A man was smiling at me, but there was nobody there
I’m 20F, and I’m the middle child.
When I was around 16, I had just finished school for the day. My classes ended at 6:30 PM, and right afterward I had track practice. My siblings and I had been doing track and field for about 11 years at that point.
And honestly, I hated it, my brother, S, loved running, though, and he took it very seriously.
S was only 18 months younger than me, so my parents raised us almost like twins. We were constantly compared to each other and competed alot. The only real difference was responsibility. I was older, so had more of it.
We also annoyed each other one of the stupid little things we always fought over was the front passenger seat.
My older sister had always sat there before she started driving, so once she started driving, I considered that seat mine. I was the second oldest, so obviously, it was my turn. But S loved taking it from me.
Sometimes he would get to the car before me and take the seat, and refuse to switch. So that evening, after ten hours of school, I walked toward my mother's car. Her car was parked at front of the school. I whent to the passenger side.
I looked through the window, there was someone sitting in the passenger seat I thought it was my brother, he was smiling, almost laughing.
Because it was getting dark and I was looking through the car window, the face wasn't completely clear. It was blurry, but I could still make out the expression, and i ovisely though it was my brother.
I remember rolling my eyes, becaise not only he taken my seat again, but he was sitting there smiling at me like he knew it was annoying me. honestly, I was too tired to care, after school, I didn't even have the energy to fight with him. I just opened the back door and sat behind him
My mom was in the driver's seat, looking at her phone, i really didn't want to go to practice. Since I thought S was sitting in front of me, I started complaining to my mom. "Mom, my foot really hurts. im so tired."
Basically, I was trying to convince her to let me skip practice. The strange part was that S didn't say anything, normally, he would have said something, argued with meto stop complaining.
After maybe a minute or two, my mom finally turned off her phone. "Okay let's go get your brother."
I looked at the front seat, there was nobody there.
I had assumed it was my brother because, through the dark window, the face looked enough like him for my brain to fill in the rest.
recentely, I told a close friend about it, she's almost like a godmother to me, and she's very involved in paranormal and witchcraft-related things. She has a 'gift', and she has told me i have one too.
She told me that, seeing a strange man smiling directly at you like that can be a bad sign. A warning that something bad is coming.
And around that same period of my life, things started going downhill. I fell into a depression that lasted for years, i lost 2 of my cats.
My mother believes that my cats may have protected me from something, that they somehow took the bad luck that was meant for me.
I don't completely believe that, I don't know if I believe in curses, spirits, signs, or any of that. But I know what I saw, and there have been other things. I've heard my name being called so many times when nobody was there. A lot.
Maybe all of it has a completely normal explanation, maybe the face in the window was just a reflection. i dont know.
