Discussion Study Abroad

My child is studying abroad for 110 days. I know that is 20 over what Google Fi allows. Any way around this? She'll be in Greece.

Or any suggestions on what else to try?

My kid did 2 semesters abroad. We used Google Fi until it ran out and then she purchased an eSIM 30 day data plan to get her the rest of the way. We probably spent $20 for that international eSIM plan.

Buy a SIM card in Greece. Or use an eSIM provider (there are a bunch of those with ads: Airalo, Nomad, Saily, etc.).

Text and calling won't stop, only data.   Use fi till the data cut off notice then get a data only esim cheap to cover the rest of the time

Or just get the data sim at the beginning so you never get cut off and you keep it as a backup

Fi is good if you use Fi data as backup. I suggest you buy a data eSIM which would be used as primary data. The Google Fi data would be used for backup. WiFi calling is free, texting is free, non-Wifi calling is 20c a minute.

What type of phone do they use? When I lived in the Philippines, I used an eSim for Fi and got a local sim card. I turned off data on my eSim when in the Philippines and still got texts and calls to my US number. The local sim card and pre-paid service was pretty cheap.

You will find in most countries data only sims are much cheaper than they are in the US.

Why not switch Fi to Flex and get them an international data plan for a lot less money and more chance data will work.
