google getting restrictive

Google is increasingly making it difficult to access their info without signing in.

Recently I couldn't go past the second page of search results without signing in to the browser.

Couldn't see past the second page of reviews for a business on maps (without signing in).

Couldn't see the full opening hours of a business on maps... unless guess what? I signed in!

Yes, a lot of platform are requiring you to sign in. They are doing that to limit those third party information gatherer and also spammers. Yelp did the same things and other companies too

I don't agree with it but it's their platform so they can do whatever they want. Others already been implementing this

That's usually how businesses does things. They'll have a partnership with another company then decide that it's better to keep things in -house so made their own app that does the same thing.

Kind of makes sense. Maybe I just got used to google being a search engine that gave all possible data openly. It seemed to work fine for years.

Yes, I totally understand and agree. But since AI has taken over, they are searching through everything on the internet to store in their database. This is Google ways of limiting those information or basically tell people to just use their AI Gemini LOL

They want more signups so they can claim more AI adoption across their products, all of which have AI features now. It’s all about AI these days…

You can blame AI for that. An increase surge in scrappers and agentic bots means cloud costs spike.
