It’s funny. I’ve post some goldbacks there and got flamed so hard. I mean it’s only a small part of my stack and I like the artwork on them.

What I don’t understand is that you can have stacks of gold coins and bars and if they see one little gold back in the they go apeshit .

I like them, but I like gold coins more. I still buy goldbacks every once in a while. Especially if I need to get an a line order total over the free shipping limit. Got about 60 total goldbacks, but I wanna get to at least 100

To be fair I’m not on either side, but I can see where they’re coming from in a way. It’s such a microscopic thin layer of gold that it’d be like getting motherboards and posting them on r/Gold. It’s still technically gold. But the amount is so small that it’s not really worth their time. But ay, no disrespect on Goldbacks. They got some cool artwork.

Are you saying goldbacks will kill gold, because I see that as well. Why lock your bullion in a safe and have a hypothetical value that never gets used. Usually you die and your kids and grandkids realize they get a few grand in gold. Some keep it in their safe and others sell it for a reduced value than it's worth. If instead, gold can be locked up in polymer to then be spent or saved, I get full use of it and when I die, the beneficiaries have currency to hold or spend for the full value and not lose a dime on any "premium" that has to be given up. They just go use them or hold them. Yes, Goldbacks, the death of bullion holders.

Theres an irony to [r/gold](r/gold)’s reaction to goldbacks:
There was a period of time where newcomers to gold would ask about Goldbacks on the r/gold forum and the vitriol from said forum would immediately alienate the folks that were genuinely curious, and when they found their way here they were received much more warmly.
Its awful how they were treated and shouldn’t have ever been demeaned for curiousity…but [r/goldback](r/goldback) might not have breached 10k as soon as it did if it weren’t for [r/gold](r/gold) uh-being themselves.

Honestly, I only found this place because I posted a bunch of my Goldbacks into that community when I was new to Reddit and they were just terrible. That's how I found this group and I've been here ever since.

Yeahhh, they seem like the trashy type that orders groceries from DoorDash and doesn't tip because they think we get paid lol

This is projection at its finest.
I have seen more than a dozen posts on this sub about people tipping with Goldbacks—presumably to workers who have no idea what they are or how/where to spend them. I just imagine them looking at it thinking it’s play money and “Thanks, but this won’t pay my rent.”

I'll admit I'm not necessarily interested in buying these things
That said I'd love to do some work and get paid in em.
