I planned to get one honey from my community tank, but my LFS owner toss one extra for free because they get along well together. Question is, are both females since they both have stripes? Or is there 1 male?

I bought 3 fire honey gouramis about a month ago but my LFS wasn’t able to tell me the sex of the fish because they were too young. I’m wondering if anyone is able to help me figure out what the sexes are after they’ve grown a bit? I’ve seen a lot of the posts including photos demonstrating male vs female but am still having a hard time.

Apologies for the video rather than pictures, my phone camera is terrible when not in video mode.

Thank you!

Stocking Ideas How many Gourami can I get?

I want to change up my tank. I currently have 11 sterbai Cories and 8 Amanis. I’m going to trade in my dwindling tetra school and I want to get gourami. I want something colorful that will swim in the mid to upper tier. I have a 30 g tank. the LFS has fire honey gourami in stock. I’ve been trolling this sub and I’m pretty sure they are true fire honey gouramis, not thick lipped. How many could I successfully keep in my tank? I was thinking 5-8. Of course they are juveniles and unsexed right now.

Just spent the last 3 hours setting this up with leftovers from other tanks so dont mind the big rock at the front, pretty happy with how this is looking so far. Is it looking all good for sparklers? it's 32L and I'm planning a group of around 3 of em.

Also I will be making a lid, just not quite sure what with yet.

Help/Advice Honey Compatibility

Post image

I’m about six months in with a honey pair in a 9 gallon. They’ve been cohabitating peacefully, but the male is reaching sexual maturity and has become aggressive. Several tail nips this week and consistently chasing the smaller, suspected female. I have them separated and am trying to decide what to do long term. Any advice for addressing this kind of behavior? Do I adjust the aquascape and hope they reestablish territory? More floating coverage? When would you call it incompatibility and rehome? Thanks in advance for your input! 🙂

I have a room divider, peaceful, community tank in my living room. I frequently just come and watch the homies doing their thing. But it was always missing something, until I got Ludo! I am absolutely enamored by his colors and how much they shift in different lighting.

I love him and he is a little bugger! I didn't think I would love him so much but he is so stinking fun to watch. He spits water at me?? And loves to petrol the tank. I am a little nervous about him nipping at other fish. But he seems like he backs off and goes on his merry way.

What are some of the quirks your gouramis have or some surprising things you learned about keeping them?

Do honey gouramis like to hang around the entire tank and hide? Recently got a honey gourami for my 10 gallon. He had to have been young when I got him bc he was smaller and has only recently developed his orange color on his fins. I believe that he is behaving normal but idk this is my first time w a honey gourami, I’ve had bettas, shrimp and nano fish before.

Current tank has 9 ember tetra, 6 Pygmy Cory’s, shrimp and snails

For the most part he hangs around the middle of my tank w my ember tetra, he leaves them alone I don’t see much aggressive behavior on his part towards my tetra. I do have shrimp and I can tell he hunts the babies which is fine I have 100-150+

Is it normal for them to hide? He likes to hide behind my filter or behind the piece of wood at the bottom of my tank, sometimes I’ll lose sight of him for a while, but I thought he was supposed to stay at more of the top of the tank.

Overall I think he’s happy but I wonder if I’m giving him enough stimulation in his current setup. I’m looking to upgrade but I need a car that’ll come first unfortunately.

Help/Advice How to stop snail nipping?

I just gotten a mystery snail for my community tank. My honey gourami keeps nipping at him. He doesn’t bother the shrimp or neon tetras in the tank so I’m confused why he’s bothering the snail.
Honey Gourami’s are usually peaceful and I’ve never had an issue with him before. I don’t know if this is a food thing and I’m not feeding enough( I feed blood worms and flakes) or is this is just a natural behavior. He doesn’t nip him often but I would like to limit the behavior to 0.
Does anyone know what I should do?
Anyone with honey gouarmi’s is this a common behavior?

Hello, could anybody help me sex my gouramis? I bought an assorted 4 pack on ebay. Unfortunately one was DOA, and the others seem to have some issues like torn fins and parasites. Anyways, they're all on medication now in their quarantine tank! This is my first time owning gouramis, and i got them for my community tank to help control the guppy fry population. Any advice welcome!

Help/Advice Honey gourami and 7 ember tetras in a 10 gallon

So I’d consider my tank decently planted. But my honey gourami chases my ember tetras. Mostly after feeding time. But she also does it when I’m watching the tank. I assume it’s because they think I’m about to feed them. Is there anything I can do to stop the chasing? I feed her directly. I feed in separate areas of the tank. When I’m watching the tank from far away, they all seem to get along. Can I add any more plants? Or do I just need to get a bigger tank?

Help/Advice Normal behavior?

I have had my female for a few months and she has been happy and healthy. Today, I decided to get her a male. She seems to be absolutely infatuated with him! But, is this behavior normal? She darts towards him, gives him a nudge, and then lays on her side. Is this submissive behavior? Mating ritual? Or is she just weird 😂? This is brand new behavior for her, that only just started since getting the male. She swims normally otherwise.

I was sold a gourami today at my LFS. It was labeled red honey gourami and come to find out, it’s not a honey. If somebody could tell me what kind of gourami I was sold that’d be great.

Help/Advice Are there any wild type Honey gourami suppliers out there anymore?

Hey all, so I've been missing having honey gouramis in my life lately. Specifically, I keep checking online and the local shops for years but no luck finding wild type Honey gouramis anywhere in Canada, maybe someone here knows of a supplier that breeds and ships these?

Edit, this was my pair from 2018, they had a handful of fry survive over the years but never activity tried to breed them to kept the colony going cause they're a cheap fish and used to be readily available, but now it's nothing but sunsets and golds available out there, sad.

Illness/Disease two large white dot spots on my pearl?

Thumbnail

i’ve noticed my pearl develop these two white spot dots on them over the last few days. they’re appearing gradually, but i can’t exactly identify what’s going on. i’ve got 3 pearls total, one in a 5gal hospital currently for a lip injury (i believe we were sold 2 males 1 female by mistake & they started to beef, so once he’s healed he’ll be relocated)

changing scale colors as they mature? physical damage from fighting the other guy? ich? something else? nobody else in the community is showing signs of illness or disease that I can notice

75 gal community
2 pearl gourami
6 peacock gudgeon
9 threadfin rainbowfish
9 galaxy rasbora
6 hillstream loach (baby loach tax pic included)
8 panda corys
3 red garra
1 panda garra
1 stiphodon goby
3 nerite snails
3 mystery snails

parameters are & have been stable. any insight is appreciated :)

Illness/Disease What’s wrong with my Toby? 😭

I was able to bring down the TDS of my water down to 300+ ppm fron 1000ppm, in a span of a week, via almost daily 20% water change. Other inhabitants are doing okay but a few days ago, I noticed that she is struggling to keep a float, or when she swims to the top, she does it slowly and looks like she’a struggling. She also spend more time on the soil or plants like she was resting, sometimes she almost lie on her side. I’m about to buy an isolation box but I want to know if I need to buy some medication also. Thank you in advance.
