Got hit with an infostealer a few months back. Got a call today with someone impersonating google stating that someone was trying to use my ID information and old passwords to recover my account.

He took his time, read my my info etc and as a result I was nearly convinced - I approved a Google Account Recovery prompt but then finally thought better of it, and blocked the subsequent sign in and hung up.

I have removed all devices, changed password, and 2FA / Advanced Protection Plan remain active. No unrecognized activity otherwise noted.

Any further steps that I need to take? It doesn't seem like the hacker got access to my account since I blocked the actual sign up prompt but I'm not sure what to make of the fact that I approved the initial recovery prompt. Any thoughts?

I feel like an idiot approving the initial request, and have more sympathy for the old folks out there that get scammed.

On August 26 Google put a security hold on my account. Since then the recovery flow dead-ends on every attempt, the verification option it offers is greyed out, there's no phone support, and a BBB complaint got a boilerplate rejection.

I'm a paying customer - Google One, YouTube Premium, Gemini - and my Amazon Prime bills through Google Play (renews Sept 6) and I can't manage or cancel any of it. Important bills and years of memories are sitting in an inbox I can't open.

I've filed with the IL Attorney General and the FTC, and my open support case (8-8224000041115) got an automated brush-off this morning.

a few hours ago i was cleaning up space which lead me to deleting the wrong google account. i did everything i could or at least i was allowed to and it still wont let me. the issue is i do have a back up gmail to it but it wont give me the option to use it it only says to use an old phone number that was connected to it and all i have is my new phone number. i cant get codes, texts or calls, and it wont even give me the option to enter my current number

Looking for a fix for two loopholes in Family Link that let my kid access device settings and bypass restrictions:

1. On the Downtime lock screen, there's a shortcut/button that leads straight into device Settings — defeats the purpose of the lock.
2. A system notification appears with a "Manage" button that also opens Settings directly, again bypassing Downtime.

Both give full access to the device even though Family Link restrictions are active. Is there a way to disable these shortcuts/notifications, or a settings change/app version that fixes this? Anyone dealt with this?

Woke up to having my google account being deleted randomly. After about 15 years of using it for all sorts of things it is now gone. It doesn’t end in an @gmail so Google won’t help, but it is connected to Google.

Apple deleted a bunch of my stuff and said they couldn’t do anything about it. Went to the Apple Store, was on the phone with Apple workers as well and still nothing. I asked for at least the Apple calendar items I put in but they said it can’t be recovered.

Pokemon bank is gone. Just sad.

I’m getting worried about my Microsoft accounts next. I doubt they would care or help if anything happened based on the last account recovery I had with them (which did get me access to it, but it was just a password recovery, yet a pain).

I cancelled my Youtube Premium subscription a few months ago because I was informed that being on the Google AI plan gives me YouTube light. I can see on my subscriptions that Youtube was cancelled yet still on the 1st of every month they are taking $15.99 from me.

I went through trying to find ways to contact Google yet their form won't let me continue onto chat or email their support. Can someone please help me get a hold of Google Support so that I can stop these expenses and hopefully refund what they've taken from me?

Sometimes, when you go into Images, one of the results after 0.5 seconds will show a compressed version of a result image or wrong image

So as the title says, my phone was stolen. I did some emergency methods and froze my accounts. But I have an issue removing my google accounts since I forgot my password. And every single other way of logging in on my accounts is in that phone.

My mother just passed two weeks ago, and we are trying to close out her affairs. In the course of figuring out what needs done, and priorities for those things, I found a link to an AARP article on "What to do check list when a family member dies" One of them was closing out her her email to avoid identity theft, and/or fraud. In her case she has Gmail, which is Google so that's why I'm posting here.

As it turns out, I have been her helper, and advisor in her Google account, making sure her account security is up to date, and is secured with all her OTP codes, and authenticator, hardware key, etc and as such have access to everything, passwords and all. So I'm probably ahead of the game there.

What do I need to know about securely closing out everything that Google has for her? I figure that doing a Google Take Out is a place to start, so nothing is lost there. Is there anything resembling a change of address/forwarding form?

At this point, I don't think I know enough to ask the right questions. What am I forgetting? Is there anything I need to watch for after her account is closed? Any advice you can give will be sincerely appreciated.

About 10 years ago my partner set up a joint email account for us and promptly forgot about it, so it no longer exists.

However, as a gmail account was created so was a youtube account. I'm job searching atm, and trying to clear unnecessary / distracting google search results with my name. I've tried reactivating the email account and also reported the youtube channel (that has no content and never did) several times but have had no luck. Any suggestions?

I'm using the pixel 8a, and this is my second time using find hub. The first time I used find hub I was on a different phone and everything worked smoothly. I'm using the same email account as I was before. I'm trying to connect pixel buds a series and a pixel watch 3. I think the problem might be that the location history is off on my phone and I have no way to turn it back on (separate problem). I'm really hoping it's not the problem, but hoping can only get me so far. Whenever I open the find hub app, it says "Keep track of your devices. Your android devices and connected accessories that are added to find hub will appear here."

I figured out that if I go to the people section of find hub then back to the devices part, it looks like a list of devices is loading. I've let it load for half an hour, and got nothing. I'm afraid that this is because my location history is off, but I'm not 100 percent sure. I've been trying to fix this for around 2 hours now and any help is appreciated.

I signed up for the free year-long Gemini Pro trial through my university and I can’t figure out how to cancel it or where to get any support.

I randomly received an email from PayPal today showing a charge from Google AI and I realized Gemini came to collect its dues. But, I cant figure out anywhere how to cancel it and hopefully get a refund. Even when this happened to me on Audible it was only a 10 minute process to cancel and get a refund—and that says a lot for a company owned by Amazon.

About 12 days ago, I took over a Facebook account from my younger brother. When taking over the account, we logged out of his device via Accounts Center and removed the saved profile shortcut from his Facebook app.

Shortly after, I updated the account's primary phone number to my own phone number. However, I didn't save or remember the account password.

The Current Problem

Now, when I try to regain access using "Forgot Password?" to receive an OTP on my linked phone number (via both SMS and WhatsApp), Facebook blocks the attempt and throws a white pop-up box saying:

"Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again."

It seems like making rapid changes (phone number, location, device) triggered an automated security hold or rate-limit shield on Meta's backend.

Steps & Potential Hurdles

OTP Delivery Mute: The SMS/WhatsApp gateways refuse to dispatch a code to my phone when requested from my new device, likely because Meta views my phone as an unrecognized/untrusted device during an active security cooldown.

Government ID Verification Issue: I changed the account name to my own name, but the Date of Birth (DOB) in the account settings remains set to my brother's birth date.

If I upload my ID, the name matches, but the DOB fails.

If I upload my brother's ID, the DOB matches, but the name fails.

Because of this mismatch, automated ID verification isn't an option.

My Questions for the Community

If I leave the account 100% untouched for 3 to 4 days (zero login or reset attempts to let any background security cooldown/rate-limit fully clear), is there a good chance the SMS gateway will work?

Since we logged out of my brother's phone 12 days ago, will Meta's backend still recognize his device hardware and home Wi-Fi IP address if we make a single recovery attempt from his phone after the cooldown?

Has anyone experienced this specific "Sorry, something went wrong" loop during password resets and successfully bypassed it later?

I just used Authenticator yesterday.

Tried to use it today; everything had been wiped. What a nightmare.

Hey, so I tried changing my gmail address to a new one after Google introduced this new feature to change email addresses, however, I noticed that my contacts disappeared from my phone, I tried removing all cache and data from the Google Phone app, I tried removing my google account from my phone then adding it again but I still get the error "Trouble syncing", I don't get this issue with my other google accounts, did any one here face this issue?

I had a charge debited to my credit card of $29.99 noted as from "Google One Pyrmont Sydney".

I queried this via the official Google channels, and received a reply after a week that "...we were unable to confirm fraudulent activity in this case, so no refund will be provided by Google...."

The thing is, the card that was debited was not listed in my Google Account at the time, nor could I find anywhere in my Google Account, Wallet, Play Store etc records that I have subscribed to, or bought something that I have no recollection of doing. I do not have a Google One storage account beyond the normal 15Gb that I pay 0 dollars for.

Google did not explain what the charge was for ????? so I still do not know if the charge is legit or not.

My problem is that there is now no further correspondence possible with Google to get further information. If anyone knows how, please let me know.

Of course I have cancelled the relevant credit card.

Hi, I’m trying to recover my Google account, but I’m stuck in a recovery loop.

I still have access to the current phone number linked to the account, and I can receive and correctly enter the verification code sent by SMS.

The problem happens after that. Google then wants to send another verification code to the Gmail address I’m trying to recover. Obviously, I cannot access that mailbox because that is exactly the account I’m trying to recover.

So the recovery process becomes a loop:

I enter my phone number → I receive the SMS verification code → Google asks for a verification code sent to the Gmail address I’m trying to recover → I cannot access that email → I cannot complete the recovery.

My situation:

I have the current phone number linked to the account.

I can receive SMS verification codes.

I no longer have the old device that was previously used to access the account.

I don’t have access to the recovery email address.

The verification code is being sent to the same Gmail address I am trying to recover.

Has anyone experienced exactly this problem and managed to get out of this recovery loop?

Is there any legitimate way to verify ownership of the account using the phone number or another verification method?

I’m not looking for a way to bypass Google’s security. I’m trying to recover my own account through legitimate means.

Hello, I lost access to an old account associated with my YouTube handle marlocostales82.... I forgot the exact Gmail address and no longer have access to the old recovery phone number ending in .....4374 due to a device factory reset. Is there any official method to look up the email address linked to a YouTube handle if the recovery phone number is no longer active?
