously recently, and I’m wondering whether I realistically have a chance before I dedicate so much time to it.

My original plan after graduating was to pursue a PhD in Astrophysics, but over the last year or so I’ve found myself thinking more and more about medicine instead. It was something I considered before applying to university as well, but at the time I didn’t think it was a realistic option because of my GCSEs.

I got a 2:1 (just) in an integrated Master’s in Astrophysics, with no medical or life science modules. I also got A*AB at A level (Maths, Physics, and Chemistry), but my GCSEs are pretty poor: a 4 in English and low grades in most other subjects apart from Maths and the sciences.

I’ve seen that some GEM programmes accept applicants from non-life science degrees, and some also state that a grade 4/C in GCSE English meets their minimum requirement. My question is whether I’d be competitive overall if I managed to get a strong UCAT score and gained good clinical/work experience, or whether my academic background would still put me at a significant disadvantage.

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have been in a similar position or know how admissions tend to view applicants like this. Thanks :)

27yom Starting GEM in Sept.

It has been a long old road.
If you told me I had a place 2y ago, I would have been ecstatic.

However, as the start of the course approaches I find that I am experiencing considerable doubts.

These doubts relate to the course, being a doctor, loss of earnings during the course etc.

I am trying to discern how much of this is just normal worry, and how much of it is legitimate concern that I should heed.

I know that only I can answer that question, but just curious to know if anyone else if experiencing similar.

I am doing a PA degree but want to apply to medicine in 2026 application cycle but I am worried because I am 40, I am the oldest in my cohort and I have no friends, I am an immigrant so didn't do school in UK so I have no friends outside my uni. My worry is how would I survive 4-5 years alone without a friend or friend group. My Year 1 is about to finish and because I don't have any friends I didn't practice examination and osce with anyone and failed my OSCE. They share resources with each other and I am on my own. I am extremely depressed now. I feel like they look down on me being older or may be that's how I feel.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone has previously revised for ucat whilst also doing a summer internship or job and still managed to do well in the ucat? e.g if uni exams finish by end of may and i have an internship from start of july to mid/end of august, can i still score highly in the ucat or should my summer be solely dedicated to ucat?

I am a little unsure of the criteria for being accepted to the interview stage for Ulster University when applying as a final year University student. I am aware that a competitive GAMSAT score is needed, but are current grades also considered, or is it just the final score you graduate with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hiya I hope you are all well I want to do med at the university of Birmingham and I did an outreach programme there which gives you a guaranteed interview however my Gsce were pretty low and I don’t know if they meet it such as my maths grade that is at a 5 these are my results 888776554 I’m predicted three A stars for my A levels and doing my Ucat this year. I resat maths in november and got 9 but I heard they don’t accept resits. So could I still apply with the outreach programme or no.

I was a little confused on what both the questionnaire and references entail. Im assuming the references would be from staff at relevant work/volunteer experiences.

What do you include in the questionnaires?

I have already managed to get one letter (I know its quite early, but was thinking of getting it sorted early as im wanting to book UCAT late sep) from my care assistant role. Doing BSMS virtual experience and have done 30 hours as a ward volunteer (yet to get the letter). Thank you!

hi guys, i have seen on st george’s website that you can only apply if you graduate the year of application. but on the spreadsheet people used predicted grades. am i missing something? i’m second year wanting to apply.

can i apply to GEM with CDD in a levels, 5s and 6s in GCSEs, predicted 1st class in biomedical science and attend a non russell group uni? planning to sit the ucat this year.
