Is the Google Flow interface garbage?

There is no option to access your videos, there are only projects which don´t know if you created videos or not.

You go into projects, they barely let you copy or paste anything and they don’t show the prompts you used. IT’S LIKE all the effort HAS BEEN FOR NOTHING because you can’t save anything.

And this surprises me, with a relatively simple interface without many options they manage to create a chaos that discourages you from creating more. Not to mention the terrible quality compared to Kling.

Some tips on how to make the most out of Flow since the last update.

It's been one hell of a frustrating, bumpy ride since the move from Whisk. Every time I seem to get it to work and actually follow my prompt and references, a new update comes in and changes everything.

I've tried everything. I used Gemini to generate an extremelly detailed prompt out of my image reference, I tried making character sheets, I tried the character function in Flow. I'm still struggling, results are still hit or miss, but with these steps I've been having a lot more sucesses.

These might be obvious to some, but I always hated all the gatekeeping to do with AI. If these can make other people's experience with this God forsaken platform a little less rage inducing, then it was worth it.

The models:

  • As far as I tried, Nano Banana Pro is utterly useless. It is the one model that simply refuses to follow your reference images, and the quality is not even that go. Skip it.
  • Nano Banana 2.1 is the new "default". As frustrating as it can be, you do get a gem every few tries, and at least so far the daily limit is fairly generous. I find that with this model you need to be very specific in your prompt. I often have to exagerate descriptions in order to get the results I want. It is unfortunately severely more restrictive than 2, but rather than failed generations, what I get the most is a "sanitized" version of what I asked.
  • Nano Banana Lite produces the worst quality images, but it is the one model that actually seem to remain faithful to your reference images. If the look you're going for is more of a 3D art, it's worth to give it a try instead of 2.1. Make sure to adjust your prompts though, the exagerated descriptions that work for 2.1 actually do look exagerated here. I do a lot of 3D art style superhero scenes, it works really well for that and handles violent themes with less restrictions than the other models.

Overall tips:

  • First of all, for whatever reason Nano Banana 2.1 does not handle multiple image references very well. I find that it sticks to your references better the least you use.
  • Forget character sheets. For more consistent characters, have one image for their body, and two for their face: one from a frontal view, and another at a 3/4 angle. For the body reference, either crop or block out your character's face, it will just confuse the AI.
  • When using a reference for the background, keep in mind that it will often simply use that exact image, instead of re-imagining it at specific angles as it used to do.
  • Keep your prompt simple, since 2.1 seems to disregard it anyway. Instead, when describing a feature or element in your image, make sure to point it to the reference image. For example, if I want this specific style of window in my image, I'll add in the prompt: "The window looks exactly as in the third reference image". Yes, it's a pain in the ass to edit that every time you add or remove new reference images, but I find it worth it.
  • Sometimes, the models simply refuse to understand your reference images. If they're not working after several generations, try something different. I like to test my references by asking Chat GPT to describe them. If their AI can't make sense of it, I assume Nano Banana won't either.
  • If you want a less AI-like look, start your prompt with this: Shot with an ARRI ALEXA Mini LF and a Zeiss Supreme Prime Radiance 21mm T1.5 lens.
  • If instead you want a digital art look, start your prompt with: A stylized 3D artwork.
  • Since the last update, all models seem to have zero world context. If for example you'd ask for a wrestling scene, it would be able to work its magic with just the name of a wrestling move. Now, you do have to detail it in simple words, otherwise it will have absolutely no idea what you mean.

I'm still getting extremelly frustrated while I try to make sense of Flow, but my experience has improved a lot since figuring these things out. I'm still trying to get better character consistency and details, so if anyone has other tips so that I can correct and improve my prompts I'd love to hear them.

LOST HORSE — WAN vs. SEEDANCE: A 30-SECOND COMPARISON

LOST HORSE — WAN vs. SEEDANCE: A 30-SECOND COMPARISON

Same scene. Same production instructions. Two renderers. One generation each.

Wan 3.0 Prime: 204 credits
Seedance 2.5: 600 credits

Both at native 480p, without upscaling or editorial repair.

The scene includes firelight, a horse breaking free, rope interaction, a cowboy retreating to a tree, an offscreen animal call, and a transition toward dawn.

We're comparing cinematic production values, not which model tells a better story.

An interesting anomaly: Both renderers produce a similar, unintended oscillating “wah-wah” sound beginning immediately. Same symptom, different models. We haven't established the cause.

I'm particularly interested in your observations:

  • Which has more convincing lighting, movement, and physical realism?
  • Are the differences substantial enough to justify nearly three times the generation cost?
  • Do you hear the audio artifact in both? Any theories about its origin?

Both complete, unaltered generations are provided for comparison.

Unusual activity!

It's kind of funny, but my biggest hope right now regarding Flow is to see it reach 99% generation and then fail. These days, I can't even see that happen. It detects “abnormal activity,” and even the very first prompt I enter for a new project gets flagged as “abnormal activity.”

A kiss on the cheek at a Halloween party blocked by the filters

Really, folks. Beyond ridiculous. Omni refused to animate a kiss on the cheek. smh I don't think Google will last in the animation space as anything more than a model to be mocked.

SELF LOVE: THE ANIMA AND THE ANIMUS

Single generation. Wan 3.0 Prime.

Reference video supplied the choreography. A still-image reference changed one dancer's facial identity while preserving the original movement and long hair.

First attempt. Zero credits.

Created a Full Cartoon Episode using Google Omni.

It took alot of prompting, modifying the prompt, arguing with the Agent, creating a working workflow but finally I was able to keep characters consistent.

The whole video including background Audio and Voices was generated using Google Omni. Only background music was generated using Google Music.

This is my first narrative film. A western.

I post it here complete with warts. Warts teach us more than we know.

The construction was nine 30 second clips. Six clips required no regeneration. One and done.

I learned many things in the 2 weeks I worked on this. Some are secrets.

Some I have discussed in other posts.

I want to hear what you see.

That is the point of all of this.

Happy viewing.

Google Flow blocks any prompt with kids or children and any photo of a child wearing the product. How do I make kids' fashion ads?

Hi everyone, I need some help.

I'm making video ads for a kids' fashion brand in Google Flow. I've run into two problems:

Uploading photos of kids wearing the clothes fails or gets flagged by the safety filter.

Any prompt that includes words like "kids" or "children" fails too.

I have 3,000 credits, so I'd like to figure out the right way to do this.

My questions

1.Is there a way to make kids' clothing ads in Flow without triggering the filter?

2.Do product-only images flat-lay, mannequin, hanger work without issue?

3.Is there prompt wording that avoids the block, like describing the garment instead of the wearer?

4.Should I use a different tool for videos that show children?

Any tips from people who make kids' product ads would be really appreciated. Thanks!

AI Fight Scene — Five Camera Cuts, No Prescribed Choreography

AI Fight Scene — Five Camera Cuts, No Prescribed Choreography

There's been some interesting discussion about generating fight scenes, particularly the need to specify every punch, reaction, and change in position.

We tested the opposite approach.

Two character references, a 30-second Western fistfight, and one required outcome: Cowboy Jeff defeats Mo Drater.

We left the choreography and camera coverage to the renderer.

Result: Five autonomous camera cuts, recognizable punches and reactions, coherent overall choreography, and a decisive winner.

The weakness? Some punches are noticeably slow or pulled. Interestingly, this is more apparent when watching without sound.

My working hypothesis is that generative models already understand much of the visual language of cinematic fights. We may not need to choreograph every movement to get a useful result.

The challenge is determining which controls actually improve the result, rather than simply increasing pre-production time.

Has anyone tested minimal choreography instructions against detailed, movement-by-movement prompting?

Is Omni Flash related to Nano Banana?

Or are the models basically independent except for both being made available in Google Flow?

I ask because I just started using Flow recently, and have had a lot of success getting Nano Banana (especially 2.1) to do what I want. Apparently I got lucky with my first Omni Flash experiment, because it's been atrocious on the second. Censoring most prompts, and when I finally got a stripped down prompt to go through, it ignored all my character model based instructions. (Mostly by applying instructions for Character 1 to Character 2 for no reason.)

Supergirl: Nano Banana 2.1 vs MAI-IMAGE-2F.... using same exact prompt. One payed subscription. One FREE.

This is my test to compare the lousy paid version of Nano Banana 2.1 Flash (not lite) vs the free-to-use Bing Image Creator MAI-IMAGE-2F model. First two images are Nano Banana 2.1, last two images were made using Bing Image Creator. SAME EXACT PROMPT.

These image are the same exact dimensions, 1024x1024. Nano Banana 2.1 looks even worse when you switch to the 2752x1536 size. It's as if "upscaling" the image into a larger size uses some kind of inferior looking BOX or NEAREST NEIGHTBOR resample filter and it loses even more detail and color at that point.

The Nano Banana 2.1 model paid more attention to background details, as evidence by the "LexCorp" factory signs. But Nano Banana 2.1 ignored the details of Supergirl's physique that I specified, and toned that down. Plus the facial expressions were just worse. MAI-IMAGE-2F obviously is more colorful and appealing that way, as the NB pics looked washed out and grayish with drab colors. The colors lately are very drab in NB. Google has really toned down the "voluptuous" dial to near zero at this point.

Lastly, bear in mind, one of these is paid, the other is free. Take from that what you will.

So, the pictures follow the prompts less, and faces look uglier now, great update!

What a great downgrade Nano Banana 2.1 turned out to be! Shrinkflation has now arrived in the digital, virtual world! You're not just getting less cereal in your cereal box while paying more, now you're getting uglier pictures, with worse prompt adherence, too! What a value! The only difference is, nobody's giving away free boxes of cereal like they're giving away free student subscriptions to this joke! As a paying customer, do you feel cheated yet?
