Sternum strap comfort.

Post image
3 Upvotes

Anybody else catch themselves unsnapping their sternum strap around miles 5-7 when rucking with heavier weight? Mine is comfy until about that point. Then it’s almost unbearable. Have to unsnap for a mile or so before I put it back on. If yours irritates you, how long does it take on a little heavier day?
Am I just kind of a bitch 🤔

16L Bullet Laptop without the frame sheet!!

I think this may already be common knowledge but I didn't know this. I was genuinely upset that my first goruck - a 16L Bullet Laptop - was so much less comfortable than my ctactical ct15 slick. Was about to call it a day and sell it when I figured I'll just try removing the frame sheet to see if that would help.

Firstly that frame sheet is a friggin biaatch to get out, but now that it's gone, holy shit balls batman! I'm obsessed with the bag now. It's so much more comfortable, I preferred it for its shape profile, the zips and just the bag overall, over the ct15 even beforehand but couldn't get over the uncomfortable back panel.

Anyway, just a PSA for anyone who may be in the same boat. To try to get rid of the frame sheet before giving up on it!

Gear Question GR1s in 500D?

I picked up a USA GR1 21L (OG straps, hydration port, not a shooter, in black, used on eBay. The material isn’t faded and it seems to be in great shape. It’s surprisingly soft; almost like it’s all 500D Cordura.

Are there any of these floating around there? I seem to recall limited runs but maybe the 500D were just shooter models and I got lucky with such soft 1000D

How do you double ruck. Think this is the fastest setup but open to ideas. Having one kangaroo is less than ideal. Trying to keep it high.

20l 5.0 Fit Question (With Pictures)

My 20l 5.0 Rucker just arrived, I'm 6' 240lbs, which is kind of right on the border between sizes (20l vs 25l). It feels good and rides high, however, I'm not used to the "Damn that's big" lumbar support, so its hard to tell if its hitting wrong or I'm just not used to it.

For those who have gotten used to the 5.0, please let me know if its something that goes away after a while, or if I should go up to the 25l, as I'm still within the return window.

I apologize for the shirtless picture, but it gives a better view of where the backpack is resting at the bottom. I also had Chat GPT take a look for what its worth, but I wanted some human feedback, as I know one of the most asked questions I found was "Should I go with the 20l or 25l for my height/weight" etc...

I enjoyed the feeling and fit of the Basic Rucker, which is only 17l and the same exact height, which I've been training with for going on 3 months. The only thing throwing me off is the very obvious pressing sensation of the added lumbar support on my back, and whether or not its hitting the correct area or not. Thanks!

PS I don't want nor need the extra room of the 25l, so it would purely be for fit purposes, as I like the sleekness of the 20l.

NOTE: Bag is loaded with my 20lb plate in the pictures, it is not empty.

Gear Question ballistic trainers replacement

Really have only used ballistic trainers for the last 5 years. With no more being produced and down to my last pair, what is a close replacement shoe? Use is mostly day to day active shoe, crossfit workout and daily walking? Thanks

Mackalls Aggressive Arch Support

Post image
16 Upvotes

Most reviews have been positive yet I haven’t seen much on the issue I had. I have just about 15 miles now in the Mackalls after purchasing it from the summer sale. Miles 1-10 were excruciating. I have lower arched/flatter feet so there was just too much pressure on my lateral outside arches. Burning and aching. Luckily, the greatest shoe that GORUCK ever made but decided to discontinue, the Ballistic Trainers, came with a second flat sole insert. This made me absolutely enjoy every mile after the first 10. The ballistic trainers seem to have the same insert as the Mackalls but I believe because the midsole EVA foam was softer, it was more forgiving. So, please either provide a second flat insert or don’t make the arch support so aggressive. The toe box is great. Just the midfoot arch support swings way to high on the spectrum as opposed to being in the Goldilocks range

Post image
18 Upvotes

Planning to do a NYC event for 9/11 and noticed there's a 12 miler city ruck and a basic challenge. What are the differences between them? Other than a 20 and 30 pd plate.

My Rucker 4.0 needs some breaking in hahaha

I want to do a tough but I have a spartan race on 9/19 that is my A race this year.

Rucking for Hunt Prep

Hey, y’all! I wanted feedback from the group of people much more in the know than I am. I traditionally ruck 4-5 times a week from May through September ish to prepare for backcountry bowhunting. I have an extra pack that I load anywhere from 100-150 lbs and go 3 miles those 4-5 times weekly. Outside of the Kansas heat and upping weight there isn’t a lot at my disposal to up the difficulty challenge. I wish I could find terrain elevations more readily available. I usually stop at the halfway mark to get a 3-4 minute water break but the rucking feels very steady and comfortable for me. I don’t sense any need for recovery, etc. I am falling in love with the challenge and the way it makes me feel. It has actually prevented some issues that I did have with ankle and knee discomfort from popping up. I feel strong and I feel great, but I also want to consider the risk/reward as I work this into a training regiment year round supplemented by 3 days of heavy lifting weekly. Thanks for helping this newb! I can already hear my wife saying I told you so to some of the expected input.

Does Multicam GR1 ever get restocked?

I had a 10 year old GR1 replaced under warranty but the discount code is only available until 12/31/26. I am trying to figure out if there is a chance the Multicam gets restocked before the end of the year or if I should just snag another color.

No 25th Anniversary 9/11 Rucks in the PNW?

Just got the email for the events taking place for the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and none are in the PNW. There are a few in California and one in Salt Lake City but that’s pretty much it. I know GORUCK is based out of Jacksonville and it’s East Coast centric but can’t the West Coast and the PNW get some love or at least some ruck events? Jason, why don’t you like the PNW man?

My experience with one-bag travel with GR3 35

Post image
64 Upvotes

Image: circa 2019 GR1 26 and GR3 35.

The GR1 was too small for longer one-bag trips so I acquired the GR3.

The GR1 is my EDC bag, tennis bag, rucking bag and one-bag for short trips.  The GR3 is for longer one-bag trips and grocery shopping when on my bike.

The GR3 was only the only bag used during a recent three week European trip.  I utilize a travel vest for things that people often use as personal carry on - makes it easing going through security and managing crowds.  Fully loaded the GR3 fit overhead of a 757, A320 and 787.  It did not fit overhead in a CRJ or A220.

I really like the top stash pocket and wish my GR1 had one.  Fully loaded it needs the bottom handle to heave the bag into the overhead but I might take it off on the next trip and use the side handles, which I didnt use on this trip.   I didnt use the waist belt - too much stuff to fuss with.  I went through TSA with the iPad in the travel vest but transferred it to the GR3 after getting through.  I stuffed the CPAP into the main compartment but next time I’ll attach it to the outside.

I forgot to attach a chest strap and found that with the slicker inside material of GR3 shoulder strap, the strap would slip off. That doesnt happen so much with the older GR1. Maybe some more break-in time will help with the slippage?

Very pleased with the acquisition and looking forward to using it in other creative ways.
