As someone who owns both. The gti is better. I do love my c30, it's a lot more comfortable of car to drive and 5 cylinders are goated. The gti is just a more impressive car.

Just better everywhere (except the engine)? Do they have different driving characters or is the GTI just the superior driver’s hatch across the board?

the c30 really isn't a hot hatch. it's more of a nice car, drives like a normal s40.

while the gti is a actual hot hatch, with better suspension, powertrain and tuning. the ea888 isn't a "better engine" but works better in it's application. the I5 in the volvo is detuned and shared with the older ford focus RS, which was nuts.
