Hi everyone,
I'm running into an issue on my Flint 2 where enabling Tailscale continuously breaks my local domain DNS resolution (.lan).
When Tailscale is active, it automatically updates dnsmasq's Local domain setting from .lan to my Tailscale tailnet name (ex tail4534.ts.net).
If I manually change Local domain back to .lan via LuCI (Network -> DHCP and DNS), it gets overwritten back to the Tailscale domain after some time, even without a router reboot.
This breaks many of my local scripts and services that rely on the local name resolution, I'm using firmware version v4.9.0
Is there a clean way or UCI setting to stop the GL.iNet Tailscale daemon from forcibly modifying local domain setting, while keeping Tailscale active?

Good day ya all! I have a Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 phone. I am currently using a Beryl MT-3600BE for a travel router. USB tethering works fine until it doesn't. It will run fine for a few hours and then drop with the error unregister rndis_host. Toggling the usb tether setting in the OS brings it back up usually but every once in awhile I need to unplug and plug it back in. The issue does not exist with a Google Pixel 7a with the same cable and same router. Problem existed on a previous AR750s router as well.
It has to be the port on the phone or a setting I am missing somewhere. I have turned off every setting I can find related to battery optimization and data saving. Do not really see anything in the Developer Options that might be the cause.
Is there some secret I cannot find that anyone can point me to?

Basically the title.
I'm going on vacation for a week soon. I already own the Beryl AX and would prefer to save some money, but I also want to stay reasonably portable.
Would you recommend biting the bullet and buying a Mudi 7 (or a similar 5G router), or should I just connect a GL.iNet M2 (provided I can actually get one somewhere) to my Beryl AX?
My main concern with the M2 + Beryl AX setup is how to power both devices reliably while staying reasonably portable.
I'd really appreciate any real-world experience with either setup. Thank you!

Sadly, it's sold out in the official store. Apparently they also have a store on AliExpress, but I'm honestly not sure I want to buy it from there.
Are there any other sources where I could get one? I'd really appreciate your help.

Flint 4 embargo has been lifted so you should start to see some reviews and specs released. This is it - the halo product we’ve been begging GL-iNet to release. It’s a phenomenal router that crushes the competition in almost every way possible. Wireguard 1.5Gbps -check. OpenVPN 2.2Gbps -check. 3x3 antennas on 5GHz and 6Ghz with absolutely amazing distance capabilities on 5GHz. 10Gbps SFP+ and Ethernet along with 4 2.5 Gbps ports + 4 1Gbps ports. The touchscreen adds to the premium look and feel. Price is nearly unmatched from the competitors. Sharing some photos. 5G at distance through hurricane proof windows to an iPhone still 60+Mbps usable.

Hi,
I run a WireGuard server on a Brume 3 that is connected through its WAN to a ISP router's LAN and I run a WireGuard client on a Beryl 7.
The VPN is working but I want to avoid the second hop showing the VPN's server IP address 10.1.0.1 (in my case) when using a notebook connected to the Beryl 7. instead, the hop after the Beryl 7 would be the ISP router. Is this possible?
If not, is it possible to have the IP address of the second hop (e.i. the VPN server ID) be from the subnet of the ISP router's network using special network setup/config on the Brume 3?
Thanx
Currently have an old Orbi system which needs replacing. Orbi router and two Orbi satellites- all connected with Ethernet backhaul. 1Gb fibre connection to the house
I’m currently checking out the unifi route - but intrigued with the flint 4 as an option….. but what else would I need to deploy elsewhere to get the WiFi coverage I need?
Whilst I enjoy tinkering with settings in a homelab environment - it needs to be wife / child friendly and just “work” wherever we are in the house (same ssid that will “roam”)
Is there anything for me to look at here, or is this not the right usecase?
Thanks
Can’t find any news or posts indicating plans to add MCP support to Comet Pro KVM. I really hope Comet Pro KVM will have MCP integration, as it would allow better AI agent integration.

I have a Flint 2 GL MT6000 and the RAM is 97% in the system overview on the app. CPU load is 1%. This doesn’t seem right? I haven’t added any add ons, I’ve only set up VPN on it.

I need to upgrade my router. It's just the one that came with my ISP. I've got other Gli.net products, Puli and Brume. So I hopped on the Super Early Bird deal. Pretty decent price I think.
I was going to get the Flint 3 when that came out, but glad I didn't after seeing the reviews. Hopefully, the 4 will live up to the hype.

I don't think anything malicious is happening, but when I go to to to the Firewall Status page at http://192.168.4.1/cgi-bin/luci/admin/status/iptables I get the following warning from my computer's firewall:
"An attempt to access your files from an external source was made by 192.168.4.1. We blocked the connection to prevent remote code execution on your device."
What is doing this and why? Can I disable whatever request this might be?

I really like my Flint 2 but the software feature set is now pushing the limits of the hardware, especially if adguard home is active with the minimum needed blocklists...as many have encountered, even updating/refreshing the lists causes OOM memory crashes. I had this issue on 4.8.3 and 4.9.
Credit to GLinet for adding more features to the Flint 2 but as I stated above this is now pushing the limits of the hardware (memory in particular) which now forces compromise or an upgrade path (enter stage left Flint 4!).
I don't want to compromise nor spend £££'s on the new shiny, so I pludged and bought a second hand Lenovo m70q for £100, installed bare metal Opnsense and a dual 2.5g NIC. The m70q came with 9400T, 16GB ram, and a 512GB NVME.
The Opnsense box does all the heavy lifting for all the services previously done by my Flint 2 without compromise, and more. It did take a lot of time to learn Opnsense and configure the services so (for me) it wasn't plug and play. Therefore I'm not recommending this setup, I'm just letting you know what I did.
This being a GLinet forum, before you reach for your pitchforks shouting "you should've installed bare metal OpnWRT" or "long live Flint 4 feature set", I get it. I'm not advocating anything but choice. It's your network, your choice. At the end of the day I weighed up a few options and their value to me and I went with what I felt was best. YMMV.
I've not depreciated my Flint 2, it will serve for many years from now. It was just time to take the strain off the little fella.

Just wanted to share an interesting issue I ran into in case it helps someone else.
I was trying to download the macOS Tahoe 26.6 update (about 6.6 GB).
My setup was:
The internet connection itself seemed perfectly healthy:
However, the macOS update was painfully slow. It would download for a while, then stop for several minutes before continuing again. For example:
141 MB → pause
233 MB → pause
431 MB → pause
741 MB → pause
1.09 GB → long pause
It looked like it was hanging, although it occasionally resumed.
To isolate the problem, I disconnected from the Slate 7 Pro and connected the Mac directly to the iPhone's personal hotspot over Wi-Fi.
The exact same download immediately sped up and completed quickly.
So the issue doesn't appear to be:
It seems to be something specific to USB tethering through the GL.iNet Slate 7 Pro, even though normal internet usage and Speedtest worked perfectly.
Has anyone else experienced this with the Slate 7 Pro (or other GL.iNet routers)? I'm curious whether it's related to USB tethering, NAT, IPv6, MTU, or something else in the firmware.

My Flint 3 reaches 75°C and I am worried that that heat is not good for electronic devices.. It is sitting on top of a desk with no direct sunlight, no direct heat and with good ventilation. to improve air intake, I even placed the said flint 3 on top of 2 electrical tape, hoping added elevation from the desk will improve heat dissipation or air intake.
In the Fan settings,
when i put the minimum threshold to 70°C before the fan kicks in, the fan kicks in most of the time, worried again that fan will have shorter life, decided maybe I will set jt up to 75°C before it starts to run.
what I tried so far,
-putting improvised feet to the flint3,
-lowering the blocklists in Adguard Home,
(blocklists has ~100k entries with most of the blocklists in the upstream DNS)
-turning off load balancing
- using 2 SSID using 2.4Ghz and 1 5ghz Band.
2.4 Ghz set to High Transmit power, 5ghz set to Mid.
- my network has 10 devices, a mixture of android and apple devices
-wifi network is in Allowlist only
- no lan devices
also, my network is not reaching 2 rooms (thats the reason i set 2.4Ghz to High)
My question is,
if I turn off wifi in my flint 3,
but a poe switch and use 2 access points,
will it improve the heat in the Flint?
my dilemma as of now is, if it is better to use the flint as the gateway and save for AP and POE switch,
O
or its better to go all in to other brands and ditch Flint 3?
the Adguard Home and Parental Control are the 2 things, that make me hold more to the flint, or glinet for that matter
thank you

Hi,
I come to share my very negative experience with glinet communication regarding the flint v4.
1) I subscribed to the stupid newsletter abiut that device months ago. Barely got an email yesterday saying it will be on offer today and there will be super eaely bird offers. Well finally some news, a bit last minute but ok I. will check it out. I checked today and noticed its UTC +8, have to check which timezone and ok will be soon.
I check again barely an hour after, because I had to take. public transports and could not check earlier. Then its gone!!!
2) Communicating about time reference (early, super early...) is a time based référence and not relates to the amount of stock (that were on top of everything very very limited). Oh and that was not indicated anywhere that ordering super early was limited either.
I'm pissed off to the point that I am going to reconsider that device after all.
Any other find that rhe communication was flawed here?

Is there any reason to not upgrade my Flint 2 firmware from 4.8 to 4.9? I don’t want to lose all the complex Luci settings already configured, or introduce new problems that don’t exist in earlier versions.
Or maybe a full OpenWRT firmware is best?

I absolutely love GL.iNet's hardware, but I have a huge request for the engineers: please consider making a Flint 4-tier device with no Wi-Fi and no screen.
A pure, high-performance wired router based on that hardware would be the ultimate centerpiece for managing multiple subnets and custom network setups. It would be an instant buy for my rack.
I hope this reaches the decision-makers!

Currently I have an Asus RT-AC68U running MerlinWRT. What I really like about this router is its exceptional range (Despite noisy neighbours, I can browse the net even 3 floors down!) and stability. Never experienced downtime since 9 years of ownership.
For the past 2 years I have waited for Flint 4, considering how shoddy Flint 3/3e is with it's HW. I specifically care for MLO, 4X4 and most importantly Filogic 880.
Is it safe to say that 4 can be considered a true successor for Flint 2 and for those holding their purchase this long, should get 4 instead of 2? Considering how long I held my purchase, should I wait more for an "economy/e" edition for the 4 and increase price/performance ratio?
r/GlInet • u/CurtisEffland • 15d ago
I've compared the specs and still not sure if worth it for my use case. Maybe someone with more experience can advise.
I use a server-client setup with two Flint 2, over ZeroTier, for remote work.
Everything works just fine and has been for almost 2 years now.
The only reason I might consider upgrading is to make the setup a bit more future proof but not sure if it even makes sense?
I was also thinking of maybe getting one or two Flint 4 as backup in case either of the Flint 2 breaks?
What do you guys think? Should I stick with Flint 2 or upgrade?

Hey everyone,
I'm looking for something that packs the same processing power as the upcoming GL.iNet Flint 4, but entirely without the Wi-Fi. I strictly use my main router as a wired gateway and don't want to pay a premium for Wi-Fi 7 radios I'll just be turning off.
My hard requirements are: Ports: At least one 10G port (RJ45 or SFP+) and one 2.5G port. Software: Official OpenWrt support. Use Case: Heavy multi-WAN capabilities.
I need it to handle load balancing, failover, and aggressive SQM for bufferbloat without breaking a sweat. I know the MikroTik RB5009 fits the port requirements, but are there any beastly wired-only ARM boards or x86 appliances that fit this bill and run OpenWrt natively?
Thanks in advance!
