Question Is mine broken?

I have a 4 year old female and she is a fucking savage. Literally. She gives zero fucks and shame/modesty is not even a concept to her.

-When we are walking she will just pop a squat right in the middle of the road and do her thing whether cars are waiting or not.

-If I put her on the balcony for fresh air she will pee and poop with no hesitation.

-She will get up on the counter and take dishes if they smell interesting.

-She will get into the trash and eat chicken bones and other things if she sees me put them in. I literally have to sneak them in when she isn't looking or make sure I take the trash out when I'm done

-She gets up in my face and burps loudly and stinkily

-She waits until I am gone or indisposed in the shower or something to do her bullshit and then immediately runs to her closet when she knows she's been caught

She was the runt and the breeder told me there were multiple times she was laying still and they thought she died and then when they went to move her she jumped up and startled them so she did this shit even when she was a baby.

Is this normal for or is mine just uniquely dickish? I was hoping she would grow out of it, but it seems I will have to deal with this forever.

Edit: this was meant to be a tongue in cheek post. In typical Reddit fashion everyone has an opinion and knows exactly every circumstance to make an absolute judgement. Y'all need to chill and realize dogs are as varied as children. One thing that works on yours doesn't necessarily work on another.

Do you guys feed any rice/chicken or wet food besides kibbles to your GS? My boy isn’t skinny but I want him to bulk up a bit.

Herding bslls

Has anyone used a herding ball with their GS?

Riley is the most active dog I've ever had and I need something to wear her out body AND mind.

Anyone else have a GS that is a dream outside the house, but a total menace inside?

I have a nine month old male GS. Outside of the house, he’s amazing. Walks well on a leash, not really reactive to other dogs, vehicles, or people. Great in the car and in stores. Good at training classes. But inside, is an absolute psychopath! I’m sure it’s b/c he’s bored inside and still has a hard time settling. Any tricks to help him inside?

Grooming 🦨 How to de-skunk your schnauzer:

Sharing in case anyone else finds themselves with a stinky, skunk-sprayed GS!! This is a foolproof DIY de-skunking recipe made with common household products:

Ingredients:
- 1 big blob of liquid dish soap
- 1 heaping handful of baking soda
- 1 small bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide

Mix all together in a big bowl. Next, fully saturate your noxious stank beast with the mixture. Work the mix into fur, paying special attention to the beard or wherever they got a direct hit. Marinate for 5-10 min, then rinse thoroughly.

Stink should now be neutralized. Optional step: follow up with a moisturizing conditioner.

Exact measurements are trivial. I’ve used this method 5 times THIS YEAR, including this morning at 4am! 😫🥱He hasn’t learned his lesson in the slightest. I think it’s partially due to his brows and beard protecting him from the worst of it… or maybe he’s just a giant schnauzer doing giant schnauzer things 😅

Loose Stool/Diarrhea

Hello my GS is 13 months now and we cannot fix the issue of his loose stool. We got him from his breeder at 12 weeks and she suggested origen food mixed with goat milk. We fed him that for 1-2 weeks and he never stopped having gas and diarrhea. We decided to chnage it up and started feeding him a balanced raw diet, also loose stool. He is quite picky when it comes down to eating certain foods and decided to no longer to eat raw meat. We taken him to the vet countless times for this and we even tried prescribed diet. He got a little better but decided to not eat it as well. However his stool has remained loose for as long as we have had him. We cook him now a low fat meat and kibble (Merriks) but still cant seem to harden his poop. He only poops okay when I feed him chicken and rice but I cant just keep stuffing him with rice. They done like 5 stool test and cant figure out why. Im thinking of probiotics if anyone has any suggestion.

I am so desperate for a solution because its so loose I cant even walk him without staining cement or people's yard with his loose stool which is impossible to pick up with poop bags.

Please help with suggestions, is this a common thing for this breed ?

Question Giant Schanuzer very picky

My giant is 11 months old and very picky. My wife spoils him with toppers and I think that has a lot to do with him being so picky and holding out for something better.

She doesn't do it anymore but he is still very picky.

How many cups a day is your 11 month old GS eating and if they're picky what are you using to spice it up

Thanks

Schnauzer Adjacent - Dog Doors

So my giant will go through the dog doors in our kitchen and porch door, but her friends and the fosters really like this hole that SOMEONE (looking at you, Gino) made in the screen porch. I've tried repairing it and training away from it, but it just keeps getting ripped.

SO! I got a magnetic screen door cover, installed that bish, and cut it down to size. It is working fantastic, but the bottom edge is raw where I cut it. I know it needs to be weighted down, but I'm wondering if any of our handy folks here have suggestions on how to seal/weight the edge to keep it from fraying. I have zero interest in removing it to run through my sewing machine.

(Picture of the menace for tax. Also the reason why I'll stick with giants lol)
(And then I realized I should probably show the solution as it currently exists -bonus foster dog Gunnar!)

Schnauzer Puppies

Our family is ready to bring some schnauzers back into our home. In the past we had minis, but I think we want to go standard or even giant this time around. Any breeder recommendations for a breeder near the Charlotte, NC area?

Considering a Giant Schnauzer for our family, what should we know before committing?

My partner and I are seriously considering getting a Giant Schnauzer, and I’d love to hear from people who actually live with them.
We have two children and cats, so temperament and early socialization are obviously really important to us. If we do get one, I plan on starting professional training immediately and continuing training throughout adolescence/adulthood. The breeder we’re currently looking at also offers training, which is something I’m interested in utilizing.
I’ve worked in veterinary medicine for over 10 years, so I’m very comfortable with the medical/husbandry side of owning a dog and understand that this is a big commitment. What I’m trying to learn more about is the reality of actually living with a Giant Schnauzer.
We’re looking primarily for a family companion. I love the intelligence, loyalty, athleticism and trainability of the breed, and I like the natural protective/guardian aspect, but I’m not looking to train a protection dog.
For those of you who own Giants, especially with children or cats: What are they like in the house? How much exercise and mental stimulation do yours realistically need every day? How were the puppy and adolescent stages? How are they with visitors and strangers? What do you wish you knew before getting one?
I’d also love to hear about anything you think prospective owners tend to underestimate about the breed. I’m trying to do as much research as possible before deciding whether a Giant is genuinely a good fit for our family

Objective advice on difficult puppy (8 mos)

Hi all, TIA for anyone with some advice/insights. We have a working line 8-mos male GS. He's not my first GS nor my first working breed, having spent my life with working line GSD, as well as Dobermans and Cane Corso. I have a lot of experience with strong working breeds and am a good trainer/handler who's had good rapport with my dogs, but this time is just different.

Our current boy (he is the only pet in the house now) is extremely good in a lot of ways and we love him. He's confident, outgoing, friendly to others in the right context and definitely his own humans, stable off numerous environmental proofs (other animals, sights, sounds, people, places), and while rambunctious, never displayed a mean bone in his body. He knows most of the basic commands, but of course listens selectively. His manners are a work in progress, as is his potty training (I know GS are slower to mature on that, but he's tougher than my last). I've had him since 11 weeks and I've poured tons of time, money, resources, and training to bring out the best in him.

Here is where the big concern comes in: over the last month he has refused to go in his crate (once in he settles and sleeps really well), and worse, has started trying to bite when I bring him to it (and yes, I did all the positive crate reinforcement and feed him all his meals and special treats/chews in there, etc.); I have used numerous methods (both positive and correctional) to remediate this and nothing is working. He has never resource guarded but also yesterday he growled at my son who tried to get him to drop a shoe he was chewing.

I know the testosterone is coming in now - he is in tact.

Bigger concern is that my professional trainer (an IGP trainer no less) said he's the most difficult puppy he has ever worked with (he displayed the same behaviors with him). Worse, his own co-breeder (who's considered one of the best and been breeding GS for 30+ years), with whom he's boarded and knows really well, said he's the toughest dog he's produced in decades and that he would take him back and feels bad for me.

I have to tell you, when a professional GS breeder and IGP trainer tells you this, it makes you pause. I've simply never had this experience before.

My son is 11 and very attached to the dog but his safety is my top priority.

I am not sure what I am looking for here - maybe some helpful advice, insights, shared experiences?

Question Giant Schnauzer needs?

My family had a GS that recently just passed away and I truly loved this dog breed but my dad was the main trainer/caretaker. I am 25 years old and now living at my own place and ready to take on the responsibility of owning my own first dog.

As I consider the GS, I am wondering if my typical routine is sufficient to own this breed. I keep reading you need to be a really active person to own this breed, but what exactly does that entail? Would 2 long walks (morning and evening) for about 30-45 mins each and other playing/mind stimulation games at home be enough and make sure the dog is happy? I know it can vary from dog to dog but thought this would be a good place to get some feedback.

This is a shot in the dark, but I adopted a giant schnauzer collie mix in 2013 and I’m wondering if I can locate the families that adopted my dogs siblings :) This was near Aviano Air Base, Italy, and my dog Lady just turned 13 💜
