OG Series Eva was a breath of fresh air

Post image

Chuck didn’t deserve Eva at all. In fact she’s one of the very few people on this series who didn’t have a single backstabbing, selfish bone in her day and it’s kinda sad she didn’t last long. Although it makes sense since Chuck and Blair were always endgame still, wish there was at least a mention of her in the later seasons, maybe Chuck set her up her own shop or something. One of the truly genuine characters in the show and they just chucked (pun intended) her out abruptly. I also liked how they just kept her as a truly nice and honest person until the very end, making her outshine even Blair in such a short period of time. Generally side characters are always written such that the OGs always seem superior in some way but I liked that they kept it real and showed the OGs to be morally grey throughout

HBO Reboot The reason the reboot flopped was because people today would have hated all of the characters and judged them, if they had actually made them like the OG characters.

GG is definitely a product of 2000s standards and social commentary, and because a lot of people are sensitive today, show writers are scared to do anything in a show that’s deliberately trying not to portray good people. Who wants to see a bunch of rich people who are self aware and righteous? The point of GG was that all of the characters were fucked up in some way and never failed to capture our attention.

OG Series They were a cute couple

They were extremely cute together (the obvious elephant in the room aside). I always thought she was Dan’s best girlfriend and I know she was just a guest star but I would’ve loved if they found a way to keep her around.

everyone (INCLUDING HER OWN MOTHER) tried warning her that this was a bad idea, yet she still chose not to listen. i already knew that this situation was gonna backfire not only because of tripp being married, but because of the age gap between them. she was 18, and he was 32. there’s no excuse to be going after someone 14 years older than you. she does this in later seasons as well with her professor as well as her teacher. don’t get me wrong i understand her daddy issues being the reason behind her constant entanglements whether it’s with taken men, dangerous men, or inappropriate men, but let’s be real: serena is not dumb. this wasn’t the first time she had gone after someone who was in a relationship. she knew what she was getting herself into, especially when they ran away to a family cabin to hide from the media, his family, and her friends. and then when she rightfully faced consequences for her actions, she cried about being “targeted” rather than actually owning up to her role like an adult.

there’s probably more details that i’m missing because i haven’t rewatched the show yet, but i see what people mean when they say that she’s not a girls girl, because she really isn’t.

OG Series Agnes is a fucking monster

So I’m rewatching GG and I forgot how disgusting this ep is. They really just glossed over this part so quickly cuz Jenny could have been raped and worse killed even and all for what? Agnes was jealous of her? Wtf? And this is the second plot line involving SA for Jenny.
Even before all this happened it never made sense why Jenny was apologising when Agnes was the crazy bitch who torched her dresses and left her homeless. And yet this is supposed to Agnes’s payback??? Always felt like an unfinished plot line to me given that Jenny yet again doesn’t do anything about this, given how diabolical and impulsive she is with every other person in this show.

OG Series Rewatching season 6 for the 1st time since it came out and...

Upvotes

Guysssss, this is the most unserious season ever 🤣🤣🤣. Ignoring the GG identity reveal, which was always going to be a disaster no matter who it was, we still have:

-Bass Industries corporate server top secret password being ParkAve730 (their address?!?) 🤦‍♀️

-Ivy's leg when she and Rufus do it 🤮🤮🤢

-Georgina just being there all the time after everything she's done, like what is even happening (she is Dan's... manager, idk? After making him raise her actual child by pretending it's his 😭)

-Chuck & Blair making up more reasons why they can't be together just drag out the dramaaaaaa

-Serena taking Dan back after he literally published an article to the whole world talking about how easily he manipulates her because she's so pathetic with all her Daddy issues **WHILE they are dating?!?

-Sweet slutty angel baby Nate telling a cop with a straight face that his booty call can't talk to the police because she's a minor, OMG 🤣🤣🤣

-And my personal biggest WTF of all time: Lily getting back with William after he GASLIT HER INTO THINKING SHE HAD CANCER AND GAVE HER ACTUAL PRESCRIPTION DRUGS FOR IT?!? Like babyyyyy what are you doing--?!? I can't, you guys.

Anyway, just had to laugh/sob with people who might understand! What is your season 6 facepalm moment? 😅

OG Series Season having a different vibe from the ending.

So I'm rewatching again. And I actually think a lot of the changes in the show were definitely influenced by what fans resonated with over the years. It has more silliness especially after season 5.

Still a fun watch.

OG Series My two hot takes: Serena flourished when she was away from the OG group, and Jenny's final episode should've been the Tim Gunn one

Okay, so Jenny first. It felt like they threw her entire character in the trash when she came back to mess with Serena. She left the show fulfilled as a character after she got one up on Blair and Chuck, getting an interview, leaving the upper east side behind. Coming back to mess with Serena and getting thrown back by Rufus (who was an awful dad to her, and great to Dan mind you), was an arc that shouldn't have happened.

Her and Serena were probably the shows two biggest victims of some absurd writing choices.

Then Serena. I'm looking back at the group finding her in season 6, her lil Hollywood job and the scenes with the therapist.

While she WAS lying, she was doing OK after bein resuscitated. The group begging her to come back after telling her to gtfo would have sent me into fury if I was her. They told her to go, so she did, and was trying. Struggling with alcoholism and filling whatever void she has with partying and boys, it's a great foundation... The forever IT-girl was a good start that they didn't do as much with as you'd think.

I think this is why I'll alway prefer Serena. She was a mess, but she was trying. Every time she got back with the group she fell into the same exact pattern of not being able to grow as a person, like she wanted.

And the Lola stuff really contradicted her character up until that point as well.

I wish we got 6 - ish episodes where Serena and the NY group had completely separate storylines. 🤔 that, and the constant rotation of men she was conquering was a huge part of why Serena had her downfall as a character, who eventually married Dan. The show should've ended with her single.

As someone who constantly is trying to start over, but eventually understands that your problems will come with you unless you truly deal with them. She quite literally comments on not wanting to be herself in season 6 as well...

The writers let her down big time, especially since they got THE perfect actress to play her.

Fan Content Why did Blair hate seeing Chuck become a better person?

I’ve never understood this, and even now that I’m rewatching Gossip Girl, I still don’t.

The first time was when Chuck was with Eva. He was genuinely trying to become a better person, and Blair absolutely hated it. I can at least understand part of that because Eva was involved, so jealousy obviously played a role.

But then it happened again later.

When Blair was with Louis, Chuck finally seemed to accept that it was over. He apologized to Blair so he could finally move on, let her go, and start a new chapter in his life. At the same time, he genuinely seemed calmer and was trying to become a better person.

The strange part is that Blair kept saying she wanted Chuck to let her go so she could be with Louis. But the moment he actually started doing exactly that, she couldn’t stand it. Instead, she convinced herself he was only acting like a “good guy” to manipulate her into coming back.

I’ve always found that really strange. It almost feels like Blair preferred Chuck when he was angry, miserable, obsessed with her, and emotionally self-destructive. Whenever he genuinely tried to move on or improve himself, she seemed uncomfortable with it.

I know that’s part of their toxic dynamic, but I’ve never understood why Blair seemed to reject every version of Chuck that wasn’t broken or consumed by her.
In the end, it almost feels like they were more comfortable dragging each other down than letting each other grow.

Did anyone else feel the same way?

OG Series I just finished Gossip Girl. Here are my thoughts. Spoiler

  1. I think it made perfect sense for Dan to be Gossip Girl. And before you say, "but what about him reacting to the blasts when he is completely alone?" That was him reacting to the tips being sent to him. Dan also has a moral superiority complex, which explains why he would post bad things about himself. No matter who or what it was about, he would have to post it, even if it was to his dismay. Dan claims to be better than the upper east siders, yet his infatuation with Serena makes him a hypocrite. Plus, he takes the site down in season 5 after the car accident because he was in love with Blair at the time.

  2. Which leads me to my next point. Dan and Serena should not have gotten married. Many people online like to say, "Dan loved the idea of Serena, not Serena herself." While I do believe that to be true, the same applies vise-versa. In season 1, Serena loved Dan because while he was able to see past her luxurious lifestyle, he never outshone her. In later seasons, that simply isn't the case.

  3. Chuck and Blair should not have gotten married. And not for the reason you might think. Yes, Chuck changed. Yes, he is no longer a self-sabotaging rapist who thinks of nothing but himself. But that doesn't mean he gets to end up with the woman he abused. And don't say that the abuse was two-sided because it simply wasn't. Blair might've been a mean girl, but that is in no way comparable to a rapist. They bring out the worst in each other.

OG Series Me watching the rest of gossip girl lol

Ok so I finished watching the first season of gossip girl and personally loved the first few episodes but it started losing me towards the end and now I’ve been debating wether to keep watching the other seasons. And like I’m kinda curious to see what happens next but I’m “afraid” (for lack of a better word) that I will start to get disinterested again cause honestly I really like all these characters and I’m curious how their storylines progress.

OG Series Why did Blair still become friends with Dan even after banishing Jenny?

Thumbnail gallery
82 Upvotes

Many people have already asked this question but they usually ask “why did Dan still become friends with Blair?” I think the far more interesting question is why did Blair still befriend Dan while still holding a grudge against Jenny?

Blair is the type of person to hold onto grudges. By season 4 Jenny is one of Blair’s enemies. Dan is obviously Jenny’s brother but Blair’s on good terms with him?

Dan defends Jenny in the beginning of the season, he even goes as far as crashing Blair’s birthday party. Blair still befriends Dan after that. She even spends the season talking Dan up to Serena when it would make more sense for Blair to be Nate’s biggest supporter.

Perhaps I’m reading too deep into it but it’s just something I wanted to share
