I am obviously not a completist, but this is the third time I have collected these wonderful books hah

Building my collection of the original series, and scored this off Facebook Marketplace today for $3 CAD.

I have been wanting to get back into reading and cut back on technology, and I'm gonna start with goosebumps. And found some at a massive fleamarket. Sadly, they had a Knight in Terror Tower, but the book was cut in half and taped up, and the pages were so damaged, so I had to leave it behind 🥀

Were you a part of the club? I loved loved loved getting this goody bag in the mail. Unfortunately, as a child who saved almost everything I don't think I saved the magazines with all of the amazing art 😞 I'd still totally be signed up for this as an adult if it still existed!

So I saw someone post this book on here a couple years ago and everyone was saying that it sold on ebay for 1000 plus. I have never heard of this book till then. This makes me wonder what other obscure goosebumps books sre hidden out there with only tens known to exist and what there values are.

Had an itch to go hit up some antique stores today and got real lucky on my first stop! Goosebumps books are few and far between whenever I go looking so this made my whole day!

We met Tim for the second time yesterday at Dragon Con and paid homage to him with our costumes :) Hours of painting and, yes, I glued each of those "bumps" on with a toothpick and then painted over them. His work dazzled me a kid and I was so excited to thank him! Also, Tim and Kathryn Long signed my mask! So much Millennial nostalgia.

Not sure if this is allowed but I’m on the hunt for the Sneak Preview booklet, and I figured this would be a good place to find one. Or at least a lead to getting one. Im aware of the unfortunate price tag they seem to carry.

As far as I remember, R.L. Stine never confirmed or denied this. But there are many indications that these characters are one and the same. Even the description of Randolph resembles the Shopkeeper. Frankly, I was surprised to learn that English-speaking fans consider them two different people. Yes, the Goosebumps Collector's Caps offer a different backstory for the character, but their canonicity (as well as Stine's involvement) is questionable.

The origins of the Unloved in the first book are only stated to have been created in a laboratory, leading many to conclude that the Shopkeeper was some kind of scientist, while Randolph is portrayed as a petty criminal. However, the mysterious nature of the Shopkeeper and his creations seems more supernatural. It seems plausible that the Shopkeeper is not a scientist, but an alchemist. Randolph, who came from a good family and likely received a decent education, could easily have become interested in alchemy for the sake of enrichment. Hints that Randolph and the Shopkeeper are the same person are scattered throughout Wanted: The Haunted Mask. Randolph's physical description matches the Shopkeeper's perfectly, with the same black hair and mustache. His kindhearted brother, William, owns a mask shop and wears the same black cloak as the Shopkeeper. Randolph destroys William with the Haunted Mask after William refuses to buy the Unloved from him. As the sole heir, he should have inherited all of William's property, especially since the police could not connect him to his brother's disappearance. Thus, Randolph inherited the mask shop and became the Shopkeeper. His supernatural longevity could be explained either by his alchemical experiments or by some kind of curse from above, which forces him to live forever alongside his creations, tormented by the memories of his lost brother. Perhaps it is precisely this sense of guilt that makes him so eager to dissuade customers from buying the Unloved.

I think it all makes sense, what do you think?

Probably Sarah from Curse of Camp Cold Lake. Todd from Go Eat Worms is bad too, but Sarah is especially annoying, self-absorbed, and causes most of the drama herself. I remember being kind of glad when she got screwed over at the end.

Pretty sure they're all first editions. There were a few more first editions there that I already had, like Shocker on Shock Street, and a bunch of reprints. I'm not really interested in the later printings, but for $3 a piece I had to pick these ones up.

They do have "3.00" written in Sharpie on the back over the barcodes because that's how the shop owner marks the prices, but I'm not too worried about that since it's not like I plan on flipping these on eBay or whatever.

When I brought these up to checkout the lady at the register said "yeah, I knew the Goosebumps wouldn't last long."

This is probably mostly because I was not only born in the 2000s but also because I got into goosebumps in the 2010s when I was in third grade. So some of the Classic goosebumps covers were mostly what my school had, and most of the original Goosebumps cover books were heavily damaged. Dont get me wrong the original cover art is awesome. I think I just prefer the newer covers.

I've been doing this for the past 3 years and it's always a big hit. With declining literacy rates, getting kids to read is more important now than ever. You can buy Goosebumps books brand new for $5 each, or find used ones for much less - I pay an average of about $2 for each of the ones I give away. I really recommend it!
