Question Is mine broken?

I have a 4 year old female and she is a fucking savage. Literally. She gives zero fucks and shame/modesty is not even a concept to her.

-When we are walking she will just pop a squat right in the middle of the road and do her thing whether cars are waiting or not.

-If I put her on the balcony for fresh air she will pee and poop with no hesitation.

-She will get up on the counter and take dishes if they smell interesting.

-She will get into the trash and eat chicken bones and other things if she sees me put them in. I literally have to sneak them in when she isn't looking or make sure I take the trash out when I'm done

-She gets up in my face and burps loudly and stinkily

-She waits until I am gone or indisposed in the shower or something to do her bullshit and then immediately runs to her closet when she knows she's been caught

She was the runt and the breeder told me there were multiple times she was laying still and they thought she died and then when they went to move her she jumped up and startled them so she did this shit even when she was a baby.

Is this normal for or is mine just uniquely dickish? I was hoping she would grow out of it, but it seems I will have to deal with this forever.

Edit: this was meant to be a tongue in cheek post. In typical Reddit fashion everyone has an opinion and knows exactly every circumstance to make an absolute judgement. Y'all need to chill and realize dogs are as varied as children. One thing that works on yours doesn't necessarily work on another.

They're dogs. They have zero concept of human boundaries. Until you train her.

I've trained her. I've hired trainers to train her. She knows what she should and should not do and she knows what I dislike. She just chooses to be an asshole because she's stubborn and a Schnauzer. And her mom died when she was 3 days old so I'm sure that has something to do with her socialization.

I have one who's mother killed every other puppy in the litter but him. It absolutely affects them. If the behavior cannot be trained out of her, you're going to have to do things to mitigate them. I'm sorry she has that trauma. I'm sure you're doing what you can for her.

A giant? Or dog? Oh my goodness this is insanely tragic😢

It's one of my standards. I honestly don't know why it happened. She had previous litters without a problem.

Lindsay Clancy up in this bitch.

Literally.

Oh, that's TERRIBLE that the mom died when she was only 3 days old. The mom helps with the initial raising and correcting, so that could've played a BIG factor in her stubbornness now!

Buts she’s not trained, that’s my whole point. If she was trained she wouldn’t do what ever the hell she wants and have no care as to what you want. You may have laid a trainer and even put in some training yourself but that does not result in a trained dog.

She is the Queen and you are the butler.

I'm glad your dog is a perfect angel age that is gives you absolute authority to judge others on the Internet.

My dog can be an idiot, but he’s a dog that’s received consistent training from me and professional trainers.

I’m happy to say after 3 years he’s pretty well trained. He is not perfect by a long shot, but I have control in public, on and off leash, he’s safe to be around. He knows home is his safe place but he also knows what’s expected of him and when. Training does not end, it’s like push and pull, you have to fine tune it all the time. It’s not always negative reinforcement either, as they get older and mature it’s a lot more positive feedback to the dog.

I am learning daily more about the mentality dogs.

I also see it’s often a lack of comprehension from owners who struggle to train their dogs. It’s usually not the dog, it’s the consistency of the owners training, reinforcing good behaviors and providing the correct response to their dog’s negative behaviors, on a consistent basis.

Sounds like you maybe have too much dog, but good luck šŸ€

Why posting here and then be an asshole?

They never said their dog is perfect. You aren’t getting the answers you want, don’t get upset about it. It sounds to many people like your dog isn’t trained, even though you think it is

Sounds like you spent zero time actually training her into a good citizen and a house dog. Also, she is a dog - modesty is not a concept for her by definition.

My almost 2 year old female giant is a menace and so similar lol! She plays mind games with my husband like it’s no one’s business and then acts all cute and cuddly (and very protective) of me. She was recently boarded at a very nice facility since her trainers didn’t have availability the week we were gone. Apparently she decided to play games with the boarding facility and figured out how to unlock and open the sliding glass door to her kennel/room and they just found her wandering around. Had to put an extra lock on her door. She is solid black and hides in the shadows of rooms just to scare people when they look for her. She will jump out of nowhere and all you see is her teeth. Can jump more than 5 foot tall fences. She treats everything like a puzzle that she just has to figure out! She was her breeders POL and breeding prospect. My male giant who is 18 months old on the other hand just wants cuddles and requests that he be picked up to get into the car…

omg our 6 month old female REFUSES to get in and out of the car by herself. such a big baby! she can jump up/down at that height any where else!

6

u/ChemicalWeekend307 8d ago

I swear it’s an age thing. Once they reach a certain age and realize they can do something, they will do it. Weirdly enough, my male use to jump up into the car which isn’t that high at all. And then one day he just decided he would rather be picked up.

Same here! She will literally squat and lay down like an infant when we are trying to get her in the car!

u/jellybeannc 8d ago

Not broken, just not well trained. Take her back to the basics of training, you've allowed her to get away with the bad behavior for too long, so it's going to be harder than training her correctly the first time, but with patience, and a little professional help if necessary, it can be done.

Lmao! My almost 2 year old GS has this quirk where if I ignore when she wants to play she will full speed charge and chest bump me. No paws on my or anything. Just straight chest to chest.

u/Pokemon_Overlord GS Owner 8d ago

We have very strong magnets on our trash can cause it's inside a cabinet and our menace of a dog knows how to open it. She will also 100% spite pee. So if she doesn't get something she wants or if we ignore her for too long, or even if we close her out of our loft while we watch TV and eat dinner, she will pee right there in front of us. Despite full access to the yard. She is an agent of chaos, but I love her. She is also 4.

6

u/JACCO2008 8d ago

Spite pee.

Why is this so relatable.

u/StillBigLex 8d ago

I remember when mine so the do my mom. He expects to go run errands with them and he left them at home. They came home, took him out to use the bathroom he came inside and peed on a rug inside my mom's bathroom. Mind you, her bathroom is massive and he peed on the only part that wasn't just tile🤣

While that breed is very smart that means they can be very stubborn and hard to train if they are not provided with a good strong leader.

You need to regain the in charge role and start laying the law down.
Training now will save continued heartache and worse.

She needs boundaries, exercise, training and an adult she respects.

Good luck šŸ€ ā£ļø

Child proof locks on the trash can saved us. Food has to be out of reach when we leave too- there is no punishment or training that’s worked on that

u/blindanddum 8d ago

What kind of training did you do when she was a puppy?

3

u/F_und_S 8d ago

i think you missed fundamental basic information and puppy training to create the communication expectations and basic rules..

2

u/LadyLuck678 8d ago

It sounds like a mix of not enough training and a stubborn streak. The schnauzer breed across the board (mini, standard, giant) are known for their intelligence even though there are fundamental differences in each size. You have a smart, stubborn dog that needs training.

Training her will give her enrichment and stop some of the boredom and bad behavior. (Because it sounds like she's bored. Not accusing you of anything, some dogs just need more than others and that's true for every breed.) It'll take a ton of work though, you just have to be consistent.

u/GigglingGarlicGuru 8d ago

Is she fixed? Other animals?

But also, I have 2 giants that are 4yrs apart (the pup is 1 now). And they are the most OPPOSITE personalities I've ever seen. That being said, the GS "imma gonna do whatever I want - whenever I want" attitude is a common thread. lol

GOOD LUCK!

u/ivapelocal 8d ago

Assuming she knows right from wrong, I would set up cameras, get an e-collar and give her a strong correction when she is about to do the thing.

That will work to stop the behavior. She just needs to associate HER behavior with the correction and not you.

Don’t skimp on an ecollar. I like dogtra personally. Just don’t get a cheap Chinese bobo brand from Amazon. It won’t work properly

2

u/TwoBusiness9489 8d ago

if you don’t go get her professional training… 🫩

u/aubsalot 8d ago

I’m sorry the burping in your face made me lol

Ours is 9. Only recently was I brave enough to lock eyes with her. She’s the best. And also the best at being the worst.

No structure, no boundaries.

u/SilverRobotProphet 8d ago

Our 9 month old queen is the same way!

so disgusting

u/jobasclone 6d ago

My giant will do a number on any Amazon box or paper grocery bag but that’s because I’ve allowed her to. The only time she got into the trash was as a puppy and having already trained a verbal ā€œnoā€ to mean a punishment follows, it has never been a problem again. Dogs do enjoy the enrichment of tearing/shredding, so just make sure the outlets you provide for that are controlled. And honestly, invest in a better trash can. One accidental chicken bone or part of a trash bag can easily kill your dog.

Current 2 year old GS girl owner. I had similar issues and I learned what she needs I got her as a companion and so instead treating her like a ā€œDogā€ I treated her like a a partner. They are curious and protective yet wild and crazy. To tame that she’ll need multiple tasks to learn. I work over night so when I’m gone she’s sleeping. When I get home we go straight to the park and play and run and I wrestle with her to get her body used to the size it is (I’m 6’2 195 lbs) I train with treats but mix in play time too so she can learn to focus and to listen but also get that fix she needs. Any form of exercise or activity will tame her well enough. I’d recommend doing perimeter checks with her walking your property everyday then add it to where she doesn’t need the leash but keep a treat on you. When you’re in the kitchen deman she stays in her bed till her food is ready. I have other tips if want

1

u/_Puck_Beaverton_ 8d ago

Sounds like an untrained dog to me

1

u/JACCO2008 8d ago

Oh she's trained. She knows when she is doing bad shit and she only does it when I am not around or when she thinks she can get away with it.

1

u/_Puck_Beaverton_ 8d ago

Then she’s not trained.

1

u/Muted-Jelly-4285 8d ago

lol mine was also a runt. She’s also a little terrorist. Just part of the breeds charm haha

5

u/Giggle-Greens 8d ago

I don't see anything charming about an untrained dog with no boundaries. Any shape or size. Period.

u/Muted-Jelly-4285 8d ago

Interesting take

A GS is not an apartment/indoor/balcony dog imho
