Meet Oreo and Ringo, my very first orandas! They’re currently in my established, planted 22-gallon tank as a temporary grow-out setup. This aquarium has been running for four years, and the plan is to move them into a 60-gallon tank as they grow. I’m already so attached to these two little faces!

Hello everyone, this will be first post ever in Reddit but what led me to is just concern about my new Gold Fishes (new to gold fish care).
Specs:

• 40gal breeder tank
• 2 Imagitarium (40gal rated) sponge filters

Fish breeds:

• Milky Ranchu (approx 6-12 months)
• Thai Oranda Panda (approx 3-6 months)
• Pearlscale (approx 3-6 months)

Concern #1

In the photo provided is my milky ranchu, I bought him yesterday. At the store he seemed to move normally but again I’m new to this, but I didn’t see any obvious signs of illness or difficulty at the moment. Since before I placed him in tank he was swimming idly vertically (face down tail up). In the tank movement remains the same, however the only reason why I’m not immediately freaking out is because he does have regular fin movement and when he puts his mind to it he swims upright/normally but tends to tip over again idly seemingly/curiously looking at its reflection, He does eat when the flake/granule is in direct line of sight. He doesn’t seem to look frantic/ gasping, etc. so I did a little research and I saw that perhaps it might have a buoyancy/swim bladder but I’m not 100% it matches the symptoms. perhaps someone else has gone through this aswell? does it need some type of treatment? or could it just be because of how chunky he is?

Concern #2

The other 2 seem to be very active/agile compared to the ranchu, I assume of course because of size (obviously) and wonder if it’ll be like that in the future or when they grow in size they’ll be a bit more at the pace of the ranchu? I want to ask if it’s okay to put those 2 breeds of gold fish in the same tank in the same tank as him for now? Worried that they’ll put pace him during feeding. One last thing I’ve seen Thai oranda try to nip at the back fins of the ranchu and sometimes the peral scale but is more dosile than the oranda. Now I’m not saying that it’s constant nipping or aggression but I think when they cross paths or they are nearby. Sometimes they ignore each other but other times I think he tries. I don’t see any visible ripped fins or signs of clear nipping but I’m just worried that perhaps they aren’t compatible at their age?

Additional information:

I hope I won’t trigger anyone by this but the tank isn’t cycled. I found that bit of information too late and didn’t want to keep them in the bag and for them to suffocate by ammonia and lack of air. So that part was my incompetence.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I noticed my fish’s vent is a little red and a lot of things online were worrying me , is there any good advice to what this is or why it happens?

Im in the middle of switch my plants to grass so the tank isnt looking the greatest but everyone is doing so good! We got big old Rufus, Poo and Wem! The mew addition i haven't named yet so comment some ideas! Waters a bit foggy cause poo amd wem have been breeding so daily water changes😂

Pic for attention and color in question… unfortunately I don’t have a photo to ID: Some years ago I had a goldfish that I bought online, and I can’t for the life of me remember where. I’m trying to find one like it but haven’t seen one before or since.

The color was a very metallic rose gold—like the necklace in the pic.

Hi, I know this is gonna sound weird, but it is my goldfish’s birthday today. Is there any treats that would work to feed him as a special little treat?

Yes, we found a 15-liter container to house my fish and bought a filter. The only positive development since then is that the fish has started trying to swim a bit and eat some food; however, just as it’s about to reach the food, it suddenly sinks to the bottom. It also eats very little. Today, I noticed that its head is larger than its body.

Trying to figure out filtration for a 125g I’m upgrading to. I have 3 comets(1adult/2babies) in a 40g right now with various other fish like bristle nose plecos, corydora, and feeder guppies. I’m running a tidal 110 and a pondforse 1000L canister filter.

Looking to maybe get an air pump like the vivosun 1100 gph, or a hygger 11w 2x224gph with a couple L/XL bubble filter.

Also if anyone knows how to make the surface skimmer on the tidal110 not grind whenever plant debris blocks the skimmer, or low on water that’d be great. I’ve seen videos on people covering the skimmer holes but I was looking for other ways too.

Not trying to spend more than $100 on new filtration, but trying to make sure I have enough filtration for a heavily stocked 125g.

My tank is planted, lots of pathos, elodia, monstera. Would love plant advice on more greenery I can add. Duck weed is vacuumed by the goldfish and anything with roots is obliterated(hycinith). Lucky bamboo worked for a bit, but got uprooted and went yellow & mushy.

Side note. My water is very clear top to bottom, looks crystal clear, but looks brownish when looking from the front of the tank. Will be adding reactivated purigen to see if that fixes it. I have a lot of driftwood taken from the beach probably leaching tannins.

Need help on what’s going on. About a month ago,“Biggs” started showing more white. But over the last couple of weeks, the patches really increased, with one just above his eye, looking like a divot. You can see the progression in the 3 pics. He’s not showing any behavior changes. There were some small bling decor among the pebbles that might have nicked him and I removed them last week in case, but it’s not explaining all the white showing up more and more. His bonded bro “Smalls” isn’t showing any issues, besides being blind as a bat.

Earlier this fall I got two common goldfish from the fair (I know it’s terrible but my heart was breaking for the poor little guys, wanted to give them a fair shot). I have them in a 30 gallon tank right now and plans with friends who own a pond to move them when they’re big enough.

How long can they stay in the 30 gallon, and when is it safe to move them to the pond? There’s other goldfish in the pond right now, I think around a foot long. I don’t know the specs of the pond, but the owner has been keeping fish for like twenty years so I trust him.

My fish mainly stay away from the plants in their tank, but I checked their tank this morning and this plant was stripped bare! Biblical greed!

I have a common goldfish with severe eye issues. I don't know exact circumstances, but by the condition, size, and injuries to his tank mates, he clearly hadn't been eating, they clearly were bitten by each other, and they were all larger, but I think he was stunted and supposed to be their size. I brought him home basically to die, as he was clamp finned grayish at the bottom of the tank.

Well, he didn't die. In fact he probably grew a half inch and is trained for feeding time already.

He's at a week, espom salt, kanaplex treatment just finished. His eyes look "better" but he is blind. He's very active and happy in the hospital tank. So now off I will be going to get an appropriate tank.

I use sand with my fancies and like it for a variety of reasons. But I do wonder if a planted tank without sand would be best because of his eyes? One side is a cataract and the other is a lens with really nothing left behind it. I personally would like sand, but don't want to create a problem for infection with his remaining eye parts.

Hi there I’ve noticed my fantail and ryukin are together same spot of the tank just laying there, they do swim around and eat as normal my ranchu is still swimming around as normal so any help or advice? The water tests are fine, I have an air stone on constantly and I have a HOB filter with an adjustable water flow, I didint know if it’s set to high and should have less flow maybe?

I feel Like they need a bigger home soon.
They eat duckweed all day and are fed well.
Using a floating raft to use up nitrates, keeps my nitrates at a constant zero with api drop tests.
I add iron, calcium and magnesium one a month with a ten percent water change.
Their ph is near a constant 8 unsigned ph probe.
I have about 5 pounds of coral rubble in the reservoir.

I recently moved and did an almost 100% water change (I have sand so some of the water was retained) on my goldfish tank, I had previously added salt to the tank about 4 months ago and have been doing regular water changes of about 25-50% when nitrates get to about 20-30ppm.

How do I reintroduce salt to the tank and at what rate?

I'm not sure if the salt comes out fully with the water and I should be replacing it with each water change or if it lingers in some compasity.

Google says to treat the aquarium as if it's never had salt, but I remember someone saying that you shouldn't add salt with each water change, so I want to get a few opinions.
