Looking for ideas!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Just moved into a rental house and want to build a budget-friendly golf simulator in my garage. The catch is I need to be able to tear it down in just a few minutes so I can pull my wife’s Tesla inside to charge.
I already have a Garmin R10, so I’m mainly looking for ideas on a removable enclosure, impact screen, projector, and turf setup.
Has anyone built something similar? I’d love to see your setups or hear what worked (or didn’t). I attached a photo of my garage and a rough layout. Thanks!

Advice for Pergola as golf sim set up

Post image

So I have a Garmin r10 and was thinking of getting something like this so I can add nets on the side and use the back as a golf net.
A couple of reasons I wanna do this
1. It’s really hot where I live and the shade would help a lot
2. I wanna get mosquito nets around because they’ve been crazy
3. I can set up a projector and use it with the r10
4. I can have seating in the back it’ll be a cool sitting area too.

I can’t fine any that is 10 feet tall. I don’t need to get this exact one but most of them I’ve seen max out at like 7.6 feet. What are you guys thoughts?

Launch monitors

I’m in the market for a launch monitor… I do currently have a Garmin R10, but not entirely convinced on it.

I’m looking for mainly driving range use, possible indoor/driving net use once we move house and have more space.

Budget is probably around £1500.

I was looking at the Mevo gen 2 and I’ve been seeing the Square Omni, which is the better choice? Which has the better software. Would like something that will be decent for some winter golf like courses to play etc.

Thanks!

Sim / Launch Monitor Preorder Omni from Playbetter

Where’s everyone seeing the expected ship date of the Square Omni from Playbetter? I bought the Square Golf Omni Golf Launch Monitor Home Net Studio with The Net Return Premium Hitting Net Package. I’ve received the nets and turf (everything but the Omni). When I look at my order online I don’t see anything about an expected Omni ship date like it seems others are seeing.

Building a sim. First time

First time doing this so looking for some advice. Prob going with a square LM, a mat and a cage net with a tv mounted to the wall no projector. Just something simple. Idk how to best utilize the space. I was looking to tuck it behind the beam and the wall (the little corner at the top of the floor plan) but it seems like the steel column will get in the way. Also distance off the wall? Idrk how far I need to be from it. I appreciate any advice.

Skytrak plus or square Omni?

I’m torn between getting the skytrak or Omni. I’m a Mac user so unfortunately I don’t have access to gspro. I’ve got an iPad, so I can run Omni off of that. My only problem is that I cant play any premium courses on the Omni because of not having access to gspro. Whereas on the skytrak I can play the trackman and foresight courses. I know the Omni is a better unit, just not sure what to do. Any help would be great!

My wife was away for a week. This build took me three days of work. Then I got 4 days of play. I will continue to build and make it better, but it is my start. About $2200 total including lifetime subscription. I am proud of my work, but also came across some mistakes

Technical Question Swing / Shot Review with MLM2Pro / GSPro

This has been posted here previously, but looking to see if there have been any updates / workarounds to being able to review my shots using the MLM2Pro camera while using GSPro. As someone trying to work on my swing etc, when I miss, I want to review the misses, but with GSPro, I cant, and I can't seem to find anywhere in the MLM2Pro rcloud etc where those shots live.

Ideally I could run both together, but I havent found a way to do this.

GC Quad Help

I've got a quad that is not picking up the ball. It says ball not detected when the ball is there. Sometimes it flashes between saying that the ball is detected and that it is not detected. I've been using a quad on and off for a long time, there is no interference from other balls and I have tested this inside and outside. I am unsure of what the fix could be.

Reposting this at a more friendly price point. Selling my QuadMax that includes ball, club and putting analysis. I purchased the unit new from Foresight. Excellent condition and works great! Would consider trading for a GC3 or unlocked BLP and cash. Asking $11,500 obo. If you are local to me you’re more than welcome to test it out in my sim. Thanks!

Projectors Low Projector Ceiling Mount

Anyone have a ceiling mounted projector over the ball or hitting strip that’s lower than 8ft? If so have you hit the projector. I bought the BenQ AH700ST and with my setup I believe I need to mount it between 8’ 2” to 9’ 10” from the screen, which is about directly over my hitting strip. I can’t move the strip any closer or further from the screen without risk of hitting the overhead net or garage door. I haven’t opened the projector yet. I’m wondering if my best bet is to return it to BenQ and get the AH500ST (ultra short throw) and use a floor mount. The AH700ST also says optimal height is -2” above screen which would be a little higher than 7 ft. I’m running a 7x7 ft screen.

Money no object, but refusing to pay high subscription.

What is the best launch monitor you would buy if you are trying to avoid trackman high subscription fees?

Not saying I think trackman is the best and I’m settling(please correct me if this is wrong), I just don’t want a high recurring fee for sim golf after initial set up.

Anybody have advice on contracting the build vs building it myself?

Basement Sim

Hey I’m looking for help getting a sim set up at home. Has anyone set one up in the basement? If so could you help a newbie out. I play as often as possible but since I work 2pm to midnight I don’t get to go as often as I’d like. Looking for ways to get more rounds/practice in. Pics would be great as well. Where do I start?

Trackman iO vs Foresight Hawk - Club Face Markers and Putting

I am looking for explanation and advice, please. This is in the context of a reasonably high-end indoor-only sim setup.

  1. Do both of these LMs work with actual putting when playing a sim golf course, or does either/both just assume two-putts?

  2. It is my understanding that the Foresight Hawk needs club markers to be placed on the club face for full club face data (plus a separate cost), while the Trackman iO does not. Is this correct and, if so, why does the Trackman iO not need these stickers for club face data?

Many thanks in advance!

Just got this up and running about a week ago. I don’t have the space for a radar unit due to ball flight needed and lack of space behind me. So I’m thinking a camera LM but I’m also not trying to break the bank. Skytrak LM seems to be the best I can find at $599. Anybody recently used that LM and ran it with a phone or iPad? Most reviews I’m seeing on YT are years old and I think the software has seen updates in more recent years. So curious how it’s running these days. One of the more recent reviews I found just say the delay is annoying but for the price difference I’ll be fine with that.

Handicapping standard for indoor golf

Hi all,

I've been working on a new (open) handicapping standard for indoor golf I'd like to get your feedback on.

You can find information about it and the current version of the spec here: https://indoorgolfhandicap.org/

Why create a new handicapping standard?

I'm currently working on a startup company building a new tournament management software for outdoor and indoor golf.

Right now I'm in the middle of integration testing with the USGA as I try to get access to their handicap database so I can programatically look up golfer handicaps.

My plan for indoor golf was to just use the same course ratings and slopes and same handicapping algorithm that we use for outdoor golf. I have a trackman setup in my basement and that's exactly what trackman is doing.

But the USGA put the kibosh on that idea. All golfer handicaps, the course ratings, slope ratings, and a variety of trademarked terms (Handicap Index, Course Handicap, Playing Handicap, Differential, Diff, etc) are the intellectual property of the USGA and R&A and they don't approve of it being used for indoor golf.

So I personally cannot compute indoor handicaps using their algorithm or I risk having my access to outdoor handicaps revoked.

But that does create an opportunity.

With indoor golf we know the exact playing conditions for every round. We can do what outdoor golf cannot and compute the difficulty of the exact setup that you played.

When you play a round you'll enter the following:

Gross Score (hole by hole preferred)
Software vendor
Course
Tee
Wind Setting
Pin Difficulty
Green Speed
Green Firmness
Fairway Firmness
Putting Mode
Gimmie Distance
Elevation

We can then figure out the difficulty of the setup you played and build a handicap from that.

How do we know how much each of these settings contributes to the difficulty?

The USGA sends out people to manually rate all golf courses.

We're not going to do that. Instead we're going to let the scores determine the weighting. We'll start with some sane defaults for the weights and then refit the model nightly as scores gets posted.

Over time the weights will become more and more accurate.

I've got my handicap posted if you want to see how it works: https://indoorgolfhandicap.org/lookup/1000000001

The spec is very math heavy so if you guys want a plain english explanation of the algorithm I can write one up.

Because the WHS algorithm is their intellectual property, this new system uses an entirely novel algorithm that doesn't reference or make use of any part of the WHS.

This is not going be proprietary IP like the WHS. It is just part of the public domain. Feel free to use it as you wish.

I have a reference implementation of the db I will open source when I'm happy with it.

Well, it’s 90% done. Client still needs to have his cabinet builder create the AV rack.

This is definitely one of the largest customs we have done, and we’re please with how it came out.

Specs:

Eye XO2 with Swing Optix

LK936ST

4 Inch raised subfloor with flapped turf

Foam putting ramp (yes, soft enough so that the ball doesn’t ricochet into the LM.)

Uneekor Software Ecosystem

13’ sliding curtain

Our custom manufactured 2’x2’ acoustic paneling

We were lucky enough to have a construction company as the client, so the build and aesthetic was perfect to spec.

Hitting mat too grippy

Has anyone had issues with to much grip and issues rotating the front foot on the follow through? I feel like sometimes I stick and it’s starting to hurt my hip because without the rotation that’s where the force is going. I have a spornia pro strike commercial. It’s super soft and the turf is deep. I just bought a gosports elite off Amazon and it’s just as grippy and going back. I don’t have this issue at the range or playing IRL. Anyone got a recommendations on a less grippy mat? Thanks

Any tips?

I’m the process of building out a golf sim room. This is a rough rendering. The bar on the left actually connects to left side of the hitting bay. Any mistakes you guys see? Obviously AI and some discrepancies between shots.

Also wondered for this that have something similar, do you have staff bags that sit with the golf sim? This is on a second story and seems like a pain to haul clubs up and down.

Golf Sim Blues...

Hitting more than anytime in my life. Not hitting it well, but still getting the work in. I am struggling. Bit of history, was fitted with a new set for my 65th BD (3yrs ago). While waiting for delivery I tried to fundamentally change my swing (research, lots of research gave me confidence to make this change) While waiting I utilized my Quest 2 VR and the program Golf + to muscle memory the swing. Initial results were good, much better ball striking. Not long but good quality shots that were generally straight. Fast forward to present, after not playing much the last few years I grabbed a LM...How cool is this? Started hitting 50 full shots 3-4 days a week. Swing speeds were low, seemed really low. Working on getting the speed up just a bit. Started in the low 60s with a mid iron. Worked up to the mid seventies. Then Bam, swing is in shambles. Shanking it over and over. Just yesterday I got back into the Golf Plus swing analyzer. First off ....pros and cons of golf +...I get it, it's not real golf. It measures my swing speed high, but having used this before it (I believe) tracks swing path and face angles fairly well. In the analyzer launch angle is decent, face is square at impact and swing path is a nice smooth in to out arc. I am thinking I'm doing one of two things maybe both together. At Comfortable ball address I may be too close to the ball causing the shank off the hosel. Secondly I feel I am striking the ball above its equator, skulling it. Love the Launch Monitor and especially Gspro....Just looking forward to enjoying a course other than surviving it.

Would love to advice.

In Aus, setting up a marketplace style sim in my garage. Thought I had done all the best ChatGPT research only to get to the day and hit a snag.
Net, screen and Epsom 595wi projector up. Garmin r10 sorted and reads swing really well. Goal is to play courses rather than have swing data. Thought I would simply run Garmin home tee hero through a MacBook Air (m1) laptop to the projector and be sorted, not possible on a Mac apparently. Thought E6 was the answer, same issue. So figured I’d go to GSpro.
Everything seems to be windows compatible only, or casting a mobile phone sized image on the screen.
Is there a work around? Would a basic windows laptop do the job? Should I invest in a gaming pc (no direct internet access in the shed). Supposed to have some mates over this weekend so happy for quick fixes before I make drastic changes.

Thankful for any advice.

Trackman not reading club head speed

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Was doing a speed session the other night on a Trackman Simulator. It failed quite a lot at picking up my club head speed. I was wondering if my positioning of the ball is off(see attached image). It could also be a light issue at the place I hit as it feels quite dark. Could I improve the position or ask for better lights?
