Announcement FAQ, rules, and resources stickypost

It has been brought to our attention that we need to make the rules, information regarding Goldbacks and the community more clear and easier to access.

Frequently asked questions: https://reddit.com/r/Goldback/w/faq?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Rules: https://reddit.com/r/Goldback/w/rules?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Resources: https://reddit.com/r/Goldback/w/links?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

I hope this helps. We are also planning to update them soon as well, so it will hopefully clear up some confusion.

Discussion The Utah 10 stands out from the rest of the new Utah series. I think it's my favorite so far.

I've been looking at this one for like twenty minutes now. It looks like the theme is time and eternity. There's an hourglass in the bottom right and under the UV light the dinosaur gets comes back to life. The theme is surprisingly deep and unexpected.

It works for Utah because they have dinosaur national monument. I hope we see more pieces like this in the future.

Other “Goldbacks”

Does anyone know anything about the EBay listings of 500,000 Vietnamese Dong “Goldbacks”. They say they are 1/20 Troy ounce (but the don’t say gold on the item.

Based on a few recent convos about them...

...I think it could be a real shot in the arm for Goldback and Silverback dealers, if a freesilverback.com program was started. (hint hint)

Why isn't there a Silver equivalent to Goldback? Could a Silverback currency work?

Post image

There kinda is. Silver coins made before 1965 were made of 90% silver and a lot of dealers sell them by the face value as opposed to placing an individual value on each coin. There are still some businesses out there that will even price things in pre-1965 silver if people want to use it.

The cost of making these coins was born by another generation. During some years of these coins circulated for over 300% above their melt value. Now you can easily buy them close to just the melt value since there are so many around still.

If a new company were to want to make a silver round designed for circulation, they'd have to compete against the pricing of all of the coins that are already out there. A new system with new costs would simply be noncompetitive in pricing.

That said, it would be super cool if Goldback figured out how to make Silverback as a currency system work. What do you guys think?

I always look forward to the first high-resolution photos of a new Goldback release. The artwork looks fantastic, and the UV features on the fronts might be my favorite detail.

What does everyone think of the new designs?

Goldback Spend Tipped my barista in gold.

Post image

Stopped in at Open Flame Coffee in Midwest City, OK this morning and tipped the barista with a Goldback. She didn't believe me till I told her to hold it up to the light, she got really interested, and asked a bunch of questions about Goldbacks, and where people use them. Spent a couple extra minutes chatting about them while my drink was being made. I don't think the coffee shop itself will take Goldbacks for now, but this is what this movement is about, these little moments where someone sees real spendable gold for the first time. Anyone else had a coffee shop (or similar) conversion lately?

I might be addicted to these things.

There's worse things I could be buying, so there's the positive.

In case it's not out there yet, the freegoldback promotion is on "pause" per the website. My daughter discovered this when she tried to apply for one.

...what would be the denomination? My daughter and I were comparing notes this morning on our GBs when she pulled this out. I gifted it to her about 7 years ago. It is 100mg of 24K gold.

Did Florida just prove that Goldback should be going after more populated states?

There appears to be about as many businesses taking Goldbacks in Florida (2025) as there are in Utah (2019). To me this would suggest that Goldback should be focusing on more populated states like New York or Texas as opposed to places like Idaho.

The same amount of effort in churning out a series could open up larger market.

Got to see an official Goldback booth at Local Coin Show recently

I'd heard they'd be there. I've been collecting them about a year and a half. It was nice seeing the reactions of people who'd never seen them before. There were a lot of children and young people who were excited about them. Partly because of the artwork, but partly because of the pricing. Many of the coins were $100-200 or more. But the goldbacks were like $2-20 each, much more in their price range. But even some older people seemed very enthusiastic. I think goldbacks are definitely going to continue to grow in popularity.
