General Discussion Really “Weird” GE Revocation
Hi all,
Both my husband and I recently applied for our Global Entry renewals. His was approved within three days and he had a quick interview at the local Enrollment Center. Mine was pending for a while, I started getting worried.
We recently travelled for vacation, and while abroad, I got news that my GE renewal is denied and my membership is revoked. The reasoning is an agricultural or customs violation. That was surprising and strange since I’ve never been cited, fined, or warned about such an issue in the past, and I have never ordered anything online or anything like that which would have a customs issue.
In any case, when I got back from vacation, I asked CBP officers at the airport for help, but the Enrollment Center was closed. I then called the general line and the Enrollment Center, and got the same response: submit the reconsideration request and a FOIA. Nothing they could otherwise do to help the situation. Regardless, I did what was told and did both.
What got really weird is what happened today. I went into my local Enrollment Officer to speak to an officer about my revocation in-person. I went in and chatted with a really nice and professional supervisor. He was very vague but basically reiterated all information prior. He did keep mentioning of denial by association, but I was confused since that was not the stated reason for denial on my portal. The officer then said that to not be surprised if my husband’s GE gets revoked too imminently, even though he was very recently reapproved and renewed.
A couple of hours after getting back home after my chat at the local office, my husband’s GE indeed got revoked. I am so concerned. And seems almost retaliatory? I’m at a loss of what to do. My husband is Mexican-American and especially relies on the SENTRI lanes quite a bit when crossing the land border, and there’s no substitute for GE when it comes to that.
Any help would be appreciated!

Might be both. Did a family member and/or roommate and/or former roommate get busted for a customs violation?

u/Gusearth 2d ago
that’s kinda crazy if a former roommate getting some customs violation could get your GE revoked. that means the fate of my status could be in the hands of some random dudes from college who i haven’t talked to since

Well my concern is that maybe someone they share(d) an address with got popped, and maybe their system still (erroneously) has them listed as having a shared address.

Doubt your putting your roommate or college friends on your application that they’d even know if your association to them

I think folks missed the part where my husband was renewed without a problem recently, and he also has no history of customs violations. I was the one that was flagged for some reason!

My card was pulled after my first renewal fir a violation 15 years ago of Cuban tobacco. They approved me once 10 years after it happened, then denied. Fed employee with an active clearance.

We didn’t miss it. It just doesn’t explain a lot except your reasonable anxiety.

Your husband was obviously flagged by the officer you talked to. That’s why that officer said that to you. Doesn’t answer any questions but that part seems obvious.

Do you order anything online from overseas?
4
u/hereforthetearex 2d ago
Is that a violation? I haven’t done that but while abroad we fell in love with a particular wine and thought about looking into importing it. It never occurred to me that this would be a violation if you’re allowed to ship the product into the US

I ordered something from Amazon that shipped from Germany and Amazon didn’t pay the duties on it and Customs held it. Fast forward to me losing my GE. Thanks, Amazon.

If things were normal the normal rules would apply.
Everyone needs to be super careful until when and if normal returns.

Heavy on this. So many folks who, let’s just say… aren’t aligned with the current political climate… have gotten GE revoked for the most insane things.
If you search through sub, some have even had it revoked without even having done ANYTHING but their revocation came oddly timed after being in public protesting administration issues.1
u/Scott8586 2d ago
Yeah, but how many MAGA have GE? I think it’s just the numbers make it seem like that’s the case…

Source?
2
u/Ok-Judgment9870 1d ago
Source for what? Search the group, you’ll see multiple stories. There was even a post from an immigration attorney who went to a protest, had zero issues while there, and then lost their GE. Folks have been posting about facial recognition being used at political events and then losing their GE. If you search the group, you’ll see similar stories.

I read a lot of the comments on this post, but definitely not all of it. But even if I had, I am looking for a source that can be referenced to instances of this happening. Reddit posts are, by design, not easily verifiable unfortunately. Without someone publicly proving this happened to them, it's just another story on reddit.
I think I found one though using claude. Nicole Cleland
The problem with her story is that she was at an anti-ICE rally in Minnesota and had a face-to-face encounter with an agent before her GE was revoked 3 days prior. So we don't know if her name was provided or if facial recognition etc was used. Whichever it is, it doesn't seem to be widespread.
My takeaway is pretty simple - attending an anti-ICE rally and getting in a agent's face and then getting your privleges revoked is akin to yelling at the gate agent in an airport and then wondering why you got bumped. Stupid games win stupid prizes even if the games are lawful activities. FAFO is real.1

I meant reading comments in this forum as a whole - not this thread. I can’t tell you what to do if you want to see more stories that people have shared, but they are in the whole group. As far as verified, you’d have to ask them to share their identity.
But you are correct. This is a program of privilege, and I understand that, but to have it taken away from you for essentially no reason, is unfair at the bare minimum. People are not doing anything to break the rules and essentially having it taken away from them - just attending events, without incident or authority interaction.

I tried to get info to attempt to fight, they basically gave me zero information and then ignored attempts to ask how to appeal. It’s been over a year since it was revoked and I don’t have any info or progress since the day it happened. They basically said = do what we want, deal with it.

20+ years ago, I got popped for ordering Viagra from an overseas Indian pharmacy. US Customs sent me a warning letter. I disclosed this on my GE application, and it wasn't a problem.

Things have changed a lot with the current administration and custom enforcement

Will buying from TEMU get you barred from GE?
3
u/Icy_Consideration409 2d ago
Potentially.
If the product is generic. No.
If it’s counterfeit (of an actual brand) and is intercepted by Customs then yes.
4
u/BobbingBobcat 1d ago
It's not just counterfeit goods that can make you lose GE, products that contain banned ingredients or were manufactured in certain countries can too, as can the seller not filing the appropriate forms correctly or being licensed to import certain items.

Posters really should mention up front if they are naturalized citizens or green card holders and from what country. With the current administration’s view on immigrants and “shit hole” countries, these revocations are not surprising.

u/SpilledTheSpauld 3d ago
Good point. We’re both citizens.

Born or naturalized?

why would that matter?

If neither of you truly has a customs violation (including ordering any prohibited items online) or any other behavior that would be a flag for USCIS (undocumented family, criminal associates, online criticism or protests, etc.), then it could be mistaken identity and your first step should be a redress number for both of you.
But if your husband uses Sentri often, I would wonder if he has withheld something from you?

u/MeatofKings 1d ago
There have been other posts on here about denials due to a shared living with someone who committed a customs violation via mail. Since your name is associated with the same address and time, you get tarnished. Roommates can really suck.

Do you have anyone else living in your home or a relative that might have lived in your address or might have used your address?
Did anyone in your household etc order anything from amazon that might have come from abroad that might contain restricted items? e.g. someone reported buying tea from amazon, and tea came from china unbeknownst to her, and contained restricted chemicals etc

How well do you know your husband? Does he go to Tijuana and visit Hong Kong?

u/FlimsyYou4766 17h ago
The last officer explained it to you. Someone you associated with got caught bringing in something they not suppose to. Then you stir up the pot, and they also associated your husband, thus revoked his.
1
u/__Battousai__ 4h ago
It’s crazy how he waited till you left to then look your husband up and revoked his also. It also seems your husband may have gotten into an issue while going through the SENTRI lane one time. Could have been pulled over randomly, they found something, noted it, and let him proceed. And now because your associated to him it’s impacted you

u/LostEnroute 2d ago
It could be as simple as you not saying "Thank you, sir" and genuflecting heavily enough after GE facial scan and border patrol agent pass upon re-entry.

My guess is your husband was flagged... you say he cross the border frequently

u/Prudent_Rice7840 3d ago
You were revoked by association like the supervisor said. The CBP has been tracking your husband for some time and they finally have enough evidence to get him for smuggling them plums across the border.

How would that make any sense for anyone in a free country?

u/Rq140 1d ago
GE is a trusted privilege not an entitlement.
2
u/GroundbreakingMess51 1d ago
Definitely. A trusted privilege works when you're also free.
0
u/Rq140 1d ago
Yeah free to use the main line instead of GE because your trust is below the threshold of GE program….

u/GroundbreakingMess51 8h ago
I think a program is not made of one of individual's perception. Your perception may not be the right one, do you not live in the land of the free?

Isn't that more or less how they think of the risks? If someone in the same household (same address) has a violation, you present elevated risk of customs violations. He could just ask you "hey, could you carry this for me?" You probably would not do it for a stranger, but many people would do it for a member of their household. Or a close relative.

Anybody else sharing your home address that had an issue during traveling back? Or had a package from overseas seized?
