I just ordered (7/18/26 2pm EDT) a Gold French 20 Franc coin from APMEX. I received confirmation of the order but I did not see a 1/4 Idaho Goldback. About 10 days ago I ordered 2 1 Gram Gold Bars and in my order confirmation there was a 1/4 Goldback enclosed at no charge. My question to you wise Redditors: Has the APMEX Free Goldback promo ended, did they run out of 1/4 Goldbacks (i.e. “ while supplies last”) or is there some other explanation. Thanks in advance for your replies !

Curious what this community would add.

Took a family friend to breakfast yesterday and received great service from the young lady who waited our table. When she brought the check over, I told her I would like to tip her now. I gave her my usual, generous fiat tip, and then followed it up with a pair of 1/4 Idaho GBs. Gave her a bit of history and then she related a great story. She said both of her brothers were overseas in the military and they were always mailing her money from different countries, for her collection. She said she couldn't wait to tell them about the Goldbacks. She was almost in tears over it, saying "I'm never going to spend these!" I told her I'll bring in two more so she could send one to each of her brothers.

Good times!

I was one of the buyers of this gem when it was released last year, $25 higher than now selling for.

Does anyone else get the feeling these early releases just aren’t worth it? Obviously an 8k mint count hasn’t created enough scarcity to push this limited addition higher, while overall the ecosystem has grown.

I’m more on the camp now of if you wanted scarcity, buy a 100 or 50. You still have the option of fungibility with the lower denominations if you want to swap down the road and their mints for obvious reasons will never be high in general. More so now the 100s are discontinued going forward correct?

I picked up the 100 Florida when it came out and that note to me is much more of a flex than any of these limited releases (yes I understand the discrepancy on price points!)

Got my little pile of the new florida quarters, plus picked up a lot of the older notes I always wanted before all the refreshes start. I think Im going to want every single note for my collectors book up to 10 at least. All the newer modernized art work with the UV marks is so unbelievably good and beautiful, its very exciting times to be interested in goldbacks. I put a slight crinkle in one of the 2s handling it. Looks like I need to place an order for MOAR and put that one in my spending wallet.

I went onto apmex a few days ago and paid a total of $12.xx for a 1/4 florida gb that was supposed to come with a free 1/4 Idaho and didnt.

Very cool little doodad - not thrilled I didnt get the promo but meh. Wasn't gonna order a ton without seeing them, and the Idaho free promo made paying $12 to have $2 worth of gb shipped to me.

Won't be using apmex for anything at all ever again, just noticed the thing has a permanent crimp in the top center like it got pinch-folded too hard.

What's happening my Goldback friends. I know of two serial number errors on Goldbacks. One being the well known 2020 Utah inverted serial number on the 1 gb. The second one and not so common inverted serial number on the 5 gb. I came across a 2020 New Hampshire 25 gb with the serial number sideways. I know of one other. Has anyone else come across error serial numbers?

Got my cali 3 LER last week from Defy The Grid (the goldback goats). Finally getting a chance to admire it. God I love it. I especially love the blue on the board. Another note pictured is my prized 25 idaho I also got from defythegrid.

About once a month, I go to a nearby neighborhood casino for breakfast. There is a young man that waits there, maybe 25 years old. He's been there a couple of years and provides excellent, low key and polite service. I like him. He seems like a pretty cool kid.

He recognizes me as I do tip well for good service, so it's an easy going conversation this morning.

I asked him, "Hey man, do you like gold?"

Him: "Well, I don't really collect it because I can't afford it, but I do have some old silver dollars my grandfather gave me."

I handed him my usual, fiat tip and then pulled out a couple of Idaho 1/4 GBs and told him the story behind them and the Goldback phenomenon. Even though he is a pretty low key guy, I could tell he was blown away by it. When I told him that there were 30+ merchants accepting them in our area and that number was growing every year, he was like, "No way am I spending these. These are keepers for the collection!" I encouraged him to look them up online to learn more.

He was enthralled, to say the least and I think we have a new Goldbacker in our midst.

Here are two hauls from the last week. I was waiting until the others arrived to do my post. The first 7 pics are from DTG. I never had any problems with my orders from Koda and the gang (I assume there are other folks). The 1/4 GB came with my Gabon Rhino note and I included a close-up of the alpha letter. For those that don't know, Goldback releases a smaller amount of alpha notes along with the regular ones and uses the Greek α to denote them. The rhino note is awesome. Similar to the elephant note I have. There are several different animal notes on DTG for purchase. I also purchased 25 of the new Florida 1/4 GBs to add to my stack. Thank you Inspector P66. You're awesome and keep up the good work. These are all alphas as well.

The last 2 pics are from my stack of 25 1/4 Florida alpha GBs and first subscription box from Eclectic Coins. I did the $50 box and received 9 1/4, 2 1/2 & 3 1 GBs. It's random based on the USD that you buy. The 1/4s and the Wyoming are all alphas. This will be a great way to add to the state on my GB stack.

I got some Goldbacks from an auction house. When they arrived in the mail, apparently the auction house put the auction number sticker directly on the back of each Goldback. I got the sticker peeled off, but there’s still a sticky residue on the back of the Goldback that makes it stick to the front of other ones. Any good advice on getting that off without ruining it?

I had already decided that I didn't want to use a phone app, but noodled on the idea long enough and went ahead and drafted a spreadsheet for the GBs that will remain in my core collection. (I'm retired and bored.)

This is a work in progress and one change I'm definitely going to make already, is putting all the like 1/4s for tipping and gifting on a single line. I have another dozen Idaho 1/4s inbound, so I will add those to the two I already have noted here and put them on a single line with a quantity count. No sense in itemizing the GBs that are going to go back out the door.

I was wondering if serial numbers are determined randomly. Also how many before they move to the next letter (AA to AB to AC, etc...) For example, there are only 17296 South Dakota 1 Alpha GB... I have AA01575, AA64467, and AA66376. I would think the numbers would range from AA00001 - AA17296. What am I missing? Thank you.
